This campsite has the best location and convenience to trails and hiking because of its quick access to the main roads around there. We came up for a weekend of trailing and we were super glad to find this place because it allowed us more time to spend trailing and hiking.Has firepits, running water, picnic tables and plenty of shaded areas. The best part was our campground manager, Justin.Justin was at our service from the second we pulled in to make sure our time up here was spent to the fullest. He was our tour guide, area expert, secret beach and trail coordinator, trail rescuer, and incredibly friendly. He took the time to make sure we took the trails safely and even got us unstuck at one point with his own equipment. If it wasn’t for him we would have missed a lot. We’re definitely coming back up to revisit next year!

This campsite was amazing! The worker there was so kind and very helpful when you needed it. On top of that everything was organized well, very peaceful, quiet, beautiful forest, and really cool buildings for you to sleep in. But to mention they provide you with free firewood. Looking forward to going there next time! Best campsite ever!

Really cramped. There's a decent number of sites but that's only because we're all packed tightly. No privacy. No picnic tables on site like a lot of other sites either. It's right next to a decrepit looking industrial building that's apparently still in use. The trail in the campsite is narrow and rugged, you don't need an suv, but it would be preferable. There's lots of mosquitoes. Fortunately the campsites are all on woodchips and not rocky dirt one Porta potty and an out of place playset for little kids

Probably THE coolest place I’ve ever been to. If you’re looking for an interesting adventure and a unique place to stay, you gotta check this place out. A shipping container with one king sized bed and a bunk bed is plenty of space for 4-5 to sleep. All this is right next to an abandoned mine. The views are awesome here. I would recommend this place to any of the adventure junkies.

Unique campground. Make sure you check what they actually charge you though, while my receipt shows one night for $25, they actually charged me $53.50. I've emailed and called assuming it was a genuine mistake with no response so I have filed a dispute to get the difference refunded to my card.Edit* In response to the "lock fee." I did exactly as the sign said upon arrival to reserve a campsite for that night. Also, this review could have been prevented had they actually responded to my calls and emails. Only after the dispute was filed did they refund the $25 "lock fee."

DUMP OF A PLACE!!ABSOLUTELY the MOST Horrible experience at Ahmeek coppermine “camp” (I mean junkyard)The owner beat me up.Broke down doors.(twice)Smashed my belongings. And refused me access to my camper.I would avoid this place at ALL costs.I HAD TO CALL THE POLICE 7 times on the owner…This is very well documented.Absolutely horrible people, who ONLY care about themselves and care nothing about their customers or the locals!!AVOID!!!

Let me start with, we enjoy rustic camping. This IS a RUSTIC campground. We had a wooded lot booked for two nights, but we really had our pick of spots as there were maybe three other camping parties there. The wooded lots are exactly that. I wouldn't suggest any large tents for those as the small cleared space isn't very large. However there are larger lots available. This campground is situated on the ruins of the Ahmeek Copper Mine and evidence of that is everywhere. We joked that the small wooded lots were like we were thrown on some land and told to make due; somewhat how the miners would have been. The cabins are small steel trail cars made into a makeshift home, also similar to what would have needed to be done as a minor.I do recommend the experience.

I have no idea what the positive reviews about this place are, but they must be paid to say they’re review or delusional. This campground is horrible. It’s a “renovated” industrial mine from the looks of it, and it is trash central. There is broken glass EVERYWHERE, the tent sites are abysmal at best. They’re uneven, filled with massive stones or nothing but stones, and the pictures online are far from reality. My family was so excited to visit here but once we showed up.. it looked like something out of a horror movie. The bathrooms were absolutely disgusting.. my wife got a UTI after using their restroom. She said the toilet seat had a film of urine so she had to hover above the toilet to use the restroom. Dog friendly…? They say keep pets on a leash, meanwhile, the owners/employee walks around with their dog loose, i almost hit the thing entering the campground so watch out. One of the cabins had old wooden furniture and kids toys outside as if someone lived there for 10+ years, and there is trash all over the place. They do NOT maintain the campsites, and after viewing our site (P2) we thought maybe try a different one… 7 campsites filled with trash and glass later we decided maybe just stick with P2 and pray for the best. If you’re looking for a SAFE, CLEAN, and FUN campground.. avoid this place at all costs. Spend the same or a little more or less on a state park campground, or anywhere else really. You won’t be sorry. I know I sound like a Karen but I literally have never left a review on Google.. good or bad, in my entire life. This place was so horrid, I couldn’t help but warn others. Take it from a father of 2 kids, and an infected wife… do not stay here.Playground: There is no playground.Restrooms: Horrible, dirtyDog-friendliness: The owners do not leash their dog but you must keep yours on a leashPicnic area: Picnic area doesn’t exist

This was a great camp. Nice secluded tent spots of varying sizes to accommodate different gear. I didn’t even know they had little cute cabins me and my wife switched to for our last night. 2 wonderful beaches within 10 min drive. Great for agate or copper hunters.

We had a great weekend in Ahmeek at the Ahmeek Coppermine Camp. The cabins were fun! The host was super nice and kept us loaded with firewood. The campground was flat with even roads so it was easy for my mom to walk around. I really like that it’s close to several beaches. It’s rustic, no electricity, which is exactly what I wanted for the weekend. The tent sites looked great. The fire pits were really cool. There is a little museum on site. I can’t wait to go back again.

Just spent a week here. The owner and his crew made us feel so welcome and appreciated. My interests are in rock-hounding, camping and industrial history, so this was easily a great option. Great location with good cell phone signal. Looking forward to returning hopefully soon.

Is rustic. We hiked all day. Staff is so friendly! Yes this place had a past and it's a little rough on the edges. Despite that, this is a work in progress campground, so Karen's, keep on driving. No shower, pit toilets, and history. We had fun, as we can see what this place can become and hiked all over it! Will stay here again!!

My GF and I stayed here over memorial weekend. The campground really is beautiful and we enjoyed the aesthetic. However, the owners are the problem. We were the only ones to have a reservation for the weekend and all other campgrounds were booked. The first day the owners stopped by and told us they would be staying there that weekend as well. The first night they were blasting music until 2am and then even louder at 4:30am. They were also very intoxicated. The next night started out the same, but this time an argument broke out and one of the owners drunkenly got into the campground truck and began driving recklessly around the campground. Then he made a huge fire at another campsite and was screaming and swearing at the others. He got back into the truck and drove recklessly quite a few times. Very dangerous. This continued until around 5am. We will not be going back.

Really unique experience. I was scrambling to find a camping spot for the night and happened to run into the new property manager at the lake shore. He set me up with a spot as night fell and even gifted me some firewood and an axe. Took a walk around the property in the morning, and thought this wouldn’t be the last time I stayed here. The location is also great for UP activities and exploration. Would recommend and thank you again!

Gorgeous natural campground with so much history! I am a plant nerd and loved seeing all of the nature, delicious thimbleberries and raspberries all around our campsite as well as some wild peas! So cool. I much prefer this than perfectly manicured grass that puts out the beneficial insects. It was very quiet and a mix of sun and shade for the sites. We camped on p13 and the trees were perfectly spaced to hang up our hammocks. There is a lot to explore on site but it’s also close enough to other cities. Excited we stumbled upon it.

cool concept, however ... the tent sites are tiny and not flat; no toilet paper in the port o john; general vibe was creepy. It was a safe place to spend the night and we moved along the next morning.

Don’t book a site and expect to even get a response about cancellation request from the owners. I booked a site for July 14-16th in mid June and had a family get together come up so I requested a cancellation refund twice through their guest portal( June 13th and June 28th), left three voicemails and two emails with no response back. I gave plenty of notice to get a refund or at least partial one and not one response, very unprofessional. Im tired of calling and emailing so maybe this will get a response. It’s sad that no one will return any calls or emails and I’m out $65 due to their not caring or follow up on calls and emails. Very disappointing.

July 2022, 2 retired folks, 35' motorhome + Jeep, 7 nights, M10. Had a great time staying at this unique cg and touring the pennensula. Campground is right behind the old foundry. The foundry is being refurbished into a restaurant. The grounds are being turned into a resort of sorts. Lots going on.. Current camping conditions are primitive with no on the camp site facilities.. Water and restrooms are on the grounds. Some easy leveling required. Ungraded sites. Good roads. Very nice folks managing frequently patroled.... Have you ever camped at a real, old, old coppermine? I have! Loved it! Lots of ore rocks.

No. Just no. Cabins are the most poorly built containers I've ever seen. The windows don't fit, they have no screens, and no curtains. Half the container is a sliding glass door which also doesn't fit the hole cut nor does it have a curtain...zero privacy. They did try and fill in some of the gaps with spray foam... Which I always view as a sign of quality craftsmanship. The deck had a particleboard cover over a hole and there were no chairs, table, anything by the 'firepit'. As for the campground side... I would challenge anyone to find a parcel of land level enough to put a bbq grill on let alone a tent or camper. This could have been a real gem of a property but obviously the build was done with zero planning, mechanical skill, or business plan. It's sad to see such a rich piece of Keweenaw history completely ruined.

Woke up to a flat tire, owner came out and helped air up my tire enough so I could drive. He gave me instructions to a repair shop that was open on a Sunday over labor day weekend. Thanks for all your help! Would have taken me all day to find a shop that was open. Had it repaired within an hour and I was back on the trails by noon. Very grateful for your help and advice.

That will be twice, first time and last time, we stay there.Ahmeek Copper Mine Campground is not for most campers, glass and junk over most the camp site. Don’t worry, any business run this badly, is bound to fail.
