The food was good and the price was reasonable. It came out fast and hot. Friendly family run business. This is a new restaurant so they are still working on figuring out their niche. This was once a grocery store and much of the building still looks like that. Once they've been up and running if they upgraded the seating and look of the building that would be nice and help the atmosphere. Definitely a good place to eat! Try it for yourself. :)

Great new breakfast spot in Mason County. The staff are super friendly. Our waitress checked in on us a lot and was very nice. They are clearly just getting started. The breakfast buffet does not have a great layout but I want to give them the benefit and opportunity to keep improving. The servers probably need a real dedicated server station. The tables and chairs are very piecemeal, which adds a bit of charm but still could use a better layout. Higher quality chairs would go along way.The place used to be an old market and while they do have some decorations, it doesn't't feel like a restaurant yet.Even with all this very well meaning and constructive criticism I'm still absolutely givinf them 5 stars. The food is OUTSTANDING! The pancakes were the best I've ever had. Thick but not too dense. Not overly sweet. Just perfect. The eggs and gravey are amazing but the MEAT is perfect. Thick bacon and juicy sausage. Cooked perfectly.I really would love to see them succeed and grow. They have a great space and I can see them just getting better.I'm excited to see where they go from here.HIGHLY recommend.

We had a great time at this place tonight. Wednesday is AYCE pasta bar with a wide variety of pasta dishes, among other things. My husband loved the scalloped potatoes and lasagna and I fell in love with their strawberry cheesecake. I had the country fried steak, my choice of potato (baked) and side (salad - which was delicious - the added touches of fresh spinach, mushrooms, colorful bell pepper and more gave great eye appeal as well as a very healthy dish). Rachel, our server, was excellent. Stayed on top of all our needs, has a great sense of humor (give her a raise and a pat on the back, dad 😁). We loved that the owner came to our table, welcomed us and made sure everything was ok for us. Nice touch! Thursday is an ayce buffet with things like meatloaf, BBQ ribs and more. We were pleasantly surprised at the prices - less than we expected for the amount and quality of food. We also love that this restaurant donates the extra food to our community food boxes (instead of just throwing it away). Great people. Great food. Great deeds.Wheelchair accessibility: With automatic doors and wide openings, you have no problem getting in or out with a wheelchair, walker or stroller.

We did the taco bar last night and I'm so glad we did!! Everything tasted great. My daughter absolutely loves her French fries, too. I can't wait to try the rest of the buffets and at least half the menu! I'm a little picky or I'd say the full menu. We will be back!Kid-friendliness: My 2.5 year old was perfectly comfortable the whole time and our waitress was very accommodating.

I will be going back! It's an old school family restaurant! Delicious food! Friendly service! Take a ride and enjoy Michigan's small town culture!

It's a relief to finally have a diner in Custer, walking distance from our family place. The breakfast and dinners we had last week at The Cardinal were very satisfying. The Eggs were cooked with care and the service was very attentive.Everyone in our group appreciated the friendly atmosphere.I will be visiting again soon.

We tried the breakfast buffet 10/10/23. The food was well prepared and fresh. Waitress was attentive and they made sure all dirty dishes were promptly removed. The manager/owner went to each table to make sure we were satisfied. I definitely recommend. Do not judge the food based on the building. We are looking forward to doing the the weekly menu.Parking: Front row parking.

I wanted to give 2 1/2 stars, because they are halfway there. A few improvements would go a long way.So..Pros: Good food, good variety of things, easy to see from the road. Friendly staff.Owner checks in with guests.Price was reasonable $9.95 for 1 plate or $14.95 for full buffet.Cons: No signs tell guests to seat themselves. Waitresses could use formal training. And the coffee was a little strong.A few other thing I do want to mention, we saw the owner pick a piece of bacon out of the buffet without gloves and eat it while talking to patrons. 👎Also, my sister asked for a glass.of water and the waitress sat her dirty rag and spray cleaner on our table while she went to get the water. 👎And lastly, the (wife owner) brought out new food and dumped it on the old food.Standard process is to remove the old pan, put in the new pan dump old on the new.We did enjoy the food, it was good. It's ok for a quick bite to eat. 2 1/2 ⭐ from me.

I hate that I’m rating it this but I cannot say it deserves much better from my experience. The young lady who was my waitress was so kind and helpful. However, she may need more training as she never offered to refill my coffee or water even though it was empty before I finished my meal. The manager or senior waitress asked if there was an issue when I was inquiring why the bill was more than what the special was offered for online and other than that never addressed me again or apologized for the issue, just said she’d fix it and seemed annoyed that I even asked. The steak I ordered was the worst cut ribeye I’ve ever had and full of gristle so I didn’t even get to eat a majority of my steak that was over cooked at medium well when I asked for medium rare. So sad. Also the eggs were over cooked, easy over was medium and the American fries were slimy. I’m sorry to say this because I adore local restaurants and community joints like these, but I just feel like the passion isn’t there and it definitely shows. I’m not sure that I’ll ever go back but maybe someday if things improve. Good luck folks, I’m rooting for your improvement and success!

We stopped by here on our way back to the cottage we were staying in, we had no idea how amazing the food would be!! We wish we lived closer (we are from Missouri), so we could stop in often. If we ever end up vacationing in the area again, we will definitely be back! Excellent food, we all had the pasta bar. Amazing and very kind and attentive staff. One gentleman even did a magic trick with a coloring book for our kiddos. If you haven't tried this place, or are considering it... do it!

The Walleye has excellent flavor and the portions was two generous pieces. Could have been filled up with just one but loved the taste so ate them both..our server was at the table quickly and said our food would be out soon. She was right, we were impressed with how quickly we got our food. The Amish Peanut butter sauce was a highlight as well. The coleslaw was good but quite different from what was expected. Probably would not order that next time.Nothing fancy inside this place but there were antiques and outdated food stuff that could be purchased at a steap discount..if you are in the area, it's a nice experience to take in.

My husband & I tried Cardinal Restaurant today for the first time; we were disappointed. Apparently, we came in for breakfast when they had some larger groups of 8, etc. But, we waited close to an hour to get our meals. His omelet was okay & it had homemade wheat toast. I ordered biscuits & gravy which consisted of 2 tiny biscuits about a half inch high & 2 " around. The gravy was very thin with a few, tiny pieces of sausage links. The homemade white toast was good, but barely toasted. The waitress was nice, but had the entire dining room to cover. Will try another time at dinner & hope it's much better.Parking: Former grocery storelit, so plenty of parking.Wheelchair accessibility: Automatic doors make entrance easy for anyone in a wheelchair, etc.

Had a salad, bacon burger, and fries. The salad was heavy on the shredded cheese, so more of a cheese salad. (Not what I expected in a salad, but still good). The burger was pretty decent, the bacon was great. However, the fries were soggy and didn't seem fully cooked. The staff were friendly and personable, although I did have to wait a bit for a refill on my beverage (not a huge deal but something to know)I'll try again next time I'm passing through, but I'd avoid the fries and take the default chips instead. I did try the cinnamon roll and it was good. Pretty decent overall for a family home cooking establishment!

Just tried the Cardinal Restaurant for the first time tonight, we thought it was really good! The staff was friendly and prompt. Never had an issue with the coffee getting empty so that's a big plus. In fact, the coffee was delicious. Lately, it seems so many restaurants coffee tastes very weak and just not that good. I don't know if that's true or if it's just been since I had Covid last year, but my taster doesn't seem off. So, it's kind of disappointing that you have a limited menu on Friday, but I can understand since kitchen space/equipment availability can be an issue. Just be prepared for that when you go. If you want something other than fish or burgers on Friday, then you'll probably want to change your plans. But the place was hopping when we came so that was a positive sign. Seemed almost like back in the 90s when people used to go out to dinner and just sat and would shoot the breeze rather than being all quick to finish up and dash off. And to finish up, they had a HUGE list of desserts available. We didn't have any but I'm sure that it would've been delicious if we did. I'm kind of surprised that I saw some reviews saying there was too much grease. Unless they've improved since then, I thought it was perfect. I had the bacon cheeseburger and it was the first time in a long time that didn't have grease drip on my shirt after the first bite. So, kudos to that! We will most likely be going back but since it's out of town, it's not something we can frequent every day.
