This place has been serving downtown GR for something like 150 years! Companies that have been in business that long have certainly got what it takes to keep customers coming back. I know that I’m at least the third generation in our family that shops there.Every time I go in here, I leave with what I came in for or a reasonable substitution. The staff here is helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. If they don’t have it, they’ll order it (and not some cheap thing that breaks in transit). Quality products, fair prices and conveniently located (not in a strip mall somewhere)… really close to downtown Grand Rapids at Leonard St and Front St (NW corner)… you’ll see it. Stop in.

Great place! They have a huge selection. My husband sent me with a list and they took me to everything on my list or gave me other options. They were SO helpful and very nice. It's the only hardware store we shop at!! I'd definitely recommend them!!

For a small hardware store this place is great. Not only do that have everything you need at the store the staff is knowledgeable and super friendly! I get to use this store for work but I also use it for personal projects too! If they don’t have it, they will order it for you!

Great selection, particularly of things you can't/won't find in big box stores. Also happy to see they have a good selection of router bits.Friendly and helpful staff. Recommend stopping in if you've never been. I went to them recently for some glass I needed to replace for our wooden windows.Great place for the DIYer, especially one with an older home. All around worth just stopping in to look around and see what they have - I did and left happy with stuff I couldn't find elsewhere in town.

I've lived pretty close to this little gem for years now and I had always assumed it was a plumbing parts store. I had some plumbing issues that I was dealing with so I stopped in to find they had anything and everything you could think of in there. The staff there is friendly knowledgeable and helpful. I had assumed that their prices were going to be higher since they were a locally owned store. However to my surprise they had very competitive pricing.This place opened up in the 1860s and it holds the title of being the oldest continuously operating hardware store in the city of Grand rapids. Great overall experience and I highly recommend checking them out.

Bought hard to find 8/32 screws 4" long for drawer pulls. Also the drill bit that was 6" long.

Best hardware store in West Michigan. The staff is kind and knowledgeable, they almost always have everything you need or will order it for you, and they go above and beyond to maintain the family-owned, small business feel. It is much more enjoyable than wondering the aisles of a large “hardware store” searching for what you need with no workers in sight. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Had a simple project go wrong, flipping the dryer door handle from one side to the opposite. Bent the hinge, stripped screws. Hunter did an amazing job, going the extra to straighten the hinge when the right size wasn’t available. No way to get that service in the box stores! Doesn’t sound like much but when you have a dryer with no door, it matters ☺️

Kutsche's is a great local hardware store. These kind of stores are disappearing so we need to shop them. Not a big box store at all and that's what GREAT about it. Super personal service, period. Nice stock on hand. If they don't have it they will get it for you. You are greeted with a smile and a hand shake. Nice. Been on the corner for ever so very well established. Good prices too.

I wish every place I patronized was as helpful and knowledgeable as Kutsche's. I manage an auto repair shop, and sometimes we need an odd size bolt or fastener. All I have to do is bring it in, show an employee, and within minutes, I've got what I need for a very reasonable price, with super friendly service to boot. Places like Kutsche's have been going out of business for decades. Do yourself and a local business a favor. Try them first before a lowes or a home depot. You might save some money, and a lot of time, and actually enjoy shopping for hardware.

I visited this hardware store in the 90's and was not impressed by the staff. They saw that I wasn't one of their "regulars" and treated me with a bit of a cold shoulder.Well, here I am back in area some 30 years later and I was treated almost the exact same way.They did attempt to help me, but kept suggesting things I knew wouldn't work. I had popped in because of how rare mom & pop hardware stores are these days, but ultimately ended up at the big corporate hardware store because they didn't have what I needed, the prices were lower and I didn't have some guy with bad smoker teeth treating me with jokey banter. Jokey banter is fine but it also can be off-putting when you just want to get a few things you need.

Unprofessional... My dad took a window to be glazed. It looks like a toddler did it. Not even or straight at all. Big bumps and hills, and missed spots. And they charge more than other place. (* Sorry correction they charge more than our local place. But he retired) Not worth it. Find a different hardware store.

The service was GREAT. A man immediately stepped out from behind the counter to help me find the cutting tool I needed. The pkace has an old style feel to it. The only problem was after I left I noticed there was an extra charge on my card for a 50 lb bag of rick salt when I only purchased metal cutting sheers.

I was looking a big flat washer and they had it. I was very pleased at this place. Lots of tools here also. The staff was very helpful and knew what I was looking for. A good price for it. I got 2 of them. One was 1.25" and the other one 1.125". Special project coming up.

Amazing customer service, and just all around great people. You know the family hardware store you see in movies where everyone is friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and is happy to talk to you. This is that place, go there skip the big box and buy local.

This is by far the best hardware store in all of Grand Rapids area. If for some reason they don't have what you need they are knowledgeable enough to know what you want even if you can't think of the proper name for some obscure part or tool.They are also willing to order it for you. This place is old school but top notch.
