I had a great experience working with Liz and Kat at ARP as I navigated the process of adopting three amazing kittens. This is the first time having kittens or cats, and I was nervous. However, they were welcoming, informative, patient, and show/ed a genuine concern and passion for the work they do. I highly recommend adopting one of the many wonderful felines or canines from the ARP tribe. I got guidance all the way through. It was like I had my own entourage. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.Gisela, Cedar, and Rusty.

Literally can’t say enough amazing things about this place! We bought our first rescue from here and she sadly passed away 6 days after getting her from a terminal illness. ARP covered everything for us and offered us a new rescue dog. We decided to do a second rescue to help with our grieving and she’s been amazing! We went back for our then second rescue a week later! The staff here is amazing and you can tell how much they have a passion for these animals! We keep in touch and update them on our amazing rescues. I’d only get my animals from this place from here on out for sure! Highly recommend them to anyone searching for animal who needs another chance at a forever home!

We just adopted our first dog from ARP! It was a great experience, and you can tell they really care about finding these dogs the right home. Liz was super helpful and wonderful to work with.

I had the pleasure of adopting my dog through ARP with Kat, who was so friendly and accommodating. I especially loved spending time with my dog's foster family in the meeting room. They told me all about the previous weeks they spent with her, which was so helpful to know. Roo had a warm welcoming into our family and I can’t wait to watch her grow. She is my second dog after my best friend passed away a few months ago and although they are completely different, I’m so glad I met her.

We were really pleased with our experience here. When we went to look for a companion for our older, widowed dog, they introduced us to all the pets they had for adoption. We met two different puppies and spent a good deal of time with them both. A staff member knew and shared their history and their temperament as they were siblings. We came back a couple days later with our older dog to do a meet and greet. The staff spent more time with us and evaluated both of the dog’s behavior to look for any warning signs. There weren’t any and the staff member shared with us what we should expect as good behaviors and what to watch out for as bad behaviors. Our little Franklin (Wreath) is a great fit and we couldn’t be happier with the complete experience.

This beautiful girl came into our lives in May of this year. She was the perfect addition to a home with 2 seniors and a senior dog. The Animal Rescue Project specifically Kathryn made the process smooth and very easy. If you are looking for a pet I highly recommend visiting the facility is clean and the animals are well cared for by loving caregivers. Rescuing is very rewarding ❤️

We adopted our Laney from Animal Rescue Project and the process was amazing. The volunteer who helped us the day of adoption, Kathryn Smith, was so helpful and knew Laney so well and was able to answer our questions and ensured we were the right family for her. They deeply care for all animals in their care and I refer anyone looking for a new family member to them.

Amazing! Elizabeth is clearly in her element as the pet matchmaker!! I couldn’t have asked for a better fit and a more caring team to work with. I left with a cat who is truly my perfect fit. I appreciate everything Elizabeth did to make it a great experience from start to finish and I couldn’t recommend them more. Adopt from them, donate, volunteer, anything. This place is worth investing in.

We adopted two kittens from Animal Rescue Project in September 2023. It was awesome to be able to go visit all the cats and kittens to spend time with them before choosing the right one for our family. They made us feel so comfortable and answered all of our questions. They knew the kitten we picked was the right fit for our family so, after approving our application, they put him on hold for us so we could make a decision that night. We knew we wanted a brother for him so we stayed in contact with ARP over the next few weeks to figure out the best fit. Sure enough after a couple weeks we found out there was a litter of kittens coming to the shelter soon, so we inquired about them. ARP put the 3 male kittens of the litter on hold for us so we could meet them that weekend and pick the right one for our family. We love both our boys so much!! ARP does a wonderful job caring for their animals, advertising adoptable pets & their needs, and communicating throughout the process. They’re absolutely amazing!

I wanted to give my kitten adoption a few months before I wrote this review. We adopted a brother and sister pair who were around 11 weeks old named Napa and Nana. We renamed them Moon and Min. I’m so glad we choose Animal Rescue Project.Let me start with my experience and why I drove 2 hours in July just to come check out the kittens. My daughter (13) has social anxiety but wanted a kitten. I told her we would have to adopt two as they do better when they have a friend to play with. We looked online and it’s hard to guess what the animals will really be like. I called and spoke with Liz who works at the rescue. She invited me to bring my daughter to their “kitten room”. This way my daughter could sit in the room that is designated for just kittens and see who she got along with. We were there for 2 hours. There was no rushing us and we pretty much played with all the kittens. Well, my daughter fell in love with Min and I noticed that Min was grooming Moon who I had my eye on. We made our decision and I started the paperwork. It was heavily explained to me that to get back the adoption deposit, I needed to have the kittens spayed/neutered by November. I use Banfield for my 10 year old sheltie so I just added them to that plan and they took care of it. Otherwise, the rescue’s local vet would have done it as part of the adoption fee. I didn’t want to drive 2 hours again and make the kittens suffer through a 2 hour drive back home after surgery. When I was finishing up the paperwork Liz had made a comment that her day started off difficult. She was trying to keep her faith in humanity after a difficult rescue that morning. I told her that while people can be cruel, there are people like myself who will love these animals until the end. It just goes to show that the staff at the rescue take the worst from humanity and hope to find the best for these scared animals. I’m happy to be apart of that and truly hope they know how much my family appreciates what they do.The kittens integrated well into our home. Liz inquired how we were doing and answered any questions I had including when Min went into heat a week before her spaying. We kept the cats separated and I highly suggest not pushing the pets close or past the date the rescue gives you to get them spayed/neutered.Once their surgeries were completed, I reached out to Liz again to let her know that I upheld my end of the contract but I didn’t want my deposit back. I told her to keep it as I felt the experience we had in finding our newest fur babies was worth it and the overall fee was nominal.Min loves to snuggle with me at 7pm. I don’t know why but cats are going to cat. Moon loves rubbing himself up against my husband’s beard and snuggling with him around 7pm too. The cats play a lot. When they wrestle, they do it in the dog’s bed. My dog likes to referee them. If someone squeaks, my dog barks to break them up. Both cats are eating well and our vet says their weight is ideal. I will say this, if they find paper towel they will rip it to shreds. I’m thankful they don’t do that to the toilet paper. In a nutshell, if you are looking to adopt then this is a great place to find your fur baby.

I've had the privilege of being a volunteer and fostering puppies with ARP. through that fostering they learned of my old Rottweiler and that my oldest son missed having a big dog. The amazing staff at ARP found the gentle giant that we now call Bear. This was not the first dog that we looked at with ARP. However they took the time to understand the dynamics of our home and the temperament of our other dog Rosie. The first Rottweiler we looked at was an amazing dog but too intense for our little corgi. Bear (formerly Kapone) has been the perfect addition and both of my boys absolutely adore him. My wife agrees that he's adorable. We can not thank ARP enough and look forward to continuing to support the amazing team at ARP and helping them find great homes for all these amazing animals! Thank you ARP!

We adopted a sweet pup, Abby, from Animal Rescue Project. Our experience was nothing but delightful with every step. I was very impressed with the whole operation and their deep commitment to the best care of their cats and dogs. The application process is thorough and assures the right placement for our furry friends. The staff keeps the facility clean and the numerous volunteers walk dogs daily. I love the open roam cat room too! I am so impressed with ARP, I started volunteering there and now serve on their board.

I had the most amazing experience with The Animal Rescue Project! The staff are so passionate about what they do and I felt that from start to finish. They know their animals very well and helped me adopt a kitten that has been a great addition to my tribe of animals. I have a dog and my adopted kitten is my third cat. I plan on adopting through them in the future and I highly recommend them. Thank you, Animal Rescue Project!

I am a volunteer at the Animal Rescue Project and absolutely love the time I spend there and at the events. I get to see first hand how loved the animals are and how much effort goes into finding the right forever homes. The staff is amazing and the other volunteers are so much fun to work with! The facility is always clean and the temporary residents have very large kennels and raised beds to sleep on. I highly recommend adopting from The Animal Rescue Project!

Animal Rescue Project was so kind and patient with us in our process of adopting our wonderful dog. We felt valued and respected, even when we thought we had a good match that ended up not being one. The whole staff is great, but a special shoutout to Liz, who went above and beyond helping us. Highly recommend! We could not be happier with our little guy.

I toured the facility recently (and their new facility currently under construction) and was so impressed by its cleanliness, educated staff and care for all of the animals. Kalamazoo is so lucky to have such an amazing no kill shelter! As a dog trainer myself, I look forward to continuing a relationship with them and will not hesitate to refer clients that are seeking to adopt their next furry friend!

Staff are so helpful and obviously love these animals very much. Each animal is well cared for and is either up to date on medications or are scheduled for medications. Adopted two kittens from here a few months ago and have had no problems, I now have the sweetest cats ever and I'm am so thankful to this shelter. All the animals here have many toys, treats, and wonderful volunteers who help the animals get used to people. They have clear rules to follow for the animals safety. Application process was rather easy as we just had to get our kittens neutered to get out deposit back. If the application process is harder for you don't be worried, they just want the animal to have the best possible environment.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this shelter. I just adopted two kittens, and the experience was great. Both Kat and Liz were so helpful, and you can tell they care about the animals in the shelter. It's very clean, the animals seem as happy as they could be given the circumstance. If you are going to adopt, please stop in to the ARP

Great place to find your next fur baby! Knowledgeable, well trained staff that is always ready to help. The space is very well kept and the animals are cared for extremely well until they can find their forever homes. I have adopted two very sweet rescue pups from them. I would highly recommend them to anyone in search of a new four-legged family member.

Last summer we worked with Kathryn, who is the Cat Team Lead. She was fostering a mama cat and her newborn kittens. She was amazing to work with. She went through the adoption process with us step by step and we are so happy with our kitten, Duck. ARP as a whole is a fantastic organization and I look forward to working with them again in the future.

This rescue is amazing. They truly care about their animals wellbeing, and not just churning animals through the business. Recently adopted our second dog through them. Won’t adopt anywhere else.
