Always a must stop on any visits to the area. Great university logo items, along with Michigan/UP themed screen print t-shirts and sweatshirts. The selection of Carhartt, footwear, quality socks, and more is great for looking and buying. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

Grab MTU Gear here; albeit cheaper, but perfect for Dad and Mom gear! The kids found plenty of "Up North" clothing they loved too. A couple years ago, I bought our Copper Cutout of the Upper Peninsula from this locale for our wall.

Quality outdoor gear and apparel in a rural location.They also have a decent supply of local souvenirs.I like stopping in a checking out their clearance racks for great off season deals.Last spring I scored some thick knee high wool socks for about 4 bucks a pair.They also have a nice pocket/hunting knife selection and stock Carhartt.Definitely some in and take a look. There's something for the whole family to look at.

While walking through downtown Houghton we stopped in here to check it out. What a find! They sell men's and women's clothing, footwear and a good selection of souvenirs all very reasonable in price. My wife got a nice pair of Keen boots and I got a long sleeve tee shirt that isn't tacky.😆👍 We enjoyed talking to the owners and the place is dog friendly.

I used to love this store...until it burned down and has been rebuilt. Ever since the staff if rude and horribly unhelpful. They watch you like a hawk despite the numerous cameras all over the store now. They used to go out of their way to help you or place an order for a size they don't have. It is more of a bother now. I shouldn't have to feel like an inconvenience when after all it is the customer who makes them money. They have very nice things but it is the atmosphere I avoid now. I don't shop there unless it's something I can't get somewhere else.

They have a decent selection for Houghton but the service is not there. Employees are not very helpful and they have a strict return policy. If you are not positive something is a good fit buy it online or somewhere where you could hey the correct size.I wanted to exchange $80 pants, brought in the item, reciept and all the tags and they would not give an exchange for a different size. You can find better service at other retailers in town.

Wonderful place to find comfortable and modest workout apparel. Lots of good brands and quality items. Great selection of camping equipment as well. This is the perfect place to find a unique and local gift.

Lots of outdoor wear and gear for the average person; in particular, hats, t-shirts with local coolness on them, fleece blankets, sweat shirts/jackets, lots of different hats with earflaps, (I was enchanted by the fuzzy one with buffalo-type horns), and so many genuine Swiss Army knives that nearly everyone in the crew should find one they like. I go here for bucket hats, (good in hot weather), throws with the UP on them(can't get enough of them), and jackets, (the last one I bought is many years old and finally wearing out). We get to stop by once in awhile to see the new stock, and the college kids who are usually there are nice and friendly. I usually know what I want, when I go in there, so I don't need to ask them much. But I suspect they would try to help if I had questions. All in all, a good value for the bucks spent, and if a good touristy t-shirt is all you're after, then this would be the spot to shop

Large selection of boots, hats, and gloves. Often feels kinda touristy though. Walking a fine line between being a practical store for locals and a junk store for out-of-towners looking for ironic t-shirts and the like. The practical stuff they carry is spot on though!

This place has really nice gear and clothing. It's a little on the pricier side, but it really is quality stuff. If I'm out shopping for something, chances are I'll get it here.

We've been shopping at Surplus Outlet for over 20 years. They have the quality lined up with the price, and they understand what type of clothing and gear works in the U.P. The shopping experience is only sad when they've sold out of your size.

I love shopping here. Great selection of outdoor apparel and equipment, high quality brand name stuff. There's also a basement section that's all work related clothing and gear with brands like Carhartt, Keen, Red Wing, etc.

If you need winter gear they have it and anything outdoors. UP gifts and apparel. Service is spotty and pricing is a bit high, but you pay to have their selection in town. Great selection of shoes, boots and other foot wear that you can't find elsewhere.

NOT AN "OUTLET" with what you would expect from Outlet pricing. The back area is a jumbled mess.
