As someone who spends a lot of time on bicycles in his life outside of vacations, I was honestly impressed by this company.The 24 speed bikes we rented:Of average quality, from Trek.Had no suspension in their frames or forks. I feel this is appropriate, considering their purpose.Had appropriate tires for the riding they're intended for - a relatively smooth, flat tread for a low rolling resistance on paved surfaces.Had useful accessories, including phone mount, basket and fenders.Had disc brakes, a technology that is relatively new in the world of bicycles, and is definitely nice to have.Sales:The bikes that have reached an age of a couple of years are available for purchase at a reasonable price in the beginning of the season, accessories and a spare pair of tires included.Service:Rentals include a helmet and a lock, and even gloves if you didn't anticipate the chances of frostbite on your ride in the off-season.We bought one and rented one, and they were kind enough to loan us a helmet with the bike we bought, which they were not obligated to do.Staff:Sales staff are very helpful and friendly, mechanics are very knowledgeable about the bikes for sale.Rental prices:Very reasonable. We rode the island in approximately the average amount of time it takes to do so, and the cost was under $30 for 1 rental.Definitely worth it.

Had an enjoyable experience renting bikes from this company. They have quality bikes for rent and a fair price to match! We rented our bikes for somewhere around 3-4 hours and paid around $80 for the time. The bikes are easy going and allowing you to cruise around the island in no time. Plus, you can hop off your bike and enjoy the water anywhere around the island! Highly recommended adding a bike as part of your island experience!

We had a good time. My bike was loud in third gear but the rest worked and so did everyone in our group. It's tourist pricing but worth it for a fun day on the island.

Their bikes is not well maintained. They rented me a bike and I went back to show them the gear is bad and making noise. They shifted it to another gear and asked me not use it. I needed to change it in one point in time; and the minute I did, the chain got stuck. They claimed it $35.I paid for the bad time, broken bike and the repair that should’ve happened prior to the rental. They jumped like a gang. So many of them. Each supports his partner.

Was traveling with my son (6 years), I brought my bike and a bike trailer for him. I needed a hey key to tighten my back wheel. I asked for service in this place, although they had dozens , they said the insurance does not allow them to either help, rent, or provide any kind of support.Finally, the firefighters helped me!Hope the island offer more options and free competition, so this kind of business and people improve their behavior.

We rented our bikes around 10:30 to ride around the island. They had trikes available which is what we were looking for for our casual ride. They were quick to get us set up and gave us bottled water with our rentals. We returned them later in the afternoon and it was an easy process. Expect to spend some money here but it’s the best way to see the island highway!

Our experience was very good and the tricycle worked very well. The personnel was very helpful and even after they had closed in the evening they helped us with tools to install a trailer on one of our other bikes. We definitely recommend Mackinac Cycle to anybody who wants to explore the island on two or three wheels.

The bikes were good quality, came with baskets- and the seats were comfortable. They offered free water and helmets (although helmets aren’t required). They told us to return the bikes by 6:30 pm which we did but the guy seemed irritated with us because when we returned the bikes he said he called us a few times and that we were the last ones to return the bikes and he was waiting just for us. We road for a little less than 4 hours and paid $36 each.

If you want to end your amazing Island experience with a horrible human interaction then look no further!I was hurried into line, asked what I needed and then they ran my card and gave me a receipt, it said $98.They then say “we close at 8”Sounds great right? Convenient?Well throughout the day the bikes squeezed and squeezed, very old equipment with worn tires and shot brakes.Then I go to return them and I’m told it’s going to be a staggering $456…I asked one question on how that number came out and why my card was ran the first time and without missing a beat the counter worker called the manager, almost as if this was standard procedure.Melanie the manager comes out and does not address my issues which is of course the predatory business tactics of a bait and switch for a bike company on an island that doesn’t allow many other forms of transportation.She continues to tell me the hourly rates, which of course were never explained to me.I will say that she did make an attempt with a 15% discount, which I assume is also standard for this situation in their sleazy practices, which I won’t lie tho, did lighten the blow…And then she tries to gaslight me by saying “in over 20 years I’ve never had this happen, where someone was mislead or confused about the pricing structure.”Well I just read no less than 5 reviews here on Google that share my exact same experience.Bring your own bike, or walk further than this rental company, please for your own good.

Bike rentals were super easy for my family of four. We waiting maybe 15 minutes after ferry landed to go there as to not wait in line. We were in/out in about 5 minutes. The return was just as easy. Bikes were great and the ride around the island fantastic.

We rented five bikes for an hour since we were told it takes about an hour to do the entire island. Unfortunately when we first started one of the bike chains came off. After a 15 min delay we rode the bikes around the perimeter of the island and we stopped and visited some of the sights as we went around. So about 3 hours later we were done and a nice $210 bill came up. This was fine but be mindful if you are doing this it will take a few hours. Do not by into you can do this in a single hour for just $16 per bike for a single hour as promoted. If you plan on doing the bike ride correctly, plan for 3-4 hours of rentals

Do not rent from Mackinac Cycles. I had a horrible experience there with the woman who seemed to be the owner. Undoubtedly there are many other good choices, but Mackinac Cycles is not an honorable company. We rented 10 bikes, our bill was close to $700. We rented a chariot tricycle style so I could ride my 80 year old father on the back and it was their only one available, within the first mile, the hub was squeaking and rubbing and any good maintenance of this bike would have prevented this. We had to ride with this horribly noisy hub the whole way around the island, then in the last mile the tire flatted and my 80 year old dad had to walk into town. When we returned the 10 bikes, the owner got involved when we were asking for some sort of refund or accommodation. The only thing she said was why didn't you call us. I didn't call them 1. because they would not have had another cycle for us to help my dad, then we would have had to waste hours tracking down a new company and bike. 2. We had 8 teenagers with us, so having them wait while they came and go us would never have worked. Instead, she simply should have looked at us and said, I am so sorry this bike was not in good working condition let me refund your money. She did not, she gave us $25 off a $700 bill. Not the kind of business I want to do business with. There was quite a bit of attitude from the female owner/manager in fact, it was highly disappointing. BTW I am professional cyclist, so I know that what was going on with the bike could not have been fixed "roadside" and we would have lost a huge chunk of our day dealing if we had to call and wait. Pick a business that cares about their customer's experience.

rented a bike and while riding it, I attempted to exchange it because the chains were broken and lacked sufficient oiling. A staff member took the bike for a quick spin after adjusting the gears and insisted it was fine, refusing to provide a replacement. Later, upon returning the bike, I explained to them about the gear problem and its broken state. However, the staff, consisting of an old, unpleasant lady and a young man, accused me of breaking it and engaged in a heated argument, demanding payment. I've never been the type of person to crash, drive recklessly, or cause any damage to a bicycle. It broke on its own. In any case, there are several other bike rental establishments available, so I recommend choosing a different one with better reviews.

Tried to rent from two other places first because of their high Google ratings, but both were already out of adult bikes or the burley we needed. Mackinac Cycle had what we needed and was super fast and helpful! I'm not sure why their reviews aren't as good as the other places because they did a great job and the bikes were in great shape, including the tag-a-long and burley we got for our little kids and baby. Will go to them again in the future!

Purchase bikes at end of season last year after a great deal of time chatting with the owner and head mechanic. Brought the bike out in spring, rode a few miles and the main operating system of the bike wheel sheared off. I reached out several times leading up to our trip for assistance in locating a replacement part since they can not be located by my home town dealers and received no response. Stopped in person today and was shushed over to the repair shop up the road even after trying to explain the issue. The repair shop was lovely and tried to assist, but also can’t replace the part. We bought 2 bikes, spending a large sum of money and have received horrible customer service and a new lawn ornament (in less of course I want to spend several hundred dollars more.) extremely disappointed

My father rented a bike and while riding it, he tried to get a replacement bike because the chains were broken and weren't oiled enough. A staff member rid the bike for 10 seconds after changing a gear and claimed it was fine and would not let my father get a new bike. Later, my father returns the bike and explains to them that there is a problem with the gear and that it's broken, then the staff (an old mean lady and a young man) turn around and say that my father broke it and argues and insists that we have to pay. My father is never the type of person to crash or drive fast or damage a bicycle by any means. It broke on its own. Anyway, there's many other bike rental places, pick a different one with better reviews.

Bike rental on the island is a "get what you pay for" experience. These guys might be a dollar or two more per hour but their bikes are well-maintained and replaced often. The staff will put you on the best bike for your needs, they know what they're doing here.

Not ok to rent here , even though most of all rental company claims that it takes just 90 min to finish the island by bike is just a close call , will need at least 2 hour with small stops in between.some how we have been charged more than we expected. We took at 5:37 and returned at 7:45. We have been charged at 42 per bike

Very good experience, fast service, convenient location, staff friendly. Front end/basket on bike is a little heavy, so you have to get used to that very quickly because of the congestion of visitors. Adult bike worked for 11 year old daughter, but tried 2 helmets, and neither fit so she went without (most bikers without helmets anyway). Leisurely toured the perimeter over 2.5 hours, stopped for Arch Rock and other pictures. We'll definitely do this again.

We rented two bikes. One was fine. The trailer to tow children was in great shape.The other bike was squeeky and impossible to down shift. Chain fell off while trying to go into low gear. Tried to talk to staff but they didn't care, just seemed to restock it. I feel bad for the next undeserving customer who gets stuck with that bike.

Bad bad service when we return the bike. A staff worn black shirt and hat he was super mean during we returning the bike and process the payment. Not professional at all. I don’t know what’s wrong with him. If he wants tips he should work for that. Could it be that I tip him first that he will be nicer when he see that “pizza fund”?? Experience was good until returning bike. A staff work at register she was nice and a old guy was very helpful set up the tandem bike for us. I wish they have more professional workers like them. We traveling for happy and I believe everyone does. I didn’t feel comfortable when that black shirt guy being mean to us. I guess he just don’t like Asian people. Because I saw he was nice to the group that behind us.Negative behavior outweighs behavior. so a bad apple can spoil the whole barrel. but one or two good workers can’t " unspoil " it.

Staff got us on bikes quickly with the busy weekend rush. Bikes rode OK, but they have a ton of miles on them. Brakes made all kinds of noise. Took a while to get adjusted to the bike. Bring your own if you can.

This bike shop was very reasonable and offered guidance for getting to certain parts of the island. Their pricing is very fair compared to the other bike companies on the island. Multi speed bikes are what you will get, made traversing the island very easy.

Staff is rude. We asked for different kind of bike but the staff member told us that they donot have any and “he can’t magically make appear the bike .” And few minutes late after my protest they brought the bike we wanted. I would try other place.

Ditto to what the other happy customers said. I thought the hourly rate seemed reasonable. Fast service. Good bikes. Basket was awesome to have, smart. ( We asked a local/waitress which bike rental place to use, she said this one.) FYI round trip of island is easy biking. Trails though middle of island require muscles but most are paved.

My group of four “geriatrics” hadn’t ridden bikes in several years. As we tried to decide if we could still ride, and what kind of bike was safest, a gentleman who looked and sounded like an owner or GM asked us a few questions and made perfect suggestions as to which bikes suited each of us and asked staff members to take care with getting us on the road. Carl was a friendly professional who took a few minutes to coach us up and meet our needs. I would always rent a bike from Mackinac Cycle.

Very friendly and helpful staff. They fully explained the full price at the return of the bikes. Would be 5 stars if the price was more reasonable. But all bike rentals on the island are highway robbery.
