My first experience adopting from here about 8 years ago was smooth as can be. I had come in, chosen an animal, played with her, bonded, filled out a quick application and was sent home with her.My second time trying to adopt today was not smooth. Apparently the cat I adopted 8 years ago and my fiancés cat, who both receive regular attention from a local vet, whom I still own and care for, were not up to date on all vaccinations. I only found this out after my application was unapproved, at which time I had already picked out an animal, bonded with it, etc…Clearly the timing for being given an application is somewhat of an issue, as they also have a policy that they cannot place an animal on hold if the application isn’t approved. Meaning, the cat I chose today can simply get adopted out from under me unless I get my cats vaccinated IMMEDIATELY.Well, I actually did that. At the instruction of the adoption manager, I was able to squeeze my cats into an emergency appointment, had them brought up to date, faxed over a copy of the report to the humane society… only to have another worker scold me and block my application, and go home empty handed with still no hold on the animal I was hoping to adopt. It’s just all around very poor customer service, they need to seriously take a step back and reflect on the way they’re treating the people coming in who want to save these abandoned animals. I’ll adopt from elsewhere, from a company that actually wants to see their animals loved and cared for. And yes, I will also be switching veterinarians.

The Genesee County Humane Society is the best. Friendly staff, clean space, and they take such amazing care of the animals. Adopted my cat in 2020 and I will always recommend friends and family to adopt and not shop. They also provide surrender resources although I don't know much. They really try the best to support the local community needs.

Clean facility. Animals are well cared for. I adopted a kitten from here. He’s 6 years old now.

Outstanding staff who showed compassion, understanding at a time when I had to surrender my little girl Sylvester due to my chronic allergies. I was amazed at how quickly she was adopted out and simply want to say thank you all for caring for her and reassuring me that she would go to a loving home. Advocating for animals and the standards that you set for them are cuddled with the love you show each and every day. May God Bless you all

It's ok, hard to get information about them taking an animal in for rescue if you don't have it with you. Made it tough for me to find out if they would rescue some cats outside my job. Said that they had to be a certain age and friendly.

The animal shelter on West Pasadena Avenue all they have are pitbulls 😳 I will admit the dogs look pretty healthy it's just the urine smell from the dog pens and/or area the smell is MAJORLY OVERWHELMING and need some MAJOR ATTENTION because when you leave out of the place the smell bees on your clothes & this is why I gave 3 stars. I just wish there was more of a variety of dogs there. Other than that the staff are very nice and kind people and they do treat these dogs with love

Staff was friendly, you could walk through and see the animals. Enclosures looked clean. The smell was quite strong, but with that many animals that's not much of a surprise. Ultimately looks like a nice facility.

HORRIBLE NON CARING PLACE !!! THEY CARE ABOUT MONEY NOT ABOUT THE PET !! WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE EVER !!! There was a sweet Boxer in there that was very fearful with tons of anxiety and not doing well. She was adopted then a family emergency arose and instead of this place allowing her to go to a Boxer Rescue where she would have been placed in a actual HOME this place said " NO !! You must bring her back here ! " She was given a name and knew her name once they took her back they gave her back her " kennel " name which she does not know then re-posted her under that name , saying housebroken " UNKNOWN" which is also NOT true ! Then turned around even after being provided beautiful , stunning photo's of the dog to be used in hopes of finding her a loving forever home they chose to not use those photo's instead used a terrible photo of the dog standing in the snow with dark streaks of tear stains down her face . WHERE IS THE LOVE and COMPASSION for the animal ???? WHERE ?? I have not seen it with this place at all !!!

Grey area on their rules. Went there to get a kitten, was informed we needed to take the kitten we just got from there to the vet first before we could get another cat. They told us we couldnt put the cat on hold while we run to the vet real quick. Ok cool I get it.. get back and was told the cat was “on hold” but not on hold while someone else went home to get their vet paper work. I still don’t understand why this other person had until the end of the day but not us. My 8 year old daughter who was crying in there for this cat, even thought these rules were messed up and not fair. This place needs to figure out their rules and not have such a grey area. Do better!

Would give less than one star if I could. The female Animal Cruelty Investigator absolutely needs to be replaced. She's currently under investigation for grand larceny and stalking as it is. It's going to look very poor on the humane society to keep her as an employee when she's a thief and also tell people to do something about a cruelty case themself. The fact that she will stalk people's houses for hours not only us unprofessional, but also makes people not feel safe enough to report things to the humane society, and she picks and chooses who she wants to help? Time for her to go. A humane society is supposed to help all animals. Not the ones she picks and chooses. Seems like someone is stressed out and can't handle their job since they know they have messed up.

Great people who truly care about the animals the are looking after. We found our sweet pup there almost 8 year ago and are thankful the took her in when she and her sister were found wandering the street.

Clean, compassionate care at this shelter. Animals are well cared for and treated medically if needed. No euthanizing to make space, animals stay as long as needed until they find their furever home. Compassionate euthanization services offered for a reasonable price. All animals are spayed/neutered before leaving the facility.

Adopted a dog here recently. Thought he had diarrhea because of stress, but it turns out that he has whipworm. Not only I have to treat him, but now I have to treat my other dog to sure she don’t get it. Definitely needs better testing before letting people take their dogs home.

The animals are wonderful but the human society is the worst place to adopt from they hold animals for friends and family and since they don’t tell u until last minute when u go here be ready to have your deed to your house or mortgage And the owner of the house must be alive. I’ve been trying to adopt a animal for abt a week here and every time it’s always something highly recommend on going somewhere else

a few days ago i went because i found a stray puppy and they told me because their department was down they couldn’t take her and that they didn’t care if i let the puppy back out on the road in the freezing cold as long as it wasn't on their property. so much for caring about animals you would think that would be the place to go to save a puppys life definitely made my stomach turn.

So, thanks to one of the rescuers and taking in the cat. As far as the humane society in Burton. we drove 15 minutes to obtain the cat from Mount Morris that pest control was driving around two hours later in the back of your truck with. Picked up the cat drove to Burton to the Humane Society. Long story short we are contractors we do not walk around with cat carriers. But because the cat was brought in, in a live trap. Humane Society will not take her. she has a red collar with a bell, I stuck my fingers in there and pet her to prove she was not Ferral. Also offered to show pictures of her in her home. They still would not take her. I told the lady we’re contractors did not have a carrier so the owner just called pest control. I’m not gonna go buy a carrier if I don’t own a cat. So Humane Society can kiss my round beautiful you know what . That tournament we played in last year and donated $600 to them will never be repeated by our company again. I have never asked to main society for any help till today. They are just ridiculous. Here we are. We are on the job, and these animals are not our responsibility. Animal control, Humane Society, and any other animal centers should be working with people who are on the job and dealing with animal problems. Why do people even bother donated. Seems like your establishment wants cases that results in easy money. Step it up people are not gonna tolerate it. Do your job and your job is to take an animals. I am not gonna run around the house like rescues for hours catching a cat, this was easier.

Adopted my senior cat from them a little over a year ago. Spent the best $25 of my life. Adoption process was very easy and you can tell they care about their animals. They rescued him, and he rescued me. Thank you all for what you do.

Over the years I've donated money to them. I took a lost cat in there today so that it didn't freeze to death and they refused to take it because he had a scratch near his eye. Animal control was happy to have him. Guess who gets my donations.I guess the NOT SO HUMANE SOCIETY wanted me to let the kitty die 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

This place lies constantly pretty much if they say they'll call you , you aren't getting the animal they said all they had to do was verify the vet I called had questions they said our vet was closed witch it wasn't neither of them were then they say the manager makes the decisions she's not there for a week but it's first come first served then that all the dogs we looked at had multiple application to adopt them already but when we wanted to see jade we couldn't because the family that just got there and just filled out application got the dog because it was a perfect application I'm not putting all the lies to much plus there broke my kids heart and inferred we aren't good dog owners we treat our dogs like family plus I'm certified to train dogs through teachers pet our home was perfect the people that got jade without the manager there must have been friends with staff or we were discrimated against for some reason I'll definitely speaking with the manager and now I just found out the dog has adoption pending now when they said nothing would happen till the manager was back

I was extremely disappointed with the animal, cruelty coordinator. She acted annoyed and like she couldn’t care less, about the situation I reported. She told me to handle the situation myself. Are you kidding me? Do Your job. I do not have the authority to Handle a situation of animal abuse. This is why I contacted her.She needs to be replaced.

We adopted this sweetie on December 7,2022 at the age of 4 months. He has doubled in size. He was previously known as Stimpy and now he is known as Nugget. The people there was very friendly and animals were treated great. Enclosing picture

Stupid rules. If you have other pets at home you have to show current vaccinations for them to adopt. Why should that matter?

I went in to adopt a dog. Told the people there that my dog died one year ago. I was denied a dog and told that as soon as I could provide proof of heart worm prevention for my dog that died “given within in the last year”, I would be welcomed back to adopt any animal. 🤔 guess I won’t be coming back. I think there was more to it than that though. Such as I am a semi truck driver and l mostly live between my truck and camper. I am not homeless, I am just rarely home. Big difference.

Had to put one of my babies down. He had cushings and was 12 years old. They were very supportive.

2 stars because all the animals seem well taken care of and that's great. However, it seems like there's some people who work here who simply don't know what the rules are or what's going on, seems like workers are making up their own rules for adoptions. Got told multiple different things by different people multiple times, someone else I know also had a very similar experience. All I can really say is, more training for staff or ask a manager if you aren't sure. Got my heart broken over false promises. Also, never trust them to call you when they say they would, you have to call them.

Got my baby boy Pumpkin from here and honestly I couldn’t be happier. We got lucky. He’s one of the sweetest cats I’ve ever met. Thank you guys for giving me this opportunity. I’m so happy!

Horrible rules to adopt a dog. Yet you wonder why there is so many dogs in the shelter because of all the hoops. My fiancé owns his trailer and they were being so rude and talked to me like a child and wouldn’t even let us see the dog. Then tried to tell us we couldn’t have one bc of the breed but yet his neighbor has 3 of them. Don’t talk to customers like children when they are adults horrible place and nobody in hallways poor dogs had no water in cages and looked sad few of them had poop in the kennel like they haven’t been out. Yet won’t let a loving family adopt a dog rather keep them locked up wouldn’t even let us see or take the dog out to play with it

This was place is absolutely just terrible ,I go up here and try and buy a kitten and they got the manager and the staff to dig into my personal information regarding my home which had absolutely nothing to do with buying an animal….they will ask for your mortgage and they will even try and call people and get information just for an animal that came off the street….will never come here again
