Out of town from hours away and stopped in for a browse. I've been fishkeeping most of my life and have been to many, many pet/fish stores in my years. This place, hands down, has the most passionate fishkeepers I have yet to meet in the retail department. Every single fish is well cared for and kept in a comfortable environment before sale and they seem to have a very strict quarantine process on all livestock going out the door, both fresh and saltwater, which itself speaks volumes for the care they put into their work.When going to most big stores, I admittedly have the Ron Swanson "I know more than you" approach, but I knew right away it wasn't the case with these guys, and I even learned a couple things today.I walked in during an aquascaping seminar with my entire family in tow. I kinda felt bad but one of the gentlemen working (I'm so sorry, I'm horrible with names) took his time to make sure all of our needs were met, and even took the time to educate me on a couple species I've never seen before while giving me a quick tour. A shining example of customer service.11/10, will be back tomorrow before heading home.

Excellent fish/aquatic life shop. Nick is THE man! Came in needing a full setup for a set of turtles being offloaded onto me. He took the time to thoroughly talk to me and answer all of my questions with diligence, despite turtles not being his particular area of expertise. Vastly knowledgeable about products kept in store. I left the store feeling far more informed and confident than I had been walking in. Also took the time to call a friend who does take care of turtles and ask questions about preferred substrate while I was dropping the first trip of things home. That is what you call going above and beyond for someone. Appreciate you!

Good selection of fish, the tanks are clean, and everything looks well cared for. Staff is super friendly and passionate. They have a very impressive quarantine process they follow before they sell fish so I felt confident that I was getting healthy fish.

Been to this place a few times just to daydream about my new aquarium setup. Friendly staff and beautiful aquariums, they have some amazing setups. They take great care of their fish. Any fish you see on display has been quarantined for a few weeks so you know they're healthy. They really take pride in what they do and will get you beautiful and healthy specimens for your tank. They also treat their Betta fish ethically - each one has its own small aquarium with heater and filter. Much better than those sad cups you see at big box stores. Check out their podcast online too!They have great suggestions for your tank and needs. I got 5 beautiful Red Neon Rainbowfish and I love them. They are very lively and healthy and I had 0 losses since adding them several days ago. Much healthier and higher quality than Petsmart. The shopkeeper was very knowledgeable and proud of the health they maintain with the fish. The lionfish are beautiful and they helped my daughter set up shrimp in her guppy tank.

Nick is extremely helpful and so is everyone else I've talked to. Got a great setup for my beta and it wasn't as expensive as I thought it'd be. Helped me get started without unnecessary up-selling, or making me feel stupid for not knowing anything about aquariums.

I definitely recommend this aquarium store. They have some very, very cool Aqua species! The staff is always helpful and friendly and most importantly, knowledgeable in all things Aquarium. Their always willing to spend as much time with me as I need and I never feel rushed. I picked up my first Beta 🐠 Mr. Sastastic here, and the staff all seemed genuinely fond of him and sorry to see him go. These are the kind of people I want to buy my fish from for sure!

Fantastic shop, expertly knowledgeable. Helped me realize I had an invasive plant species that another shop sold me - staff really knowledgeable about Walstad method, plant care, and fish husbandry. Feel free to stop in and just ask questions, everyone is super rad.

A small shop with some amazing aquarium displays and the best freshwater plant selection I have seen. The staff is very friendly and helpful without being pestering. They also have some reef tanks and saltwater selection which I'm not familiar with, but everything looked great and well cared for. No betas in a cup or dried-up packaged plants here.

Beautiful aqua-scapes. I love that they inspire to keep natural ecosystems: lots of plants and snails! They have some basic aquarium equipment, fertilizers, decor, and quality foods as well! (cheaper prices compared to others in the area)

I made my first visit and purchase with watercolors today and it will be the first of many! Absolutely impressed with this place. I was looking for a specific plant I couldn’t find elsewhere in town. not only did they have that, they had stuff I’ve never even heard of before, along with everything anyone could ever need for the hobby. The woman that helped me was kind, patient, and very knowledgeable. I ask a lot of questions as a hobbyist. I’m a sales manager and have been in sales for a long time so whenever I get an exceptional sales person I really appreciate it. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Probably the coolest specialty fish store in all of Grand Rapids. Love the old classic building they are in and everything inside is neat and set up very cool. Extremely knowledgeable staff with none of the pretention that, for whatever reason, you can experience from other stores. If you're in the aquarium hobby, whether fresh or salt, this is a must visit. These guys are breeding fish right in town that you wouldn't even ever see at other fish stores. 10/10 would swim by again.

I absolutely love this shop. I recently got back into the hobby after years without a tank. I found them just by chance while I was in the process of setting my first planted tank up. I can't saw enough about how wonderful and knowledgeable the staff is. I love how between all of them there is all of this in depth and expert knowledge from plants to equipment to breeding and more. With their help I was able to set up a tank I have gotten so much enjoyment from. I recently acquired a 30 gallon and I know where I will be going for my supplies and advice.As a side note, I love how they are able and willing to take special orders and requests for specific things they might not just order for the store. I haven't yet taken advantage of that personally, but I love knowing it's an option I have.

This is the only fish store I will go to and recommend them to everyone I know. I have had many beautiful, healthy, fish from here. Unfortunately I recently added a few fish from Petsmart to my aquarium. It killed all my other fish because they were diseased and they DO NOT quarantine like Watercolors does. Lesson learned. I will say Watercolors are very knowledgeable, always quarantine WITH NO EXCEPTIONS. They will order you fish if they don’t have what you want but their stock changes all the time so be sure to go in and see what they have. They’re good at helping find compatible tank mates and truly care about the wellbeing of the the fish. Love all the employees here. Keep up the good work.

Went in for some aquatic plants and walked out with a new place to get all my fish needs. Eva helped me pick out the best plant for my needs. She gave me a bit of knowledge and a small tour. Every animal was well taken care of and healthy. I’ll definitely be back! 10/10 would recommend
