They are fantastic! Our dog has major anxiety at the vet and we’ve been to a few different places (due to moving) where she’s extremely scared. This is the first place where she has been comfortable. When we first visited, we told them about her anxiety so they just picked her up for the exam and shots and she was totally fine. After years of us being stressed for her going to the vet, we finally have someone who we trust with her and she’s comfortable at.In addition to that, they’re extremely reasonably priced and love the animals so much!

The woman I talked to on the phone today (I think her name was Ivy) was extremely rude to me during the brief conversation we had. It caught me off guard because I had just called to ask if they had done bloodwork on my cat the last time I came in (which was quite a while ago). I called because I am taking him to a specialist (elsewhere) to treat his cancer. The specialist tried to call Decatur Family Pet Hospital last Friday to ask whether they had done bloodwork but they only got a busy tone. I have had mostly good experiences here before today (the doctor is very kind and gentle with my pets). It was just meant to be a quick question so if that if they had, it could be sent over to the specialist but she immediately acted like she was mad that I was asking and it was a hassle to tell me. The receptionist's snarky, uncaring attitude put such a bad taste in my mouth, I don't ever want to call here again.

The staff at DFPH are incredible. Dr. Nancy treats each animal as if it is her very own. Trust is so important and I have never felt as confident about a vet before. So glad our animals are patients here. ❤️

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE! Nancy Rutherford almost killed my cat due to her lack of knowledge in urgent pet care.She didn’t run any tests on my cat, not even a temperature. My cat was dying due to severe intestinal inflammation.Nancy called it a hairball….even though my cat was clearly in critical condition.I immediately went to another vet due to Nancy’s lack of care/concern.The new vet ran tests and immediately put my cat on IV. and admitted her.Nancy has no compassion for animals!!She only cares about belittling pet owners with eye rolls and condescending remarks.

Once again staff was very friendly and helpful. We have an older cat , that basically in cat hospice. Vet handled him wonderfully and helped him great with his cold. We than talked about types of dog breeds would be good for granddaughter. To make sure our cat didn't turn worse over weekend . Vet gave us her personal cell phone so we could reach her not just not some service. Even with her own mother in hospice care. She still cared very much so about each of her patients

We have had two dog that needed surgery. APoodle with bad teeth she was so miserable and now she's like a puppy again. We also have a long hair puppy that had his testicle that did not come down like they should. He's already much better. All our pups are having a better life. We have three dogs and had been going to another vet for years. Suddenly we felt like we were always leaving our vet with more questions than answers and a pretty hefty bill for full grown healthy dogs. We started to look around for a new vet when it came time to get our youngest fixed. I called this vet office and the vet herself answered the phone. So fun to even speak with and clearly so knowledgeable. We made the appointment and brought her in. Don’t let first appearances throw you off from this little gem! I was nervous because it just looked like a little house with allot of clutter along one side. It was small when I went in but clean. The ladies working there have obviously been there a while and all work well together. This vet was more knowledgeable than any other vet we’ve been to! She took so much time to explain things while she was down with our dog playing. We came back when our pup had some bad allergies and again she was down on the floor with our pup the whole time she explained what was going on. This woman is clearly one of those people who has spent her whole life with animals and truly loves what she does. And one of the best parts is she is incredibly fair with prices. She wants you to enjoy and care for pets as much as she does! How can that happen if prices to have one and care for one are sky high? I can’t recommend this place enough. Hidden gem!

I when an emergency visit they were very professional it was a very sad visit I had a put my 16-year-old dachshund down he had heart failure they comfort him to comfort my son and I I felt comfortable very professional people they were they didn’t turn me away like other vets did today was a really bad day for us I would highly recommend this vet!! the people that work there are very experience and making people comfortable in the situation.

The lady that runs the place and all of the staff are really sweet. I recently took my jack Russell of 17 years there to be put down. It was absolutely the best case scenario on such a sad occasion. She never even noticed the first shot of sedative and after the second shot she went very peacefully. I couldn't ask for better care

If I could give zero stars I would!We have tried to use Decatur Animal Hosptial twice now and WILL never use them.5 years ago we got a kitten who the person we got her from put flea bath on her too young. She was very sick and we thought she was going to die. We called them and they would not take her or see her at all. They said they had nothing available and hung up.Fast forward to yesterday, our pit bull pup had something wrong with his back paw. Again called them because it said they were open until 7pm. I held for 5 minutes and then was told they again had nothing available and couldn't even fit us as emergent. The person on the phone actually suggested we call another vet.This was horrible! They care nothing about animals and had no interest in getting us or giving us help!

Our sincere thanks to Dr Nancy and her staff. We have been riding out the Covid Crisis for the past 14 months in our summer home, and suddenly our dog took a turn for the worse and we needed a professional to help him over the rainbow bridge. I called numerous local vet's and the common response was "we are not taking any new patients". What a relief when I found a receptionist that was actually caring and went out of her way to help us in our time of need! I can not say enough about how caring these people are! They made a very difficult time go very smoothly, and helped us to feel at peace about our very difficult decision! If you are looking for a "flashy web-site" this is not the place for you. If, on the other hand, you are looking for compassion and kindness and someone who will treat your pet like their own; this is the right place for you. Thank you SO much Dr. Nancy!!

Such a great veterinarian. Very knowledgeable, friendly, funny and most importantly kind & caring to animals.We first went here when I needed to have my princess (Maltese) put to sleep. We have since brought our other pets in for different types of treatment.The costs are reasonable. The veterinarian goes out of her way to make your animals as well as you comfortable . She tries to help save you money when possible.Highly recommend at least trying.

Our girl was throwing up blood and she is not regular patient as we are seasonal from AZ. Called and they had immediate opening. Staff are wonderful and it's obvious they all care about their patients. Dr. Rutherford explains what was going on and how the treatment was to work. Gave clear written instructions.Also gave advise on what kinds of food not to give to avoid other issues. I will not hesitate to use Dr. Rutherford again if necessary.

Been my vet since Dr. Butts retired very good with my dog he loves her even when she's sticking him with a needle. I like the fact that she doesn't discriminate against breeds I have a 16 year old pitbull terrier (best dog I've ever owned)

It was the day after Thanksgiving and my dog wasn't doing well at all. Called around the area for someone that could see him asap and no one could see him. Decided to take him to Kalamazoo to the animal hospital up there, but on our way up there I realized that Scrappy wasn't going to make it that far. My mom just so happened to look to the right and saw this little place called Decatur Family Pet Hospital, decided to call and they said they could get us in thankfully, because we ended up having to put him down that night. The people there are compassionate, and very knowledgeable. They took the time to thoroughly check Scrappy over and explain what was going on with him. Thank you all so much for being there on one of the hardest days of my life. God's Blessings to you.

Took our 12 yr. lab in, not doing good. The Dr. diagnosed him with serious conjestive heart failure. We decided to have him put down. Dr. Nancy was very kind and compassionate.
