I recently adopted my dog from here. I was told she was fed once a day. Not acceptable according to my vet and everyone I talked to. After adopting and taking her home I called the shelter with questions. That is when I was told she has Lyme disease and needs meds. I drove back next morning. The pills were issued 11/15/2022 I got her 11/28/2022. She was supposed to get 3 per day. There were over 30 pills in the bottle. The bottle should have been almost empty not hardly any given to my dog. Yes, they are nice but I wonder how good these animals are being taken care of.

Wonderful people. I called and asked the questions I had prior to adopting our sweet boy Ruger, the lady there is very nice and answered everything I needed to know. The next day we drove up from Caro and adopted him. They went above and beyond with him getting him neutered, vaccines up to date and rabies shot done. I will go back here from this point forward for any dog needs we may have. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a new furever friend!!!

Horrible people. We surrendered a dog we had adopted that we couldn't care for due to her multiple problems. She came to us over weight, with these issues, 2 years ago. We tried. She was knocking me over, running into me on purpose. She would push me into walls. I have Osteoarthritis and she caused me to sustain injury to my knees that has been slow to heal and may require surgery. She ate socks, dog toys and paper. It was a constant battle. She started pooping in the house while laying down. She would not go out in the yard. You had to make her go out and then she would just lay there and do her business. It was disturbing and unsanitary. The people who gave her to us fattened her up and we only ever gave her the recommended dog food, vegetables and an occasional dog treat but she was so fat she never lost weight. We made a tough decision to re-home her. We took her to this shelter and they lied in their listing, painting our family as bad guys. They let all kinds of ignorant people slam us on their site. I contacted them but they never replied. I don't recommend this place. I will not ever donate to them again after the treatment we received from this shelter.

My son & I adopted a nice dog today along with a buddy & his son from a wonderful lady who owns Thumb Animal Shelter & she made it such a experience! He’s resting peacefully now at my feet! She had a little sign posted that read or quite close to this “The best breed of a dog is a Rescue Dog” Thank You!

This is the most caring loving facility. When ever possible please please please bring them laundry detergent, blankets, doggy toys, pop cans, or monetary donations. I've seen myself what a loving environment they maintain so let's join forces & help them out!

We recently adopted a German shepherd from Thumb Area Shelter. The shelter is well run, the animals all appear to be very healthy looking and have large kennels for comfort plus a large area to run around in. I highly recommend as they are a no kill shelter. Great staff and owner.

Love the work they do getting pets home when they’re lost as well as finding furever homes for abandoned pets but the employees are very rude, short and snappy in response to any questions you have. They also get upset with you when you surrender a pet or very rudely ask for information you when you find a dog.My experience:Found two very small malnutrished puppies a couple years back. We took them in to feed them and love them until they were strong enough to be adopted. We took them into the shelter to surrender them (we were unable to keep them forever unfortunately) and literally got scolded because how dare we NOT give them shots or get them fixed and that it would come at a cost of the shelter. Made us feel like awful people just because all we did was give them a heated warm place to sleep, bought them the best food and fresh water until they weren’t skin and bones. Not to mention all the toys we bought them and beds! But we obviously didn’t “do” enough. So all in all if you find your dog missing or find yourself in a situation where you need to surrender your pet this shelter does great work, but don’t expect to be greeted with compassion! They made it very clear to us it’s about the money and what you “didn’t” do that matters most.

The owner is a very kind woman who knows a lot about the dogs she has. It's very clean, and the dogs have a large fenced in area for playtime. All of the dogs had dog beds in their pen, as well as fresh water and toys.

Had to bring them a balck/white puppy 4 1/2 months old. Her name is Lucy. A friend gave this to my hubby as a birthday gift July 20th. We had just got new carpet and we dont know how to potty train her. Hoping someone adopts her that knows how to potty train a Tshihsu. We loved her so much but we are too old to train her.

We drove from Clinton Township to come and give Chico a furever home full of love and care. We were greated with such warmth and care!We knew Chico was an elderly dog that lost his owners due to passing on and I had recently list my best little buddy BooBoo. So it was meant to be and so far, so well! All of his teeth are fixed and the Vet has given him a thumbs up. He loves chasing his gf Cheerios around the yard and barking with Oscar to let the rest of neighborhood know that they rule the block...lol

We found a starving, sick kitten in the area SUFFERING from pain. It was a Saturday and we couldn't find anyone to help. We called these people and of course they were closed and didn't answer. Out of options, we went to the address to beg for them to help. TWO CARS in the driveway (there is a house on this property), people inside shuffling around when I knocked on the door, NO ANSWER! HEARTLESS!!!!! We just wanted advice. I could imagine what the animals are going through at this "shelter"!

I got my pit from this place over 10 years ago... this is an amazing dog rescue... they went out of their way to help catch a lost dog for a family I know... no questions asked... they are constantly trying to reunite dogs that get themselves lost in the huron county area.... missing your dog?? Check their facebook page for daily updates on dogs on the loose
