We booked this hotel, 01/26/24 while visiting the area with my 3 granddaughtersThe hotels site said it has a indoor pool, hot tub and sauna, we arrived later in the evening to the hotel to be told they no longer have a hot tub and the pool area is closed, has been closed for some time and no reopen date in the near future!! There site should be updated with correct information! My family was disappointed as everyone was looking forward to the pool. Also the room smelled like urine and even worse so when the heat kicked on. We had to turn the heater off so the smell wasn’t so bad, and then it was just cold in the room!!!DO NOT STAY HERE!horrible place!Photo of the moldy ceiling in the pool area.

Under new ownership. Gift shop is gone, now it’s just chairs in the lobby. Super disappointing. Breakfast no longer has any hot items aside from waffles. Shower pressure in the room was horrible. Pool wasn’t open. Do not recommend this place. Also, it’s now $20/night per dog, when it used to be $10. We won’t return here and it stinks because we’ve come here for many years when we visit. Never again.

I found it annoying that they were shoveling snow outside my window of my room, scraping and very loud at 5 AM. When you're on vacation. You think they could wait to do maintenance and snow removal at a decent hour, say at least 8 AM. I've stayed at this hotel many times. They are very friendly, the rooms are updated and clean. But this was so disappointing.

I can't say I hate this place because I have been coming here 2 to 3 times every year for about 3 or 4 years now. The staff has always been polite and courteous. However, they have failed to do their job and bridge the gap between cooperate and customer to make sure we get the rewards we're rightly entitled to.Rooms: We stay in the same room each time, and it's always been clean and well kept. No bugs, no dirt, and the tub, heat, and air always worked. Outside of the occasional idiots being loud and slamming doors, it's been a great place to stay. I hate the fact that I will have to take our business elsewhere, but right is right.

I stay here atleast twice a year every year and unfortunately this will be my last stay. We have stayed atleast 6 times and being a rewards member were supposed to get a free stay after the third visit. We have spoken to the people at the counter numerous times which know nothing and the one person who did told us to call the main number.Hence this number we cannot seem to get anyone on the line. I feel that this should be the hotels job since they offer the program affiliated with the main brand. This really sucks because we like staying here but one of the only reasons we stay this far out of town is because of the rewards and if we don't get them we might aswell be paying the higher price and save on fuel.

Stayed here on 10/27/2023 in room 140, a Queen bed with a jet tub.The parking lot has a few pot holes around the storm drains and the concrete in the walking path is broken and flaking away. Their was a Chrysler Pacifica (crossover) in the parking lot with a flat tire right by the lobby and it looks like it has been sitting their for a bit.The lady working (Brandy?) was friendly and check in went fine. The lobby has a few chairs and a couch with a tv. Typical hotel lobby with information of stuff in the area. Looked clean and kept up. The check in / check out sign behind the counter was blocked by a bunch of stuff piled up.After check in I walked the length of the building inside to get to the rear where my room was. Hotel has new carpeting, or at least clean carpeting, in the hallways. This was a good impression of what to expect until I noticed the amount of cobwebs on each hall light on the walls as I walked to my room.In my room, first impressions was its clean and decent. Sheets clean, room clean and the vinyl fake wood floor looked fine. Checked the mattress and it was clean. (I always check for bedbugs). Jet tub next to bed was clean looking and worked fine. Bathroom was clean. Nothing stood out. When shower time came I discovered the exhaust fan worked for 3 seconds and stopped spinning, but just hummed. That is a fire hazard if left on. This caused the room to get warm. The AC unit took a while to cool the room as cold air only came out of half the unit.Used the jet tub. Plenty of hot water in this place. Never had an issue getting hot water, but the place didn't seam to be booked with a lot of people ether, so take that for what its worth. As expected, water got on the floor, so after drying off took a towel and wiped the floor and what I found was disgusting. The white towel was dirty... very dirty. Like the floor haven't been mop in a long time. I bet they use a Swiffer duster and not an actual mop and bucket. My feet were dirty from walking on the floor. The bed. It sucked. If I didn't look at it before I'd swear it was a sheet of 1/2" plywood I was laying on. I know Super 8 is a budget motel chain, but I think the dirt/grass outside my window would have been softer to sleep on.As I was laying in the bed, I noticed a red spot on the ceiling. Was it ketchup? Maybe some hot sauce? Probably blood. I don't know. I didn't lick it. But you could hear whoever was in the room above as the ceiling must be wood beams... At one point I thought a bowling ally was above me.Lighting in the room was fine, I guess. All daylight bright LED bulbs. Not soft white or warm. And they had standard bulbs in 3 way sockets as you hand to turn the know twice to turn it on and again twice to turn them off.TV.... worked. No fancy menu system. Just straight cable.Wifi..... FAST! I pulled 90+Mbps down and 50+Mpbs up. Most hotels throttle you.... not here. Its open for the taking.Check out was simple enough. But the lady working, different from the night before, seamed to not enjoy her job or not want to be there. She was just in a bad mood / had a poor attitude. The rear door was propped open most of the time even though a sign said not to do that. Several blind spots for the camera system in that part of the hallway.I don't think I'll stay here again based on the concrete slab for a bed and how dirty the floor actually was.

I visited recently with my family, really good location right off the highway and close to the lake. They just finished remodeling 2 weeks ago and everything looks new. I talked to the front desk lady she was really friendly and helpful she told me how they renovated everything including floors, new machines, pool and jacuzzi. They used to have a sauna but I guess it was out of order. We booked 2 rooms for our family both of them were really clean. Overall I had a great experience here and will definitely come back and recommend everyone to come here.Nearby activities: Camping, boating, and fishingWalkability: Can walk to McDonald’s and KFC and gas station all across the roadFood & drinks: A lot of options: McDonald’s, KFC, J Do’s old town tavern, and more

We stayed here towards the end of July 2023. We liked that it was close to Houghton Lake and the pictures showed it was recently renovated. However, the positive things stop there. When we arrived, there was a note that the hot tub and pool were closed. This was not disclosed prior to booking, so my children were very upset. The heating/cooling system was old and dirty, and it did not work properly. It was either too hot or too cold in the room. There was also a metal piece sticking out from underneath the bed that I scraped my leg on. The continental breakfast consisted of waffles, muffins, bread, and cereal. LOL!!! Oh, and when my daughter went to make toast, the toaster tripped the fuse. When we went to the front desk to report this, the man was extremely rude and short with us. On top of all this, our key cards continued to quit working. We had to go to the front desk more than once to get this fixed. Overall, I WOULD 100% NOT STAY HERE!

Thank you Stephanie and Emma for the personal, friendly, helpful service that is so rare to find these days! After a long day of driving I accidentally forgot to turn off my headlights on my vehicle so I awoke to a dead battery. As a girl traveling alone that can be pretty scary when your car won't start.Stephanie and Emma were so nice and offered me good coffee and excellent customer service/conversation and turned what could've been a stressful morning into a really good one. Both women have hospitality experience in their family and it certainly shows. They have definitely won my business as a first time customer to their hotel and it will now be my "preferred choice" for accommodations in Houghton Lake when considering staying in a hotel. Also, some of the rooms at this Super 8 offer huge, very clean Jacuzzi tubs. It should be noted they do a $50 hold on your card in addition to the nightly rate (which is refunded within 24 hours after check out) but that money being held does help keep people from smoking in or trashing the rooms so when you think of it in those terms it really isn't a big deal.Again, thank you Stephanie and Emma for being kind and making the end of this traveler's trip a positive one.Noteworthy details: Free fresh coffee in the front lobby all day with good creamer. Careful it's good enough to be addictive!

Believe the poor reviews. The pictures of it are from 20 years ago when it was nice and good people owned it. Now the foreigners are bleeding it dry and ruining it. The people working there last Saturday night looked like they were hooked on meth, smoking right outside the lobby door with the door open, letting the smoke stink up the lobby. People using the guest laundry til midnight right outside our room, then whoever was in charge of breakfast starting banging pans at 5am.. Hope it gets shut down by the board of health... breakfast was a joke...

I stayed in the same room two months ago and the phone did not work. It still doesn't work. With cell phones not such a big deal. Except when you are trying to call the front desk with a problem. Also, tv remote didn't work. It turned the tv on and off but did not change channels or volume. After requesting new batteries and waiting an hour for them, it still didn't work. May end up staying across the street next time.

The room was clean, the breakfast featured mediocre items; a waffle iron, stale raisin bran crunch, and fresh coffee. The towels are tiny and we only got two per room. The HVAC didn't work the third night so it was stuffy. The staff was incredibly nice. The Houghton Lake area doesn't have much going on.Nearby activities: Needful Items thrift store is less than 10 minutes away (by car) and I found some cute clothes.

Terrible experience. The room was unclean, sheet and pillow had brown stuff all over it. I ended up washing the bedding myself at the guest laundry. The night clerk who checked us in double charged my account and over drew it. They couldn't fix it until the next morning so my husband and I went 12 hours without food and missed the entire reason we made the trip to begin with. The overnight ladies Tabitha and Jessica tried their best to help me in the situation but couldn't do much. The next morning the Manager was able to refund my card for the over charge and original stay fee and then told me the room was taken care of, she gave us money to go out to breakfast on the hotel and a receipt for our stay and we left. Two days later super 8 attempted to re charge my card this time for even more money then the original fee. I ended up having to block them thru the bank. Will not visit again.

- At check-in: "All of our staff just walked off the job. But, all of the rooms have been refurbished, so at least that got done before they left."- Regardless of the above, the property is tired. The refurbishment wasn't noticed. The smokers "door" half way down the hotel, the grounds were littered with cigarette butts.- NO protein at breakfast: no eggs or sausage. Everything was carbohydrate-based. We eventually started eating breakfast at restaurants.- The pool was in the middle of reconstruction and not available.- Being in Houghton Lake, there aren't many choices.

Clean and pleasant. The young lady working was professional and had a great customer service personality. The hot tub needed water but the pool was clean. Room was clean it is a good little stop when you are on a budget.

Avoid, avoid, avoid!!Checked in late on June 3, 2023 and noticed a sign on the desk saying the pool and hot tub were "closed until further notice". Didn't plan to use the pool anyway, so no big deal, right? WRONG! Next morning I peeked through the paper covering the pool area to see the horror show in the attached pictures. I have no idea what was in the pool, but it sure didn't seem like people should be sleeping and eating in the same building as the hazard stew that was brewing in there. Why a building in this state would be kept open to the public is beyond me.Would give this place zero or even negative stars if it were an option!

I recently booked online for July 8-9, 2023 via Expedia because my family and I were planning a trip to Higgins Lake. In addition, I chose the Hotel because of the advertised pool and hot tub in the event we were faced with inclement weather. However, it wasn't until we arrived that we saw a posted NOTE on the desk stating that the advertised pool AND hot tub were down, and the room was nasty! Coming from Detroit, there wasn't much we could do besides warn others and never come back. We weren't compensated or discounted for any inconveniences. I honestly felt ripped off because if we were to cancel the room, then we would still be charged so there isn't much of an incentive for the customer, which to me is unfair. S/N they do serve breakfast, but no way would we eat there. BEWARE and go somewhere else!!

This super 8 should be ashamed of itself. After a house fire that completely leveled a multi family house, that had three separate units, one unit for mom and partner, one for daughter with New Born and here partner, and the third unit for Mom's brother. So not 1 family but three separate families. The Red cross was very helpful. (The red cross is tied in with the super 8)But they treated all of us as one house hold , at first putting 6 people in one room. Yes great where out of the cold, but all in shock of what just happened and mom who had lost the most was mentally checked out ( not a harm to self or other) so after began and pleading with super 8 we got a nother room. Well the manager and staff are talking and looking down at these Three separate house holds like they were trying to get one over on them because we needed two rooms (really the red cross should have handled it as there separate cass) so after making us feel like we're trying to run some scam, they aloud a nother room. Still people had to sleep on floor. Not complaining!!! very much appreciated of the help..The next day the manager was watching through the security cameras at mom who is still in shock ( not in her right mind) not bothering a sole going back and forth from the room to outside too smoke the manager said he was watching her,in the lobby Mom was having a meeting with people that were going to assessed with aid for a few more nights at the super 8 the manager seeing mom is not in room and busy he had a maid that was cleaning at the other end of motel come to (clean) with no one in the room and the no housekeeping sign hanging. After the maid leaves. The manager comes in the lobby and in front of the lady that is going to help. He rudely says that she is smoking in the room and he has proof. So now everyone is in the bathroom of the first room looking at a little black spot behind the toilet which the manager claims to be a cigarette Ash . (Not that I smell ,or smelled cigarette smoke). Not being able to prove that black spot as Ashe's because it was not, no one had smoked in that room. After not being able to prove his false case. He took the Lady that was there to help, into a private room and lid to this lady . What ever was said to her she had a look of discuss on her face as she walked past the three separate house holds, that were in true need of help and she left . Then this manager proceeded to kick everyone out, his reasoning was in the second room there was a couple boxes of donations some one brought. The manager stated it was a fire hazard and we had to go. Super 8 who is contracted with red cross to help families that are homeless after a house fire. Has a manager that is so evil that 1 day after these families Lost everything. This manager down right lid stopping any more aid kicked three greff struck family out of a red cross paid room 2 days early. It's been awhile since this happened and super 8 scared us for life

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend away. The woman checking us in (Shelia) was absolutely friendly and professional. We had a problem with our original room, so she moved us to another room without hesitation. The room was clean and stocked well with towels. The only reason I am giving this place three stars is that the pool has cracked/missing tiles in it, and someone could easily hurt themselves on it. We never used the hot tub because it wasn't hot, but bath water warm. Overall, I'd stay here with my husband again. One small suggestion to the owner or manager is to make breakfast go until 10 am. When we were checking out at 9:15am, there was a family who couldn't get breakfast because they were fifteen minutes late. People are on vacation; nobody wants to be rushed or wake up early.

Go across the street ti american inn and pay the little extra! You will thank me! Staff here doesnt work very hard. Reception lounging on couch in lobby on phones. sheets weren't even clean. Looks like someone has swammpy butt and sat on them. Hot tub timer doesnt work. Sauna out of order. And the pool tiles falling off. And lord help you if you handycapped the lifts straps were rotted off. Ice machines out of order. Breakfast was mediocre at best if there was even milk left. Cereal stale! This place had potential if the owners would put some money into it. The heaters and air conditioners were from the 70s
