No closet to hang clothes. Desperate need of new mattress and bedding, but no bed bugs. Walls in need of repair. To pay high prices the rooms should be in much better condition.It was nice to be about two blocks away from the lake. There is a small cafe that backs up to the small parking lot. Food was ok there.Safety: Felt safe in this neighborhood.Walkability: Short walk to a restaurant and other shops. Several blocks from the lake but it's through a neighborhood with sidewalks.

We took a trip to the UP and stayed at the Griswold motel for 2 nights before continuing north to Copper Harbor. The front desk was very nice and accommodating and helped us change the reservation to reflect my name and payment method (since my brother had made the original reservation). They provided recommendations for food and things to do in town and the general area. The rooms were small and I didn’t have a good spot to put my suitcase so I had to move some stuff around to make room. But I loved that there was a door to the adjoining room so my son and his cousins could come and go to play without being outside alone. My favorite part was the little sitting area with a fire table in the corner of the parking lot. This made the whole stay for me. My family and I were able to sit outside around a fire, have some beers and chat without being confined to the motel room. There are lights strung over the parking lot too, which was a great touch and added to the ambiance. It was nothing fancy, just some plastic chairs and a fire table, but the overall feel being around the fire and having the lights was such a neat vibe. This was honestly such a cool thing that they made available to their guests. I don’t normally write reviews but this was really cool!

My boyfriend and I stayed for 3 nights because we wanted to visit the Porcupine Mountains. The owner was very nice and accommodating, even had a bonfire going almost every night. Rooms were nice and had the “up north” feel to it. Perfect location for what we wanted to do. Also an added plus because it was within walking distance to the downtown restaurants, bars, and the beach. Would definitely stay here again!

East to find place with a cozy atmosphere as you arrive. Parking in front of your room is limited but there is plenty of space on the street/around the corner to the left. (Camper/trailer parking on street suggested). Service was top notch even though everyone was suffering from the heat that day! Rooms were pretty decent with the recent overhaul and had plenty of room for our dogs/gear. Short walking distance to all the local touristy and eatery places too. 100% would comeback again.Nearby activities: Close to the public beach and touristy/local eatery places in town.

Another wonderful stay at the well-maintained and conveniently located Griwsold's Lodge. The place was clean, price was fair and it's just a short walk from dining, and two fascinating museums. The "unofficial" museum - Stubb's - is an important stop in Ontonogan. Griswold's is highly recommended.Nearby activities: Syl's restaurant and bakery is awesome! Roxy's bar is a great place for dinner and a drink and, as for Stubb's, you really need to see it with your own eyes.

My husband and I + plus our fur baby loves staying here. Their rooms (hotel & airbnb) are spacious and clean, and the owner's dad, Daryl is very friendly and accommodating. We cannot wait to come back here in the fall. Thank you again, Griswold for the hospitality. We will see you guys soon.Rooms: Very clean & spacious.Nearby activities: Not very far from the Porcupine Mountain State Park, Old Victoria and other places to check out.Food & drinks: Just a walking distance from coffee shops, souvenir stores, restaurants and bars.Noteworthy details: It's about 2 miles away or less from the hospital (ER & Convenient Care), pharmacy and grocery stores.

Booked a last minute room here for a night over memorial day weekend and it was great! Super cute place right in town and close to bars/restaurants. Only a few blocks from lake superior - highly recommend catching a sunset at the public driftwood beach. The owners were extremally friendly and the star of the show, Griswold, was a super greeter! Rooms were very clean and comfortable! Give this place your support you won't be disappointed!

My husband and I stayed here with our two dogs. Love that they’re dog friendly! Their hospitality is wonderful. They have recommendations for you. If they don’t know the answer about something in the area, they’ll help figure it out. Loved how friendly they were about everything. That feels hard to find lately. They’re doing great with this place so far! I cannot wait to come back and see how far they’ve come…also selfishly scared they’re going to become pretty popular hahaha. Hoping next time we’ll get to meet Griswold!Room/hospitality: We stayed in one of the queen rooms that isn’t updated yet. It was clean. The bed was comfortable. Small room and a little dark, but for not being updated yet, I was satisfied…I mostly care about the bed being comfortable and cleanliness because I’m just there to sleep. Air conditioner and cable were nice to have. Wish we booked sooner and got a king simply because that’s what we’re used to. That said, they book up! Reserve something if you want it. Every night we were there someone came last minute hoping to get a room. Their hospitality was on point though, they still helped those people find vacancy nearby! The father of the owners was helping out while we stayed and he was excellent! Griswold’s currently has a fire pit next to the shed that we sat around at night and had good conversations with him and a couple other locals. It was a relaxing fun way to end the day. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming.Restaurants: We only tried Syl’s once. It’s on the same block so it was easy to order, walk to, and take back. It was good/convenient. If you’re curious about other places, don’t hesitate to ask them about recommendations. Griswold’s is more than willing to help. I think they mentioned a place we could take the dogs..? But our dogs are a little inexperienced for that.Things to do/dog related: We took the dogs to Porcupine Mountains for a couple hikes, which is about 15-20 minutes away. Bond Falls is a little bit of a drive, maybe 45 minutes, but beautiful (and dog friendly). There’s also a nice public beach walking distance from Griswold’s; dogs got to swim and play. I loved that there was so much for the dogs to do with us and that the owners of Griswold’s are truly dog friendly! They even tore up some pavement to make a grassy potty place for them, plus there’s a small empty lot behind them that you can walk them around on if they need a bigger area to “decide” where to go haha.Thank you for the wonderful hospitality and a great stay with our pups. What can I say but to say the truth. We thought we were getting a great room because of the huge amount of $$ for the room. We had a small room with two very old well used beds. I slept terribly. The whole room was old and dumpy. It all matches at least. Mold in the bathroom tub under the caulking which was an inch wide. Bath fan so noisy I hated to turn on the light. No hot water first morning. No coffee pot or anything you expect in any room. Look before you stay here is all I can say. Never going back.

There was an issue with our reservation, but Carly was super accommodating and personally cleaned a whole different room for us. It was a much bigger space than the room we originally booked; it was super clean and had a full kitchen which was really convenient.Seems like all of the new owners are doing a great job updating both the physical space and the online presence and marketing. They created their own super-detailed "adventure guide" that came with our reservation email. It was really nice to get all this info sent to us in a pdf without even having to ask. We also love that the entire place is dog friendly. It's really inspiring to see younger people taking the initiative to make stuff better. We would definitely stay here again. We wish you guys the best!

I’m giving this hotel a 5 star review because of the great service, location, comfortable beds and the view of the future that the owners of the lodge are completing. They have updated much of the hotel with a vision for future updates for many of the rooms. Our room worked out great as a stepping stone to hiking in the Porkies and there were restaurants 2 minutes walk away. We were very close to the fabulous Lake Superior Beach. Our room was small and my husband and I used the second bed as a place for our luggage. It would have been great to have more space to have a meal in our room as we still are not eating out in restaurants. However, we would definitely stay here again

We had one of the remodeled rooms and it was nicely done. Beautiful bathroom. Our only complaints are the sliding barn door type bathroom door has a large gap so it lacks in privacy and noise control. It also needs to be adjusted so it stays closed... we had to wedge something in it to keep it from rolling open. The room could also use more places to hang things and put luggage. The young owners have a great attitude and are making this a nice place to stay. They are very accomodating. Hope they are successful. The area needs more motels like this. It is close to restaurants, bars and shopping. Convenient location.

What a lovely experience we had at the Lodge and so enjoyed getting to know Carly! She is so special and what they are doing here is very purposeful! The lodge is perfectly clean and set up with all that's needed for a quiet, comfortable stay. And it is just two blocks walking distance from one of the most massive sand beaches I've seen. Incredible walks in the morning and also the lodge is right downtown with walking distance to food, coffee and shops. I would love to return one day and intend to! Thank you Carly for your spirit and dedication to being such a gracious host!

Close to the Porcupine Mountains, Griswold's Lodge is located in quaint and beautiful Ontonagon.It was a wonderful stay, great customer service, easy check-in and out process, and a good price point.The rooms are somewhat small, but great for overnight stays. The room was super clean, no shortage of hot water, plenty of towels, and great room temperatures even in the winter.The room had a microwave, mini fridge, and a dresser. Wifi was decent for a room full of guys.Carly (or Ali? I can't recall) has put together a great deal of information in a welcome packet that is attached to your emailed reservation confirmation. You couldn't put your vacation into better hands.Thanks!Nearby activities: Snowmobiling, cross country skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, downhill skiing and snowboarding really close by.Walkability: There was plenty of activities around the lodge by just walking.Food & drinks: Plenty of restaurants are nearby.

We were so impressed with our stay. The host was very accommodating. It was clean and the room was super cute with a barn door bathroom. Although our vacation was cut short from an injury she was amazing with refunding one of our overnight stays so we could get home to the doctor. The town is adorable. She had great recommendations for places to eat and things to do. Highly recommend!

My boyfriend and I were on a motorcycle trip and stopped in to stay for a night, but ended up extending our stay because our motorcycle had some mechanical issues. We were impressed with the kind and caring staff, the owner was very accommodating with us and very understanding of our situation. and the rooms we stayed in were very clean. She made sure that we had a place to stay and even offered to drive us to the store if we needed anything. We were so very grateful to Carly and loved hanging out with Griswold. This is place has a great location that is within walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and the beach. I highly recommend this lodge and I will definitely be back to enjoy another stay!

Great location and beds were very comfortable! Owner was friendly and prompt to respond to a noise issue we had. A couple of drawbacks were that the 2 bedroom apartment is a little outdated, and the bathroom definitely needs some updating. The shower is VERY small. It worked for us, but if you are on the larger side I would not recommend this particular room, maybe one of the motel rooms might be a better fit. I would also recommend adding pot holders to the kitchen. We used the oven and had to use towels to remove the hot pan from the oven. Overall, we had a great stay!

Saw this place on TikTok and thought it looked amazing! Every spring break my boyfriend and I take our dog on a Vacay so this place looked perfect! The room was cozy and cute, everyone in town was so nice and it felt like we were in a storybook town. The hiking trails were a close drive and so beautiful! The local restaurants were good and even a bakery, a smoothie place and so much more! 10/10 would recommend and will be back again!

Love that it’s based on their dog and hopefully will continue to be pet friendly and affordable! We always appreciate a nice clean, comfortable and pet friendly place. Wish we could have stayed longer but we were passing through on the Lake Superior Circle tour. We had the pleasure of staying in one of their newly updated King rooms, we weren’t expecting much and were pleasantly surprised. Loved the theme as well.Travelers might want to make sure to grab a bag of ice from the gas station across the street. Other than that little detail, wonderful.
