Was clean, staff friendly. But the best part was the plants. I have been traveling from Walmart to Walmart around Michigan in search of more uncommon plants and the Houghton Lake location did not disappoint! The Cuprea Red Secret Alocasia alone made the trip worth it! They also had, Philodendron Ring Of Fire, Philodendron Pink Princess, White Knight, Alocasia Ninja and black velvet. Among many others.

There sure is big difference from the Walmarts from town to town. A very big difference. My hometown Walmart is sub-par compared to this place. Great store, clean with an excellent layout.

I always had Walmart today most of it was okay until I went to the leave today I wanted to stop at the Subway in the store. I have emotional support dog which was created to me by the state of Michigan by the social security. Therefore, through the federal court system, she's not a typical motional support Dog. But in Walmart fashion and in Subway fashion. They wanna tell me I can't have my dog there. She's a liability of some kind. Where's according to what paperwork I seen there she is not.So the best I can tell You is it or not, animal lovers? And they don't want animals in their store or restaurant. So I'm putting it out, chairs at Walmart doesn't want dogs or any other animal for that matter. In their store, play any other part of their store for that Matter. So I'm putting it out there to all animal lovers. Stay out of Walmart and stay away from Subway because they don't want you there. And put it after that. Everyone, you know, Facebook or otherwise. That's how play in Walmart don't like animals.!!!!!!!!

I love this walmart! The staff here are super friendly and are always willing to go above and beyond. This walmart is huge and has everything always stocked. I love that their sports card section is also always filled out stocked with great products!

We came here to get a prescription filled, while on vacation. The pharmacy was quick to fill the order & the staff was nice.While walking around we also found that they have a Mother’s Room (at the back by the electronic section) - this is awesome! The room has a chair, a little table, & a garbage. It is right next to the bathrooms with changing tables if you need to change a diaper.

This store always surprises me... family fare will allow you to by a full ham and take it to their deli and have it processed the way you want for the same price on the tag... Walmart does not allow you for whatever reason. Always some crazy rule for automive things too... like oil changes, and anything.to.do with tires on your vehicle. I still continue to shop here because they do have price match, and are for the most part reasonable on price.

Bought a defective phone from here. Was advised to call straight talk then straight talk said call walmart. This went on until the BBB was contacted when they got a hold of us they said you have to buy a brand new phone and yours is no longer under warranty. If this would have been taken care of when we initially called it would have been covered. When I asked to speak to someone higher the manager just said, "well you can contact 1800-walmart." And refused to get me in touch with anyone else. Horrible customer service and they do not stand by their products.

Got to check out and accidentally charged myself 2x for my bananas and and I started to look for help,but being I have tattoos I guess some snotty woman with glasses came over accusing me and my 65yr old mother of stealing 5 bananas that we paid for on accident to many times and just wanted help...I'll post a picture of the snob

I can usually get what I came for, though quantities are often limited on many things, a number of others have yet to become available again post-pandemic, and re-stock tends to be slow or inconsistent. The often-changing layout of their vitamin/supplement aisle makes ZERO sense - not even to their employees!Recent staff changes are a major improvement in this store. They are much kinder & friendlier, far more helpful, and seem to enjoy being of service now.I'll add more stars when products that used to be readily available return, when I can consistently buy more than 2 - 6 items I used to purchase in bulk, and when regular items can be found more often than not on a day-to-day basis.

Worst walmart store ever rued customer service just watched them scream at a customer and then gave me an attitude As well. Employee and their manager need to look for new jobs . If you can't be friendly you sure shouldn't be in customer care.

When they ask to see a receipt when your walking out the door is a little much.. if your worried or think im stealing then maybe you should give real cashiers there duties back... until then I'll never show my receipt again

Well stocked, nice and clean even the clothing was folded neatly. Would like to see them stock more organic items. Love how everything went to self scan, suggesting "We trust you to ring up your items" please show me you receipt at the door because we also don't trust you at the same time.

Place was a joke all of the pop can return machines were either broke or full. Would not recommend going here to return cans these machines are slower than a turtle this place is a DUMP !!!!

Walmart has never been known for its customer service, we all know this. Recently my family purchased meat from their deli and used it to make an expensivly large meal for a family event. After baking this and serving it, it was discovered the deli had left the plastic on the meat when they sliced it so everyone ate plastic since it was so thinly sliced. We went to walmart and let them know what had happened. Instead of apologizing and taking care of the customer, they instantly were defensive about the situation. When asked to make it right, we had a lot of other ingredients in this dish that were now ruined because of their mess up, they only wanted to replace the meat that they messed up, not everything else that was ruined. After much back and forth and dealing with the rudeness of their employees, our calm was done. The lady "helping" us at the customer service counter kept coming up with the dumbest analogies to explain why they shouldn't pay for the other ingredients they ruined. Eventually, after pointing out how terrible her thought process in this scenario is, we left. We were told to come back to the store to talk with the store manager, so we drove the hour again to this location again. We were not allowed to speak to the store manager and instead we're sat down with the rude associate from our last encounter and a shift manager. Both were again condescending and talked down to a couple of retirees like they were the ones that did wrong due to their frustration of being fed plastic, being treated like garbage their last time there and never recieving an apology. After being scolded, Walmart was "gracious" enough to give them a gift card for the amount of ingredients lost during this. But only after being talked down to the entire time. After this we spoke with corporate and they were going to have the actual store manager reach out to us, which to no surprise never happened. I can put up with a lot at this store since they're the only big box store in Houghton Lake, but after treating elderly customers the way they did, never apologizing for their mess up and feeding their customers plastic, I've had enough. These people are so high on their horses they forget how to be decent human beings and do the right thing. They're so blinded by the corporation that they think they are the corporation and forget that it is the customers that pay them. Walmart as a whole and especially the Houghton lake center are terrible places to give your hard earned money when they can care less about endangering you.

Great service from the guys and gal in the tire and lube service dept. they filled the flat that we got on our church bus AND checked all the others for free! The men's bathrooms were clean and well located one at the front and one at the rear. The employees were friendly and all had smiles on their faces

The lady at the customer service messed up our check the day after Christmas and screwed up our Christmas break up for my wife and me and our 4 kids. Worst walmart ever. Thanks to them our Christmas dinner with family is screwed up.

I am handicapped (cannot walk) and the carts always seem to be not charged. Get halfway through the store and half to be pushed back out to my vehicle. This has happened on several occasions. I have been doing my shopping at local stores (small but always have carts in good working order.)

Clean stocked store nice greeter who helped us with the electric carts. I have a disabled daughter who uses them and we had issues with the carts saying fully charged but yet died right away. However, the greeter warned us about the carts breaking down but it was still annoying. Obviously they are aware of the problem, so please fix. We spent more time there than wanted because we had to keep trying to get dead carts back front and try another one. It was frustrating and difficult for someone who can't walk.

Was able to find what I needed plus somethings that were on sale too! Great lady at cash register very polite and cheerful! Only shop at this store when up on weekends at our cabin in Harrison from Saginaw, MI. Always will be back. Very clean and organized. Just got to keep checking clearance isles once in a while to find a good bargin. ;)

Get some popcorn :)There are three employees who violated Walmart’s policies while on the clock. First, and most importantly, the bald “manager” aggressively approached a young woman and repeatedly pointed in her face while making threats. It is clear that his position should be put under review. While in uniform employees are not to act violent towards customers. His rage took over, despite this rule, forgetting all morals.This occurred because he overhead someone calmly asked for another employees name after they made poor decisions. A father came with his three kids and happened to be buying alcohol for 4th of July weekend. A homeless-looking employee convinced herself this was illegal and informed her coworker: Shelly. Shelly rudely approached and decided to ask for the ID of a 17-year-old child, rather than the man with white hair, born in 1964. The situation unfolded quickly while the crackhead was swearing; completely unprofessional. She even went as far as to call a customer white trash, ghetto, and fat. (her name starts with a b, but yk who im talking about if you’ve been there)I know these are not the people you want representing Walmart. If these employees continue to act belligerently and cowardly, this location’s reputation will continue to get worse and it will lose business. Executives may overlook these employee episodes as there isn’t another big store nearby. However, not taking action will hurt your business.
