I've had awful experience with Lapeer county animal control. I communicated with them over the phone, an awfully mannered animal intake coordinator slacks there, zero manners. She hung up on me, so I called again, I talked to an officer, she was nice and well mannered, but she was encouraging and promoting euthanization of healthy dogs.

Too many positive things to say about this incredible team that works for LAPEER COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL!!!The compassion they show towards those in need, makes my heart ache, and brings tears to my eyes. They take care of all these amazing dogs, cats, rabbits etc like they were their personal pets. We all thank you for helping our animals and giving them the opportunity to find the perfect home. Bless you all 💙🐾

Adopted another baby (our first from here) and they are great to deal with. The process was seemless and Erica was such a pleasure to deal with. Our dog, now named Captain, was the perfect fit for our house and it shows just how hard they work to make sure the pet is a good fit for people.

A year ago they helped save our dog. He got into it with a cow on the loose on our property. We could not get them apart and they ended up being over a mile away from our house. The officers that helped my husbandeven climbed a tree so they could find him in the middle of a corn field. He needed emergency care and they went above and beyond to get my husband and our dog to to the vet. I’m forever grateful to them. The incident also happened around his birthday. We thought we were going to lose him but a year later he is healthy and happy and we got to celebrate his 3rd Birthday.

I am very sad to have to write a poor review of our animal shelter. I successfully adopted 2 kittens 2 years ago from the shelter. I neutered them and they have a loving home with our family. I tried to adopt again this year as we lost an elderly cat to an illness. I filled out an application July 2 and followed up with with 2 phone calls the following week. No one ever called me back. Hard to adopt a kitten when you can't get in to see them. I was advised that the kitten I selected to see was no longer available only today, when I called back for the 3rd time. I felt like I was a bother to the staff.

They were very professional. Facility was clean in the intake area but the public is not allowed back where the animals are. Within a few hours of dropping off the stray they fulfilled their promise to post it on the For the Love of Louis website.

Renewed dog licenses without any problems. While I was there I saw staff members playing ball with some of the dogs that were there in an outdoor run and it looked like everyone was having fun.

I was forced to take in several stray cats that I was taking care of because it got too overwhelming. Everyone I spoke to was so kind and understanding. They worked with me and treated the animals gently. Please consider adopting from this shelter!

I visited the dogs while paying for another license for my dog. They have music playing in there for the dogs and there is a big tub of donated toys and there were some treats that visitors could give the dogs. I gave them each a couple fresh toys and a couple treats. They loved the treats, of course, and gobbled them up. But, also of course, they really wanted O-U-T of those cages for good! There are cots for them to lay on now but they need to be able to lay anywhere they want in a home. On the floor where they please or in the sunshine like my dog likes or their own soft bed. When I left one dog really cried for me. It was heartbreaking. That's why I usually don't go in there. I want to take them all but are not allowed any more animals. They were very sweet and craving love and TLC. 💔❤🐶👏🙏

This would be a negative 1 if I could do it!! Why would you deliver someones complaint to the person they called in on!! We called about A peacock in a very small coup and with other birds. According to Michigan Law the animal should of been taken immediately!! They have to have a much larger place, but the person doing the neglecting left a nice message on Facebook "you thought you could get me didn't you! What the heck is that!! I have already watched this person kill 3 dogs, they were left at home to suffer because the husband would not take them to a Vet! Do not bother contacting them about neglect or cruelty, these people are only interested in a pension only, Not the poor defenseless animals you claim to care about!

Very rude and I didn’t even have to step foot in that facility. It was all done on Facebook on their community page. Never once was anything said negative or towards them. They just don’t take others opinions very well. I have been muted to all commenting, i can not like or even message them. All because of a person’s opinion. The person who runs their Facebook commented not once but twice before I could even get back to the thread it was deleted. No warning no nothing. Their opinion is the only one that matters. If you don’t agree your freedom of speech rights are taken and you are discriminating other people based on their opinion as a community we are to consider all sides not just one. They don’t see it that way. Narrow minded, uneducated, people I wish I would have snapped a screenshot the comment to show how there was nothing harsh, rude or against them period. Your just as low as the lady that drop them off this morning on 6/17/20. Your manager that runs the facility said that our opinions are completely different okay that’s cool but why must my opinion not be heard? Why do I not have the freedom of speech to speak? Not a community no. I just live here. I refuse to support all matters of this facility after this. I don’t appreciate my rights being taken from me as a person.Comment below. As I said in my review it was nothing negative. In fact if I recall correctly it was a logical statement that was agreeing with you. You just decided to work against and not with. Low community standards on your end. It was not about liking the end result it was about my right as a person being taken away because this is a community page. There was no negativity. You misunderstood which is typical through a text, email etc. Unfortunately for you I will not support your shelter or the people running it. Burning bridges seems to be something the people do here often. Get off your high horse and work together to have a much better result would be the reasoning answer plus the place may stay open if you can manage not to be so pig headed with the people.

me and my friends tried countless times to get a dog and they denied us every single time even tho they have said multiple times that they are overcrowded and need to find homes. it's just cuz we live in an apartment and they said their dogs aren't apartment dogs even tho that is a lie cuz other people have dogs around us and we even asked where they got them and a couple got them from animal control the prolly just hate people and want to deny us happiness

I don't like the new format in which you have to go thru now to adopt..I have adopted many animals from there.. mostly stopping in and just seeing an animal that needs a great home... now I don't because of the paperwork in involved now.. too a hassle I say

Called to see if they would come pick up a stray cat who had babies at my farm. I woman was rude and said, we don't pick up cats and we aren't taking cats in at this time. I asked if she knew who I could call. She stated that maybe I could call a cat rescue. I asked her if she had any contact information on any cat rescues. She spoke to me real slow and stated, "Well I can look one up on Google just like anyone else can do." Poor customer service.

They actually take car of the animals. It's a no kill shelter I was told, if true that's great. They have play time with the animals it's extremely cute watching staff outside throwing toys around with the pups. You can also volunteer. Staff seem sweet and extremely helpful.

We rescued our fur baby from here and will be rescuing another within a year. All these animals deserve homes. It pains me to see so many dogs and cats that were found as strays or surrendered. If I owned a farm or ranch with lots of land I'd be tempted to adopt them all. With any rescue it takes time and patience for most but they're all waiting to find homes. The happiness portrayed from the dogs when you see someone adopt them is priceless. We just saw a pittie today who was all wags and just happy to be out of a cage.

They lied to me saying they had the owner of a lost dog that was in my yard but when I showed up no one was there for him. They took him to the back while I went to get my license out of my car and when I asked where the owner was, they said the owner thought he was too tall so he wasn’t theirs. BUT NOBODY WAS THERE TO EVEN SEE HIM. The staff was very rude too.

Terrible experience with a dog cop working here. Was walking my 8 LB dog on a leash going down the hill to lake and was attacked by neighbors 2 100 LB dogs, literally pulled my dog out of one of dogs mouth, there have been problems with this woman's dogs in the past. I did call 911. Don't like to pull age card but I am 72. Only thing dog cop was interested in was if I had a dog license which I did not and told him so.I was hurt and trembling and heart rate and blood pressure werw off the charts. He was in my face yelling calling me a liar, laughing at me and blah, blah, blah, was trying to tell him that I had just found out that you need a license in rural areas out here and was waiting for my next ss check but was drowned out and never asked if I was ok. Ended up giving me a ticket for $160.00 which is my food allowance for close to a month, this guy looks like he's never missed a meal (sorry but that jab felt good). Don't understand why he could not have given me a warning as I was planning to do so anyways. I may have permanent damage to knee and shoulder, thankfully dog ok, but wow. If this is how people are treated what is going on with animals.

Compassion for animals?I found a kitten the other night covered in fleas, eyes swollen, and probably a upper respiratory infection. I dipped the little guy in a flea bath and bought some eye wipes just to help him out seeing how he could still open them I figured he would be okay until I took him to the shelter. I would have kept him but I am already nursing a older cat I had found the day before. Bringing him into the shelter the woman at the front desk has no compassion at all! Sent the security guy to take the baby from me and without saying a word handed me a paper to fill out. When I tried talking to her to ask her if he would be adopted out quickly seeing as he was just a baby she said nope, we will probably just put him down since he's sick. Then I couldn't get him back from her either. NOT EVERYBODY should be working with animals. If you're going to put an animal down at least show some compassion. Not happy I just sentenced a little kitten to death for trying to do the right thing.

Worst shelter I have walked into! Staff is rude and unprofessional, dogs are laying in their own feces and have no water, cat room is empty but they turn people away that want to bring cats in, and the place smells so bad you better hold your nose! Do NOT bring animals here! I would give 0 stars if there was the option

Lapeer County Animal Shelter is the typical taxpayer funded shelter. Not good. High Euthanasia rate. County employee job. Nobody likes the dogcatcher. However, until the general public steps up and spay/neuter their pets, be responsible and act like they cared - this and all shelters will always be full. The predominate breed in shelters are pit bulls and pit bull crosses. Strays or the family pit bull puppy grows out of cute and into the age of responsibility. They get abandoned or a quick trip to the shelter.Few shelters accept cats and those that do are full. Anyone who thinks a County run shelter will take in a sick kitten with an upper respiratory infection, treat it, restore its health and find it a home is mistaken. Treatment can cost hundreds of dollars. If you wanted to save the kittens life you should have kept it and took it to your vet.Pet overpopulation makes life cheap. Shelters have limited funding and manpower. They are municipalities and job qualifications don't necessarily include liking animals. The LCAS may not be ideal - but they can't miracle good homes for every pet, it's not their fault you didn't want your pet anymore, they didn't dump your dog on a back road or leave that sick kitten in your driveway. Your neighbors did.If employees have "attitude" it is partially from the general public who expects them to care more about their dumped or unwanted family pet than the animals owner ever did.Shelters reflect the surrounding community. Looks like the citizens of Lapeer should take a good look in the mirror

My boyfriend and I adopted our kitty Donatello AKA Donny a couple of weeks ago and he is the best cat I've ever owned. They take excellent care of the animals there and the people who work there are very nice and helpful! Best wishes to all of the other homeless animals at the shelter. Adopt a shelter animal and save lives :)

A women came to my house on a false complaint then called the police saying my speech was slurred and smelled marijuana. If this women had any common sense she would have seen the ramp in my front yard (meaning a disabled person lives there) and know medical marijuana is legal in Michigan. Very judgmental. She also walked around my yard looking for a dog that supposedly was attacking someone, but she would have seen the twenty foot tieout and seen there were no dog tracks for a dog to have ran lose. I will never recommend this place to anyone.
