Fantastic place to get your dog washed! Price is a little pricier for a self wash ($14), but you do get to use free shampoo and conditioners and have a great facility that is clean and isn’t on a timer, so you can actually get your dog washed properly! Loved this place! Very easy and convenient to use, and I loved that you get the whole room to yourself so your dog isn’t distracted by other people or other animals. The staff is super nice and they do a fantastic job cleaning between uses and making you feel welcome here. I’m definitely grateful for this service. Wish there were more locations! Highly recommend!

Great store! I have a lot of pets, and they always have something for my needs. The staff is very helpful with their recommendations, and are always willing to check the back for specific products or sizes for me. Dog wash station is awesome, and the staff is always very understanding and welcoming of our dogs. As rescued rabbit, guinea pig, and dog owners, we love that they have adoptable pets in store. The animals are well cared for, always have what they need, and the staff keeps a protective eye on them, preventing potential abuse from customers and/or customer's pets. It's good to know that they put animal welfare before a sale.

Love this place! They always have everything I need in stock, are so friendly and pleasant whenever I come by, and the store is kept in great shape - always clean. They even support a local rabbit rescue which I love since a lot of pet shops promote selling small animals for profit instead of supporting rescues (not many know about all the small animal rescues around so this helps their visibility a ton). They also strongly advocate for the animals that are there and ensure no one from the public is mistreating them. Their staff really seem to be good hearted animal lovers which is cool to be around.

As the Director of Rabbit Angels Rescue, I greatly appreciate that the staff at this store do not allow people to use our rabbits for training their dogs. It is stressful for the rabbits and is absolutely NOT in the best interest of the rabbits for activities like this to occur.Thank you to Susan and her staff for protecting our buns, and trying to provide a safe and positive experience for all species.

Chow hound does a great job of caring for the rescue rabbits that they host. Rabbits and other small animals are intelligent, living beings. They are not toys or training objects for your dog, and intentionally scaring them with your dog is cruel. I am glad that the Chow Hound employees prioritize the safety of their small animals over dog owners who think that they should be able to do whatever they want.

The two girls working this morning saved my life. My dog got sprayed with a skunk this morning and I had no clue where to go or what to do, and after petsmart turned me away I’m so glad I went here. They were so kind and patient and helped any way they could while I washed the skunk away at the self service station. Thank you so much!!

I love that this place doesn't let people use the rabbits as training material for their dogs. It goes to show the staff genuinely care about the wellbeing of the animals.It's beyond ignorant for people to think that's okay to train a dog with live animals. Rabbits are living beings and prey animals at that- train your dog in different ways or pay for a proper trainer. Nobody in their right mind would harass rescue rabbits and boo hoo about getting kicked out afterwards.

UPDATED: Your response is hilarious. I have spoken with your manager and in with two stores - your former GR headquarters included. JOKE. Please don't offer things you don't follow through on for social media purposes. REVIEW: Would give zero stars if I could. Unresponsive, unhelpful, terrible experience - everyone just passing me off to the next person. Support locally owned, which is not this shop. They are owned by Feeders(?) and they don't care. In Kalamazoo? Go to Beowoof downtown if you want to support local. If you have to, order online or go to PetSmart - at least you may have some recourse for resolving issues. Not here. Thumbs down.

I have been training my pup through positive reinforcement since she was a couple months old (she just turned 2) and this involves regularly taking my pup on outings. She has been to every pet store in portage, Kalamazoo, and more- as a result. This location or chowhound is one I only take her to once in a blue moon, though. I like chowhound’s variation of toys, clothes, food toppings, and the ability to train my pup around other pets which was the only reason I kept taking her. However, my issue has always been with the staff. They’ve always lacked friendliness: we’ve never been offered help/ they usually ignore us and they barely say a work when we’re checking out at the register. Today put my on edge though- enough that I will not be going to this location anymore. I let my dog go to the bunnies they have and, normally, she can be directed to sit and give her attention to me/ watch them calmly. When we went up to them today, though, they immediately ran as fast as they could away which got her riled. She was pushing on the cage with her nose and I was starting to re-direct when an employee saw and said in an edgy tone “please don’t let your dog push on the cages like that”. I completely understood and said okay and attempted re-directing again. There’s a couple ways I re-direct her away from a situation (one or the other will always work on her) and I start by trying throw her attention on a treat and lure her away. I held firmly on the leash so she couldn’t get to the cages as easily but this method wasn’t working as she was still riled up from the bunnies running back and forth. The employee watched all of a min as I tried this way first before she walked from down the aisle and loudly said “okay that’s enough” and she made swatting motions with her arm as she continued to talk saying “that’s enough. You’re still letting her do it. These bunnies could get a heart attack like that”. I managed to pull my pup away and silently left the building, even though I wanted to look around for Christmas dog toys. I have heard of bunnies getting heart attacks from extreme fear but I also know it’s not the most common. I was doing what she asked the way I feel comfortable with my dog but that employee did not allow this. She was on edge the whole time with us and acted very unprofessionally. I’ve had to redirect my dog away from other pets at petsmart, petco, and more- all successful and with helpful, happier employees. They’ve never spoken loudly with harsh tones or swatted at us. She didn’t look like she wanted to be there which is the norm for that chowhound, from my experiences. I will never be going back, personally, and, if you want a place where your dog is welcomed/ helped while you train and shop- I do not recommend this place at all.

usually i’m pretty pleased with the staff here but the past couple of times i’ve been in one of the workers seems to be really sick. she is constantly coughing at the register and it sounds pretty painful. it’s also kind of gross, to have someone that sick running the register and touching my items. i feel for the girl and i hope she gets better, but i don’t want someone who is sick to be touching my things.

My experience at Chow Hound Pet Supplies for a pet wash was generally positive. The facilities were convenient to use, making it easier than washing my pet at home. However, I did notice that the washroom cleanliness was not up to par, as it still showed signs of the last pet that was washed. Despite this, it’s a great option for pet owners seeking convenience in pet washing.

Fantastic pet wash station. They supplied towels, shampoo, hair dryer, and a fantastic wash tub that can accommodate any size, dog or small pony 😁. They also supply a rubber apron to keep the owner dry. Wonderful facility. Thank you Chowhound!

This place is the best! Really wide selection of products, and super nice staff! I'm a big fan of Sammie the store cat too. The self serve baths are awesome and super easy to use. And the have adoptable kittens if you need a kitten fix!

I wanted to leave a review because I think chow hound is amazing and just had a wild experience watching another customer come at one of the employees over nothing and he got a bad rap.The guy with glasses is great at his job, I just saw him defuse the situation between this girl who was having a major fit about him helping another girl while one of his other coworkers stepped in. She later went to confront him but he was calm and said thank you for the feed back and have a nice day. What a bloody legend, lol

We go out of our way to shop here and have our dog's nails trimmed. The staff is great and everyone is patient and gentle with our very dramatic fearful dog while she has her nails done.

We adopted one of our cats from here. They are always extremely helpful and not only do you feel welcomed but they go out of their way to help you! My boyfriend found a kitten on the side of the road and he ran in here to pick up supplies while we waited to turn the cat into an establishment that was willing to care for the cat. As soon as Chow Hound heard this story, they took it upon themselves to call one of their foster families to pick the cat up SAME DAY. They go above and beyond to help our furry friends and I can’t say enough good things about them!!

Friendly staff and a good collection of dog supplies. The prices are a tad on the high side, but this is a convenient location. We take our dogs here to give them their baths as we don't want our drains clogged with fur.The bathing facilities are excellent with a good amount of shampoos and conditioners in a few varieties. There are also a few treats to coax your pet into behaving while getting their bath. A wash only includes two towels, that could be improved as the towels are small for a dog more than 50 pounds.

Brought my newly adopted GSD for a bath. He wasn't so thrilled about it, but I was! Staff was wonderful and helpful. I love that I don't have to think about bringing my own supplies, the price point is especially amazing considering all the soap and such are included. We will be back!

Great place for specialized and very specific dog foods. Raw is available although not always stocked correctly, very nice rewards prgm, we spend a good amount there and we get free 10$ or 20$ on a regular basis also get random free bags of dog food of our choice. The baths are also very nice, might be good to have rubberized or grippy floor in there bc the tile has my dogs slidding everywhere.

Okay -staff here are SO FRIENDLY and I love that they have a DIY dog wash! Everything you may need is included -shampoos (we used a teatree wash for itchy skin), cream rinse, ear wash (with cotton balls), perfumes, coat conditioners (we used emu oil), treats to keep them occupied -it was well worth the $13. They even had tools to use while washing the dogs coat -and aprons to keep us humans dry! Loved it!

Unable to deliver same day order within the info on their website, I called and asked them to cancel the order and was told ok. 2 days later I got a surprise delivery of the item I asked to be cancelled. I immediately called the store and spoke to Hannah and explained the situation and she said she would immediately called the delivery driver back and cancel the order and then proceeded to complain about time it took to deliver the order to my house (even though I live within the delivery zone). Been over a week and the funds have not been refunded. Been in contact with my bank and now disputing the charges and will never ship there again.

The best pet store on this side of Kalamazoo!! They have the cutest little store cat that was so friendly and not bothered at all by other animals, plus it gives a great home to a cat! So many places in there for little kitties to curl up and nap! They had a great deal yesterday where if you bought a buiscut you got a free bath voucher, and I brought my pup and gave her a bath. It was a great bath for my beagle! They have a ton of shampoos and conditioner and breath spray and paw cleaners and brushes! Everything we needed and more! I will definitely be coming back and telling all my friends about this place!!!

Chow Hound offers a unique variety of pet supplies; we have a unique variety of pets in our home! We shop at PetSmart occasionally, but the competitive prices and selection/supply (crickets, tough dog toys, special foods) here on some items can't be beat. Our dogs have unique backgrounds and needs, and the small-feel of this store and friendly staff helps support them, as well.Really enjoy Chow Hound!
