The shelter is clean and the animals are clearly well taken care of. I’ve worked in animal welfare before and I’ve definitely seen some shelters I wouldn’t recommend, but I would absolutely recommend GHHS. In addition to the clean environment and wonderful animals in need of a home, the employees are friendly and helpful!We went to look for an older kitten who would be cuddly but also a play buddy to our 8 month old kitten. We were on our way out of the shelter when we noticed the front room with free roaming cats and decided to stop and check them out. “Provolone” was the first kitten I saw when I walked in, and I stopped to let her sniff my hand and to pet her. She instantly started purring. We interacted with some more cats but “Provolone” followed me, licking my shoes, so I picked her up and she instantly flopped into my arms as if she was home! Every time I tried to set her down, she would cling to me. We decided to follow the rule of “your cat chooses you,” and we adopted her.The shelter staff were surprised she was allowing herself to be held because they said she had been so timid, and my friend found a post on the GHHS FB page from Feb 4th (my birthday!) saying how shy “Provolone” is and how she doesn’t like to be held. Shelters can be an overwhelming environment and it can be hard to see an animal’s true personality. I just wanted to share that not only is GHHS a wonderful shelter, but that “Provolone” (now Siofra) is one of the cuddliest cats I’ve ever known. She wants to always be in our arms or on our lap or even laying on our back! She is the sweetest cat and settling in SO well. Introductions to our resident cats and dogs are ongoing but so far progressing well!Thank you for allowing us such a wonderful addition to our family.

Probably the worst staff anywhere. My grandpa adpoted a black lab the other day, was told he can pick it up in 2 weeks, and they gave it away when he went to check on the dog at the shelter. Gave it to another family when they told my grandfather to wait. Awful place to go. Employees have a 3rd grade education

I took my kids there to volunteer. The employees there are wonderful. You know their jobs are not easy and they still care so much for each animal. You can tell how much the animals love them. Joni also is very cautious with what animals she takes in to make sure she keeps the animals, staff, and adopters safe.

Well organized, the animals were clean and well taken care of, and the prices for adoption were the lowest I have seen. The staff was very nice and the process was easy.

My husband and I went there a couple days ago We looked at a couple dogs decided on Dobby.Doddy is the most loving adorable little puppy and he gets along great with mighty dog sapphire and he loves all of us including my Five kids he's Our fury little shadow baby and we all love him so much. ❤️We are all so glad we came to you for our baby.Thank you so much ❤️💖

This is a very clean, organized shelter. And the staff are extremely friendly, smart people who truly care about the well-being of the animals and are very accommodating to potential adopters as well as very thorough in finding the best home for each animal. And the remodel is incredible! The facility looks great, and is very well designed.

I adopted my senior Dachshund from here a little over two years ago and it was one of the best decisions I've made. Very helpful staff and they seem to really love and care for the shelter animals. If I ever do decide to adopt again in the future, they will definitely be on my list of shelters to visit.

Absolutely horrible service! The lady on the phone who sits at the front desk saw my adoption paper and called Me crazy! Called the humane society in Indiana and they looked my paper over and called this place retarded and that the front desk lady is the worst receptionist he's ever heard of. I'm done with this place also the way they treat their cats is just plane aweful. They lock off the kittens in large glass cases in the front for months. They arnt allowed out until they are adopted which makes the cats crazy and hurts them so much that they only want to be alone

We adopted our family dog from here. A red heeler boxer mix. He was just a puppy when we got him. He was there with his 2 sisters. I would love to try and find his sisters and reunite them for a puppy play date. Love this place.

I just want to say to anyone who read my previous post. Is that i had it wrong they are really trying to restore this shelter to good and honorable standards. They are rehabbing kennels and it is hard for them right now. So i seen firsthand that they are working very hard to do everything they can to help with stray animals. I have to admit i lied to Jill and i apologize for doing so. I should not of posted my previous post. When I able to i will donate anything i can to help the cause and I ask others to do so also. Its the least i can do. I hurt people with my previous post and i am truly sorry for doing so and my actions.

I feel bad for the strays that cant be dropped off because $50.00 is a lot to have to pay to drop off an animal. Most people around here cant afford to do that so the animals suffer.

The people here are absolutely amazing. They take such good care of theese animals. We have adopted a cat and dog from here.
