We adopted our puppy one year ago today. She was established to be 4 1/2 months old. She is the best dog that I've ever had! But they were unsure what her breed was and said that she was a shepherd mix/ mutt. They also said that she had grown into her paws (she had HUGE paws). She was around 40 lbs. when we adopted her. As it turns out, she definitely had not grown into her paws, lol. She is now 90 lbs. and has grown into her paws. We found out that she is not a shepherd mix/mutt. She is a black mouth cur, and she is her mommy's girl. She is now a year and a half. Thank you for the best pup ever!

I would give this ZERO stars if I could. My fiancé and I have been interested in adopting a cat for a while now and decided to drop by to look at the cats. We walked in and were “greeted” by a very rude lady. She seemed absolutely disgusted and confused by why we were there. Very snobby. She asked if we had filled out an application and we said no because we just wanted to look. She was very very rude and condescending. I would understand if we weren’t allowed to bring one home the same day….but why would I submit an application for a cat I’ve never even seen or met?! We would have provided a perfect, loving home, but clearly this humane society does not want this for their cats. I’ve lived here for 20 years, and this is the WOST humane society experience I’ve very had in this area. I’ll stick to the Gaylord and Petoskey humane societies. Do not waste your time here.

Absolutely disappointing to work with. They have a ridiculous adoption policy. No one is on the same page there. It seems like they have ZERO organizational skills there. They want you to adopt a dog and when a great adoptive family comes along they run them through the ringer. Plus they have hidden policies that apparently other members don’t know about or know how to communicate it. Would not recommend go to this place what a complete let down from the start.

Today my husband and I went into the Charlevoix Humane Society where we were treated extremely disrespectful by the volunteer that was at the front desk. Growing up in the area we would always go to the Charlevoix Humane Society and socialize with the animals there. Over the years we have even donated and adopted one of our animals from there. I can say today, based on the extreme disrespect that we received going in, we will no longer being supporting Charlevoix Humane Society. I would recommend going to Little Traverse Bay Humane Society to adopt or visit the animals there as they have always been and continue to be so kind there.

My daughter found Penny online and told me about her, knowing I was looking for another addition to our family. I went into the shelter to inquire about her and was met with nothing but a professional staff. They are very through with the adoption process, which is to be expected, to make sure every animal placed is going to a great home!! Miss Penny has been a wonderful addition to our family! We are the ones who got lucky when she came into home! I can't thank you enough :)

My dog has been in the facility a couple times now, super friendly black lab who wandered away from home to see the neighbors. When we went in to pick him up the staff was very unfriendly and you could clearly see she didn't like her job! Each time he has been there he had diarrhea for 3 straight days upon returning home. Hello people we pay $40 each time/day so what's the fuss. Act right, and I hope you have the heart to treat him like your own. Grrr!

I adopted a wonderful cat who is older and has had her ears worked on. She is a black cat so I was afraid she would not get adopted by someone else very quickly. I am the lucky one because she is such a doll and I love her very much.

Me and my grandma loves dogs and cats and we walked in and this nice lady brought us to the dog area and this nice woman showed us the dogs she was super nice and friendly she told us the dogs names and a little about them she showed us the dogs inside then brought us outside to see the dogs that were playing me and my grandma walked out and we were shocked me and my grandma has been to a lot of shelters and this one was by far the most beautiful the dogs had lots of room to run around and play and lots of things to play with all the dogs were super well behaved and did not bark a lot they were all super friendly and seemed well taken care of no poop on the ground and the lady that showed us around was super good with all the dogs and super nice to us most people that show you around make you feel akward or uncomfortable talking to the animals but she did not she was super friendly and caring to us and the animals over all me and my grandma were super pleased and happy p.s their dogs are all super cute really recommend they are also no kill -thanks for the great experience-

I will NEVER understand why I cant look at the animals if Im not sure about adoption that same day! In my personal experience it does NOT "stress" dogs out when people look at them! I will NEVER look into adopting from this humane society!!! I highly suggest avoiding this place! The worker was EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional!!! It could have been a great day for one of the animals if I would have been able to look at them! If youre working at a shelter, I would think the goal would be to get the animals placed in a good home! Guess not!
