This was a fantastic experience! While some ( including myself) may be apprehensive about staying in motels, this is definitely the exception. The woman who checked my family into our room was incredibly sweet and accommodating! The room was clean, comfortable, and cute. I also enjoyed the greenhouse! All in all it was a great experience and I highly recommend staying here if you are ever in Munising Michigan!

Scotty’s is a nice place to stay if you’re in town to see the pictures rocks National lakeshore. The location allows you to walk into town to enjoy the restaurants & breweries, and is a short drive from the boat tour launch points or hikes out to monuments. We stayed in a nostalgia room, comfortable and clean beds with plenty of wood paneling! 😉 Each room has a nice kettle for tea or coffee.The owners of Scotty’s is super friendly and available for questions. A new sauna was just installed which was perfect after our turned very rainy kayak trip! Stay at Scotty’s!

If I could give more stars I would ! Was struggling to find an open room while visiting Munising with the family and came by Scotty’s . Thank goodness we stopped . Kayla was so bubbly and got us right in. She also help work to successfully extend our stay. The rooms were so clean and the beds comfortable. Kayla took us for a tour to the green room and sauna, and fire pit. We truly felt like family. Will definitely be rebooking for our summer trips. Definitely worth the stop you won’t regret it.Rooms: Clean and comfyNearby activities: Walking distance to a cute downtown

My sister and I stopped in for a place to stay. We loved the vintage look of the motel. The gentleman at the desk was super friendly and offered us a chance to see the room prior to staying. Never had that before. We didn't see the room first as we trusted him. We stayed in a larger suite. What a beautifully renovated room! I love the colors, & theme . The rooms were warm and welcoming. We loved the space. Beds were comfortable. The only thing that I would add,, is a small table or a flat space in the room with the one bed, two chairs. Or a small bench to set my luggage on, just a suggestion. We give it a 5 star all around!

We love quirky things, and this retro motel did not disappoint! Everything was spotlessly clean, and Doug in the office was so helpful and friendly. The beds were super comfy, and we enjoyed relaxing with our morning coffee in the greenhouse.There are modern rooms as well if you're not thrilled about vintage, but we will definitely be back for another blast from the past. So fun!

I was looking forward to staying at Scotty’s Motel on the way back from Isle Royale, so I booked in advance and noted in the reservation that I would not have cell service in the days leading up to our stay, which would be a late check-in. I had a voicemail when I landed saying to call back within the hour to get checked in. I did not receive it in time and tried to call multiple times. We needed a place to stay. It was 8pm and the place I had booked and paid for gave me no information about how to check in after hours. We had to find another motel. After we checked in to another motel, showered, ate, and got settled, I received an email with a code. Unfortunately, it was too late. I called to request a refund and of course I could not get a hold of anyone again. I left a message and the charge is still showing up, so I will need to file a dispute. I wanted to enjoy Scotty’s Motel, but unfortunately the lack of communication on their part prevented that.Noteworthy details: Poor communication

Perfect location to stay to go to Eben Ice Caves and The Curtains off Sand Point Road. Quiet, clean, nice, most comfy beds I've slept in on rented property. This motel had everything we were looking for. Everything was perfect and we had everything we needed. The hot water could have been a little hotter for the shower but everything else perfect. We will be back and this will be the only place we stay in Munising from now on.

I’m giving Scotty’s a 5/5 because it’s exactly as it is promoted…unassuming rooms with hints of retro here and there! We stayed here the night before our through hike at Pictured Rocks and again when we came off the trail. The place is super clean with very comfortable beds. The renovated room we stayed in was small (we knew that when making the reservation) yet it was clean and had everything we needed…well, a mini hairdryer would’ve been a nice extra but nothing that ruined my stay! We had a great stay and will certainly be back. Thanks to Doug for taking great care of us and for all the nice renovations you’ve done! Kudos to you!

I moved over here from a different hotel and I’m totally comfortable leaving a five star review upon entering because for $6 more I went from “wtf” to “this is so cute!”. I would feel comfortable spending up to $200-250 during high season. (You have to remember places around here price their rooms based on demand and have to make a years worth of revenue in 3-5 months to even exist. Everywhere in northern Michigan is like this.)

The staff is really helpful and very friendly. This is an old property and the outside needs some work. Other than a couple of picnic tables and some outside chairs, there are no amenities. Our basic room was very small but they tried to make the most of the space. The bedroom and bathroom was clean. Nice tile in the bathroom. But a tight fit for 2 people. Okay to use as a base for sleeping and showering. The motel is close to all Munising attractions. Staff is great for making recommendations and brochures. We were happy to find a laundromat across the street.

While my husband and I were checking in, Tom met us and told us all about the history of the motel and the work they’ve done to not only renovate the place, but to preserve the original design and charm. Upon opening the door to Room #1, we were in a very pleasant time warp to the 1960’s, well, with the exception of the flat screen TV and air conditioning. The entire place oozed with nostalgia. It was clean, fresh and was detailed with classic furniture and decor that brought me back to a simpler time. I would recommend this place to anyone staying in Musining, especially if you have a soft spot for a small business.

My hiking friends and I stayed at Scotty’s on the front and back end of a Pictured Rocks backpacking trip in August of 2022. The location was perfect. Easy walking distance to everything. Tom and his crew were super friendly and made our stay even better. The rooms were comfortable and had everything we needed. The place has a great vibe and I would stay again!

October 2023- Stayed again at Scotty’s while in the UP. So this trip I stayed in room #12 in newer looking part of the motel…the “Ummmph” that makes this place special wasn’t there in the new room…not bad…just doesn’t fit the vibe of this otherwise super cool place.*Note right outside this part of the motel is another building close; the large gathering of people could be heard louder than I’d prefer in my room…sound comes directly through AC wall unit. Things quieted down by 1130ish and nothing crazy…just other people’s conversations in your room was my experience. I changed my overall rating from 5 to 4 stars.Original reviewFantastic place. Old school motel so not your homogenized chain place if that’s what one prefers.Great staff…today they shared homemade breads and pastries with wild blueberries…delish!Great location.Room has great updates…work in process overall. Bathroom hasn’t been updated in my room…but it’s summer in Munising…shower and go in the morning back at night…not sitting in the room all day!Comfy bed! Sauna. My husband and I really enjoyed our time at Scotty's. We wanted to have a small weekend getaway and Scotty's was the right price so we decided to give it a try. We stayed in the new smaller rooms, and it was the perfect size for the two of us. The room was clean, bathroom updated and very clean, and you could tell that it was well taken care of. It is in the perfect location, close to shops, food, etc, but not too close keeping it a quiet area. You can tell that the owners enjoy taking care of and fixing up the place. Also apricate that they charged very reasonably and they are very communicative if you need anything.Also want to note that it was a pleasant surprise they had a window A/C unit, it was not listed on the website and I was a little worried. They also have a sauna and a porch area to enjoy coffee in the morning. Deff a great place to stay if you are going to Munising!

The first thing I noticed arriving at Scotty's Motel was the retro neon and friendly patrons. The interior was clean and updated and the price point allowed me to spend more on activities in Munising. Doug, the office manager was helpful and kind when making recommendations for area attractions and restaurants. The brand new sauna was a pleasant surprise, and very relaxing after biking Grand Island. The greenhouse was great for playing cards and enjoying a morning coffee.

This place is a hidden gem! The owners are both extremely nice and go out of their way to accommodate you in your stay. They are in the process of renovating the motel and it is undoubtedly going to be amazing when done! Location is great, rooms are nice and clean, absolutely nothing but good things to say! Another bonus, Tanner the owners dog greets you everyday with a wagging tail! Thanks for the great stay we’ll be back next summer!

Everything about our stay at Scotty's was fantastic. Although we stayed in a vintage room, the only vintage thing about it was the decor (which was nothing but charming). It was clean and the everything was in great shape. The sauna had just got up and running while we were there -- and that was a great way to end our day. We'll be recommending Scotty's to anyone visiting the Munising area, but also to anyone just looking to get away for the weekend!

Where do I start! The owners are the kindest, warmest and most accommodating people! Helpful in every way, they are never too busy to answer a question or give suggestions . They go WAY out of their way for their guests! Beds are so comfy, hadn't slept that good for months! Rooms are clean and cozy (and I'm picky).Met many other guests. All were so friendly that we all ended up sitting at the picnictable in the evening chatting!The surroundings are stunning!Beaches are beautiful! Hiking amazing! Can't forget to say that Noel and Doug (staff) are heartwarming and also go out of their way to do anything for you! Noel greets you daily with a heartwarming smile!! No matter what you would need, Doug will jump right to it! Thank you Scotty's Motel! We will see you again!

Not for the traveler that needs it all, but definitely a great and cozy spot for those who aren't high maintenance. Great service and sweet little rooms. Rooms were definitely retro and outdated but the price we paid was unbeatable. Great location within walking distance to shops and food. Overall, a great gem if you're a weary traveler up north.

One of the cheaper motels in Munising! They are redoing this motel to keep the older 70's vibe yet update each room individually! The manager on site was very friendly and very helpful about the tourist attractions! We will definitely be coming back to stay here and would love to see what updates have been done since our 2021fall trip! Thank you Scotty's Motel for the accommodations!!

I’m writing this review to help people understand my impression of the 5 star and 1 star reviews here. Scottys is under new ownership and they are renovating the motel, but they’re not done. The unrenovated rooms are going to be ruff do to years of neglect. We stayed in one of the newly remodeled rooms and it was very nice and clean. The new owners are a joy to talk to and are taking great pride in this new adventure. I hope this helps everyone!

Room was a little dirty and dated but the beds were comfy and the sheets and towels were clean. The room had a fridge and microwave, and a lamp that I really want for my own place. For the low price it was better than I expected, had some character, and the staff was friendly. Fridge, microwave, pet friendly. Honestly, I prefer places without children underfoot, and this is probably not a great fit for helicopter parents, but it suited us fine and I didn't feel judged for sitting outside with a beer and cigarette.
