The owner of this place is not very knowledgeable on half of the animals she carries. She couldn't tell a male from a female leopard gecko but she'll sell you one. The tanks for almost all of the reptiles she has are way too small. The place never smells nice, understandable it's a pet store but I've smelled way nicer pet stores. The place is dingy and old. Always caked in dust and dirt. Its unsanitary for the animals. Her husbandry is ancient in comparison to new age ways of keeping animals, especially exotics.■ Dusty and dirty■ Improper care for alot of the animal's■ Selling dangerous items for animal's, i.e. hamster balls (outdated heavily and bad for their backs) , metal hamster wheels (can cause bramble foot).■ Sketchy "Rodent" food. It's mostly seeds which can cause skin issues.■ Borderline abusive tendencies with the smaller animals.■ NOT PROPERLY EDUCATING CUSTOMERS NOR SHOWING PROPER CARE TECHNIQUES OR CAGE/TANK SET UPS.I really could go on, but I just reccomend you do not shop here unless absolutely necessary. There are better options.

Amazing service, very knowledgeable help. Love ALL the birds and fish purchased here, healthy and happy. All my cockatiels and fish were purchased here and I love them all. Will continue to shop here for pets and supplies, easy choice.

Worst pet store I've ever seen. Animals were in super sad conditions and obviously unhealthy. Place made me wanna cry for the animals and left me feeling dirty just for going in there.

What a great place to go we take our African Grey bird from Manistee to Kalkaska every 6 months to get his beak wings and nails done Doctor McDonald is a traveling vet very nice man !!!!! Thank so much for being so kind!!!

I loved visiting this nice little pet shop! The owner was very kind and sociable.This may come as a shock to some, but pet stores will smell like pets. This is pretty normal and it is kind of nuts that people are feeling compelled to mention it in a review on a pet store. In that regard, it was actually not that bad at all?? I've been in homes with just a single pet that smelled much worse/stronger.If you grew up in the 90's and remember the classic pet shops of old, this will be a bit of a nostalgia trip. There's a wide selection of animals, none of which seem unhappy or distressed. Other reviewers complained about dust... The building is old, this woman has been in business for decades. She's doing a great job keeping up with everything, all things considered. She clearly works hard and I'm so glad she serves the pet needs of her community. Northern Michigan pet owners like me appreciate it!Had to leave a five star review and will definitely be coming back to this store for all the needs of my rats. It was worth the road trip to get to her. She's made two very happy, loyal customers for life!

Great little fish store. My first visit was today, and I will be a return customer. As I walked in the door I was greeted by a loud "Hello", but I saw no one around? They also sell birds and it was a beautiful " Macaw" that actually greeted me. They also sell reptiles. Nice selection of tropical and marine fish. Customer service was awesome, the owner is very nice!

Great place to buy healthy fish and aquatic plants!! She also sells other pets and supplies but being small, she can order some stuff and give you a call when it comes in...i don't mind that at all as I will drive the hour there just to know I'm getting healthy stock at good prices. My trips usually combine many things together because of the distance but Pets & Things is worth it!!

My husband and I love going here. She has a great variety and is knowledgeable on the species she is selling. She will even special order! Definitely recommend stopping in, she has something for everyone.

I agree with another poster about the conditions and the lack of knowledge over the pets and supplies in this store. I've gone into this store 3 times in the past few years and have never gotten anything. Hopefully the woman running this place makes some changes for the better but I think I'm just not going back ever again. It's just not worth the effort and stress because I always leave feeling sorry for the animals and condition of the store.

I live in the UP and have been looking for pet rats everywhere and my friends from Traverse City recommended this pet store to me. I called them and asked if they could hold two female rats for me for a week until I could pick them up. They had no problem doing that for me. They are extremely nice people and take great care of their pets! I highly recommend this place.

It's the Only pet store in northern MI where I can buy the type of parrot food I feed my little parrot! Plus, they have a semi-retired zoo veterinarian who comes twice a year to trim beaks, nails and wings for a very reasonable price! Very personal service, friendly service from the family owned business, who treat you like family!!! ❤

Very friendly lady. She does have a free roaming cat around the store. The store carried pretty much anything needed for basic care of exotic pets. Prices are fair, a little more expensive then buying it online. Tanks and floors could be more clean, but then again, it's a pet shop, with live animals. Store carried Parrots, salt water fish, rats, mice, snakes, tortoises, bearded dragon, crickets, and spiders. Overall a good place to shop for exotic pets.

Hands down the absolute best pet store. They have been around my whole life and wouldn't think of going anywhere else with my business. The owner is the kindest, caring, helpful, knowledgeable person you will ever meet in the pet industry. She goes well out of her way to give exceptional customer service and assistance to her customers. You will NEVER get that from your big box store or another store for that matter. I have never seen such sacrifice when it come to her customers from any business owner. They are all about money first customers service second. Not with this owner.

I went to visit this pet store 2-6-2018 in search of salt water fish and was quite surprised at how many and the quality of fish they had.The owner was very helpful and really nice. She took the time to answer all my questions.Her fish are healthy and fat; the owner tossed the fish some food and they all came to eat with no problems. The fish here are nice size and are priced reasonable with a great selection. I brought home a nice yellow tang, skunk shrimp, some scarlet crabs and some snails for my aquarium . I would have bought a blue tuxedo sea urchant, but she had sold it last week! She can order anything you're looking for, so I'll probably call her and have her order me one. She had a awesome black tang, 3 foxface, sailfins, tangs angles, ocellaris clowns, tomato clowns, clarkii clowns, wrasses, hawkfish, blenneys, starfish and many more.She also has a nice selection of birds, lizards, mice etc.A nice little store for northern michigan.Im glad i found this place and would recomend you go check it out!

My husband and I have lived in Kalkaska for 14 years now, and have adopted several pets from the wonderful owner at Pets N Things. Started out getting Finches from her. We've adopted 4 mini lop bunnies, and 3 kittens which she doesn't normally have but people seem to drop them off at her doorstep.She is very kind and helpful and I highly recommend her and her pet store.

Love this place! Trust the quality of the animals and the food way more than petsmart, and the owner is super knowledgeable. Everything is reasonably priced and you even get a hello from the birds when you walk in :)
