In the quant little town of Mattawan sits 1 of 2 sister restaurants. Bird dog, it's sister being dog in the bank in Plainwell, MI. Both are amazing. Let's talk bird dog though. I've eaten here at least 10-20 times and have yet to have a bad meal. Amazing flavors in everything. The drinks are top notch and the bourbon selection is decent as well. Service is prompt. It's cozy, a bit tight, but that's the charm of this place. Solid flavorful food in an inviting atmosphere.

Food is solid, the service is super friendly. And can not tell you enough about the firecracker cauliflower. The atmosphere is okay. Really tight on the indeed, but have a large outside seating section. Not a fan that there The no reservations, but I get it, they are always packed and for good reason. The food and service are spot on.Vegetarian options: Firecracker cauliflower is the star of the show here.

Small and a little loud at times, but worth it. The menu is smaller than most, but focused AND delicious. Pretty good drink menu. The carrot cake dessert was to die for.We’ll definitely be going back.

We had a delicious brunch today. Everything was perfect. I highly recommend the Dutch Baby with lemon curd and blueberry toppings. The French toast with Apples and crunchy almonds wasPerfectly cooked. Loved the chicken and waffles and the Boursin and potato chips omelet. I can’t wait to return.

Great place that deserves to be twice as large so more can experience the creative cuisine, efficient staff and modern, fresh ambiance. Glad to see they offer something interesting for vegetarians. I wish the menu offered a few more options along the lines of what they now have, but it's clearly sized correctly and efficiently for the cooking and seating space available.

Service and ambiance were top notch but food was a touch off tonight... Oyster mignonette had a lot going on (think it was the last of it), chopped salad was very heavy on dressing, herb fries came out late and the trout was highly fried (compared to what we expected) therefore eliminating the flavor of the fish. Overall, still a very cute place and definitely worth trying! Our first experience here was great so we will be back and average out the review. :)

My sister and I stopped by for brunch on a Sunday and the food was so amazing. Totally worth the wait time if you have flexibility. The staff was working hard to take care of all the diners, and the food was outstanding. I ordered the chilaquiles and they were incredible. Highly recommend this restaurant. Brunch today was fandamtastic!! We got there right at open to make sure we could get a table because this place fills up quick...and for good reason. The food was amazing. Had the firecracker cauliflower to start. WOW! Perfectly breaded and crispy, nice heat but not overpowering, and excellent flavor. My steak and eggs were perfection! Both steak and eggs were cooked exactly as I ordered. The mushrooms, arugula, potato combination complemented every thing perfectly. I do not recall what cheese was on the potatoes, but it was very mild with just the slightest tang. Oh my gosh! Long story short- it was all delicious! Finished off with their tasty carrot cake.We were helped by two incredible servers, Jaime and Tony. They were both courteous, helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable, and just provided a wonderful experience all around.We love this place! Be prepared for your meal to get a bit pricey, depending on what you order, but the food and experience are well worth it. Will definitely be back again.

We have been here several times but this is the first time we sat at the bar. This is a very intimate space so watching the kitchen staff interact with each other was pretty cool. I must say the kitchen is really clean and I was seriously impressed. Now onto the food, as with any other time we come here we start off with the firecracker cauliflower and it’s just simply amazing. We both ordered burgers that were cooked perfectly and were delicious.

We are not from Matawan, but from Royal Oak, and were driving through. A friend told me about Bird Dog and I am glad they did! A little gem. The food was complex and delicious, and had a great presentation. We sat at the bar to eat and glad we did! You get a front row seat to watching the food being made! Helped us decide what we wanted, although it all looked great! The staff was great as well, it was like a dance to make everything run smoothly and they execute it flawlessly.We will definitely stop back in the next time we are driving through!

Edit: brought my parents and my gosh, the salmon was exquisite! More pics just to entice others to patron this restaurant!!The lobster roll and hangar stick were just perfection, and the key lime pie??? I am willing to drive back just for more of that pie!!!What a gem of a restaurant, we will absolutely be back again!!!

I have been here many times, and each time I have loved what I've gotten. My boyfriend (updated: Fiance) and I always split whatever we are getting, and I have never had something that I didn't like. They also have a nice alcohol section. Would definitely recommend going here, but depending on when you go there might be a bit of a wait since there are limited tables. But definitely worth the waitOh also, they always have cute little flowers on the table which i think is a really nice touchParking: Parking close to building, but limited parking. I'd guess about 15ish parking spaces

One of the best places I’ve ever been to eat. The food is so good I almost don’t want to leave a good review just to keep people away from it. The servers are kind, quick, and consistent. Every time I’ve been it has been amazing, and the fire cracker cauliflower is a must try….. But if the stars align and you find yourself lucky enough to order their shrimp and grits, then you will experience something I still think of to bring me out of my darkest of moments.

We can't wait to come back and try everything else on the menuWheelchair accessibility: I think it might be difficult to manage this in their indoor space, especially during busy times, but they do have igloos right now (January) that might be more accommodating

First time here. LOVED it! Happened to show up during happy hour. There is a great food and drink menu for it. We tried the old fashioned and they were made perfectly!!! We had a spin on their popular chicken sandwich called Johnny goes to India. Yum!!!!! The fries were great too with seasoning on them. Also had the fried green tomatoes with burrata and it was fantastic!!! Small place but worth the wait. Can’t wait to go back! Would love to see a place like this in Lansing!

My friends had told me about this place. They said it has the best food around, to chef and all that. So when we went there and I saw the tiny little building and very casual vibe inside, well I was skeptical! However what followed was one of the very best meals I've ever had in my life! Unbelievable! I don't know if I'll ever be able to have another Nashville hot chicken sandwich anywhere else. I can't wait to come back again and try some other things off their menu. My recommendation would be to get there early for lunch - it's a small restaurant and seating is at a premium.

Great little secret in Matawan. Ambiance awesome in our own little igloo (heater inside). Appetizers were great. Old Fashioned good. Entrée execution a little lacking. Trout over done. Burger also over done. Flavor good and service excellent. We'd come back for appetizers and drinks in the igloo again!

Nice small venue with limited seating. First come first serve.4 tables for 42 tables for 210 seats at barWater was served at room temperature in a dirty looking decanter.We ordered the ribeye and wagyu steaks and both were perfectly cooked to our request. Amazing spices enhanced both steaks. The ribeye had some sort of gravy on it which I also tried on the wagyu and it was amazing. Both steaks served with a small arugula salad with fresh parmesan cheese grated on it.Nice cocktail menu to accompany your meal. Service was good and prompt. No dessert option was offered on 092121.Would’ve been a 5 star review if the water was chilled and served in a clean container.
