I've always wanted to check this out. Glad we made the stop. There's about 5 different buildings. One building plays a movie on a loop. There's one that's furnished like it was back when it was used. Then there's a couple with historical artifacts. It's very cool. The mannequins are so life like. All the shipwreck artifacts are interesting. You can spend hours looking and reading. Definitely an enjoyable experience.

Its a beautiful spot. Hauntingly so. If you listen carefully on the beach, every lost soul in the big lake sings a familiar song....The museum is exceptional and highly recomended, out buildings are period authentic, and very interesting. Parking lot improvements, very much an actual improvement but h/c spots are minimal.....Do yourself a favor, pack a lunch and make the trip!

We were impressed by the quality of the exhibits and knowledge of the guides. Nice deck where you can view Lake Superior, walk along the beach. Very well stocked gift shop. No restaurant, but the gift shop sells snack items and has vending machines. Be sure to view the film first. The parking lot is being refurbished -- no RV/trailer parking for now.

Loads of information and stuff to see, and I think the gift shop is shockingly well priced! I was raised in Florida so Im used to the cheapest things being pens for 10$ but this place had pins and magnets (~3 - 6$), pens, ornaments, sweatshirts and hoodies (25 to 40$), shirts, keychains, rocks, you name it!! I also believe all proceeds go to fund the museum and conservation so its to a good cause.Loved the history and the beautiful architecture of the lighthouse. The little movie was definitely worth it, and my mom shed a few tears. I also loved the beach access and how close this was to the state park falls (about 25 minutes scenic drive)

5 of the buildings are open for observation and being taken care of extremely well. You are still unable to climb the lighthouse due to Coast Guard rules (post-covid) and staffing. It was better explained by the staff. The short documentary is worth the watch. Drones are not allowed without very special permission which you must have documentation of. The staff can't just give permission. (There was a well handled incident while there.)

This museum was a great stop along our trip in the U.P.. The staff were all so friendly. The exhibits, especially the recovered artifacts and Edmund Fitzgerald memorial were very neat. I really enjoyed the life-life displays.

This is an interesting drive 😬on a long narrow winding bumpy road, seemingly to nowhere 😯.More than once you will ask yourself, where are you going? Or why anyone would ever go here.🤷🏻♂️ But alas your questions will be answered when you arrive at the dead end. Actually there's a circle at the end that heads you back down the same bumpy winding road when you leave.Note to those of you with RVs or towing trailers, especially those with 5er's, or towing a car - DON'T. This is not a road well traveled by RVs, nor is there any place to put it when you get to the end of the Earth . Be advised the only gas station for miles will be the one in Paradise.Okay so arriving at the cute little Coast Guard station village, You make your way to the gift shop where you buy your ticket. The gift shop is rather small and crowded ay housed in one of the original buildings. All of the buildings have been remarkably restored (more about that later). Your tour starts in the building next to the gift shop where you will see a short movie about the Edmund Fitzgerald. You will learn the story behind the bell which is in the large museum building. This building is magnificent inside and laid out in chronological order about the shipwrecks, remember that's why you're there 😉Plan to be there before noon. After about 1:00 p.m. it just gets entirely too crowded. These buildings do not have enough space in them to hold the number of people who were there when I left 2 hours later. Cars were parked on the side of the road for quite a distance. And there really isn't any room on the side of the road. This is fascinating history not only in the lighthouse building but in the Coast guard building. I'm amazed at how many people were rescued trying to round this point for a Whitefish Bay. It really puts into perspective how important this passage was and still is, for freighters. There is someone in each building to answer your questions, and I had several.🤫 This method of using a small canon to shoot a rescue line a few hundred yards offshore to a stricken ship is mind-boggling 😳The lighthouse building is quite extravagant for its day. The woodwork is remarkable. And there's a story behind it so please ask the person in the building. It was very upper class living for the day. And one of the most extravagant lighthouse buildings I've ever seen 😱 Oh and the mannequins are incredibly detailed and life-like. I overheard more than one person saying they mistakingly asked the mannequin a question 🤭There are three boardwalk trails here. Each takes you to a totally different terrain. One takes you to the beach. One takes you to the dunes. And one takes you to an area that looks like it is often flooded. The gift shop is cute and there's plenty of things to look at. Hopefully you won't have a young couple decide to bring their double baby stroller inside, instead of parking it outside and carrying the babies in 🤷🏻♂️🤦♂️. There's barely enough room in this store to walk between the clothing racks let alone try and maneuver a baby bus...The beach is nice to walk on and wade out and look through stones for those special rocks👀. Wear a bathing suit and bring water shoes if you have them.Bring a beach 🏖️ chair.

This has always been on my list of places to visit, and I finally was able to make it. Growing up in Michigan, you hear a lot about the Edmund Fitzgerald, so seeing the bell that was taken from the wreck was fascinating. There are several other shipwrecks to learn about along with original buildings, including the lighthouse. There are a few videos that show exploration of wrecks as well. The docents are knowledgeable, especially on the lighthouse tour.

Cool spot to spend the day, everything but the beach is in doors.$15 each adult and $11 each teen age 5 and younger is free. If you have a family of 4 or more, the max, they charge is $50.It is a little pricey, and the mosquitoes are bad outside. But all in all, it's a neat place to go see.

I really enjoyed the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, and the Movie.Unfortunately do to circumstances beyond my control was not able to enjoy the beach, dunes and surrounding areas.Administration was a little high for what you got but unstoppable. But I would not put it at the top of my "Must Go Locations" list.

A great place to spend a few hours. Very informative and lots of interesting exhibits. Be sure you take the time to watch the documentary they show. It provides a lot of additional information. Also be sure you walk through all of the buildings. Docents are on hand to answer any questions you may have. We visited on a Sunday at the end of July, and it was VERY crowded, so I would recommend a weekday visit if you can.

Great place and tour the old coast guard post and lighthouse. Great shipwreck museum. The Edmond Figerald sank offshore from this place and in the museum they salvaged the ship bell and is one of the center pieces of the museum. When they took this bell they replaced it with a new bell at the bottom with all those whondied that day. With Gordon Light passing away this year and I was a fan it had some eery significance. Well worth driving up to Whitefish Point.

Awesome place to go. Staff were okay. If you're in the area it's definitely worth to go to. I would have to say that the light house was my favorite. They have beautiful views of the lake. And a really cool nature trail out to the lake. Cool gift shop, and the entire place was all dog friendly.

This museum is not a big one. You can probably go through everything in an hour. However it is very informative and the staff are helpful and knowledgeable. If you are interested in Great Lakes and ships it will definitely worth your time.
