When I first walked past this store in downtown Houghton, I thought, "Huh. Wonder how they stay in business." Well, wonder no more -- they stay in business because they have a fantastic range of items (much more than hardware): gifts, souvenirs, kitchen things, hardware, candy, popcorn. It's such a fun store and the employees were incredibly kind and helpful. I asked an employee for help deciding between two versions of the same tool and he helped me figure out the difference. I got the feeling that he didn't want me to buy the more expensive version unless I actually needed the features, which is the kind of customer service I really value!

Out of 3 other hardware stores, Swift's is the only store that had what we needed. Not only that, but the owner is extremely nice and caring. It was Labor Day when I had called to see if he had what we needed. He said they're closed, but he was still at the store and opened it just to help us out. His kindness alone made our day! Thank you!

Thanks to Byron at Swift’s. Byron talked me onto target to secure this door where a key is not practical. Try to get that level of service at Walmart or Amazon. Note: in addition to this choice - True Value had three other viable options.

Great hardware store! Only con is some of their stuff is a bit pricey, but they typically have a good selection. Staff is always super friendly and willing to help however they can. They even have a nice little art section!

One of my favorite stores in downtown Houghton, they really have everything! I consider myself a bit of a pop fiend, and they have an excellent selection, so many wonderful drinks from so many companies I'd never heard of before. I'm usually to busy to make it downtown, but when I can I always stop by to have a look at what they've got. :)

One of my favorite spots to shop for literally EVERYTHING! Beautiful and varied local gift items, very friendly customer service, and they even carry my hard to find pet food, Fromm. I look forward to shopping here again this year on my UP trip.

They have a wide selection of hardware and an interesting selection of other things, I'd say it's like a small toy store for children and handy dad's alike.

Although they are called a hardware store they have stuff for everyone! A toy section for kids and lots of other trinkets and household items. Just an interesting store to walk around if you've never been there

Ok, so this is not your average hardware store. While you can get all your little fix it supplies and a good selection of tools, yard supplies, even grills and paint, there is also a whole gift shop section. Hand selected toys, local food, Scandinavian gifts. I stop in everytime I visit my parents. Added bonus, right next to KBC Brewery !

What a true gem of a hardware store, and the fact they are celebrating 150 years in business (all with the same family!) is so cool. I stopped by while travelling on the way through and was so impressed with the variety of items they have. As others have mentioned...if Swift doesn't have it you probably don't need it. Keep up the great work, and here's to another 150 years!

Large selection! I went for a can opener, and they had a decent selection for the size and location. The man at the register was very nice, and very charismatic.

Unfortunately, I am through shopping at Swift Hatdware. On June 9th, I purchased a newspaper shopping network gift certificate. Because of unforseen circumstances, I was out of town for 3 weeks and then I came down with Covid. Therefore, my gift certificate was expired. I asked if I could at least get 15.00 worth of merchandise...what I paid for a 25.00 gift certificate?! Unfortunately, they refused. I always bring my UP visitors in shopping...not anymore! Very Unfortunatel.THANKS TO THE HELP OF THE GENERAL MANAGER LEANNE, AT SWIFT HARDWARE, I WAS ABLE TO WORK THIS SITUATION OUT. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I DEFINITELY APPRECIATE HER TIME AND HER CONCERN FOR AN UNFORTUNATE SITUATION. I CAN SAY THAT I WILL DEFINITELY BE RETURNING TO SWIFT HARDWARE FOR MY SHOPPING PLEASURE.

Swift's is a great hardware store with a variety of offerings not available in other places around the community. I strongly recommend them for their selection of decorative items and electrical equipment.

Excellent selection and service, knowledgeable staff, as well as a section of unique decorative items, novelty items; I could spend hours just browsing once I've been helped with the home repair items needed. Love this store!

Man this place is cool. Went in 2018 but they were recovering from flooding. 2019, you could still set the damage outside, cool niche type store, not what you expect from a "hardware" store when you live in California!

This is the perfect neighborhood store. It's got kitchen supplies, hardware, pet supplies, paint, toys, and more. Also they let dogs in! I'll be really sad when I move away to be leaving this place behind.

Decent selection of a lot of random stuff. Mostly hardware, some garden, some housewares, and some knick-knacks. I stop here if I'm just swinging through Houghton, as it's lower on my list of favorite hardware stores around here.
