This store is a destination in and of itself. There inventory is ever-changing with delightful treasures around every corner. My favorite things about the store are their extensive collection of all sorts of pet products, including treats and toys, and the collection of tiny fairy garden plants. I mean, come on!! What could be cuter?

I had such a great experience here. Kelly was so helpful in getting the materials I needed for kid friendly germination kits. I am so grateful for the help I received at H&G. My project would not have been possible without them!!!

This place carries the best of the best in kitchen items. Seriously impressive selection of items you would usually have difficulty finding under one roof. From quality clothing and pet supplies to household goods. I love just browsing this place and checking out the inventory... there's a lot to take in. They have a big selection of plants, bulbs and seeds as well.

Large garden center with helpful staff. Came with questions and left with a bag of soil and more confidence with my plant situation at home. Easy spot to get gifts for the gardener in your family. Plus they have a cute cat :)

We love getting our plants here - everything has been healthy, no issues with quality. Great selection of accessories for patios or yards too; love the bird houses, seed mixtures, and there is a full assortment of pots/stands. Inside they have hiking/camping items for pets and humans. Love this store all around.

Always quality products to select from, I usually go for house plants, pots, or soil. Staff is helpful too, happy to help carry some soil to my car š

Mean, nasty people. They used to refuse fertilizer sales to people who grew cannabis. It was the law at the time, but they took it a step further by grilling anyone they didn't like the looks of, asking them multiple questions about what they were growing.Once the clerk asked me several times, as if I was required to declare what I was growing in my garden. When I told her blueberry bushes, she literally had to call a manager to see if that was ok. I thought that was really crummy. But it shows just how clannish they are

This review is in response to several less than enjoyable visits to this store after Mark transferred ownership. The main store has fewer products I find appealing and significantly unique to merit a visit; but I assume someone who knows what they are doing in terms of inventory management has decided that the real place to make a profit is on the boring clothing line that has taken over most of the retail space. What I cannot accept after frequenting this shop for years is the rude, nay today was absolutely abusive, behavior from the woman acting as clerk in the main store. She is unfriendly, abrupt and dismissive when it is a good day. I recall her snippy response about how people shouldnāt be touching the less than friendly cat Wallace (a full year pre-Covid) which is a strange thing to say about a store animal. But about two months ago when my 70plus mother needed help getting a bale of straw into her car, she acted as if we were out of line and imposing on the staff by asking for some help. She then launched into an unnecessary spiel about the lazy people who didnāt want to work and that was why DownTown H&G was short-handed.This week on Tuesday I went to pick up a couple of clay plant plates that seemed a decent price. When the price was different in the register from the marked price on the item I politely corrected her and was given a nasty, mean begrudging adjustment with an implication that I should have paid the higher unmarked price. I go back there today three days later and the price has not been corrected. And this woman slams the register around and yells āReally?ā at me when I ask for the labeled price when I purchase two more of same item. It is particularly egregious that this person should be so rude because I could easily have paid the overcharge and then returned within thirty days and asked not only for a refund of the difference but the Michigan overcharge law compensation which would easily have maxed out at five dollars each instance.By correcting the problem at POS I was being considerate to the staff and the business owner. As it is I will reconsider shopping at this store ever again. And if the Clerk listed as SMA at 1:24PM on 11/10/2023 is not the store owner or related to the store owner, then it is well past time the store owner sat down and corrected this person about what proper customer service does and does not look like. Being abusive to a customer over oneās own error is definitely not the mark of excellent service. This woman makes shopping at this store unpleasant. Downtown Home and Garden has nothing that cannot be acquired elsewhere if the shopping experience is nothing but unpleasant.

The best place for locally made products surrounding home and garden. Great kitchen products from le creuset, victorinox, all clad, lodge, and many more. They serve good coffee and zingermans bakery products. Filson, stormy kromer, and carhartt outerwear. Bird seed, grass seed, big green egg grills, and a wonderfully friendly shop cat. This is the kind of local store every small town person dreams of in a larger city.

Love this place-- so many wonderful things to buy. 208 is household items, Polish pottery, high end cookware. The big barn is all about plants, any kind of garden need, backyard furniture, wild bird seeds and feeders. Good selection of hearty outerwear and pet supplies.

Exactly our kind of gardening store. With natural pest control options and organic fertilizers. We will definitely be making many more stops here this summer. Also, there's a cat that lives there, how cool is that?

This store is a gem and a must stop for anyone interested in home and gardening. They have everything from birdfeeders to camping equipment and just about everything in between. I canāt get a little expensive for their retail prices⦠Itās a great place to get ideas. Thereās also a small cafe inside and you can spend hours here.

One of our most favorite places downtown. Genuine and warm team of DT H&G makes you feel at home at each visit. They have it all and the best part is that they are super pet friendly. They even have a free snack station and clean water for the pups.

A very small selection of plants. Some beautiful mature specimens. On the expensive side. They have a shop cat.

This review is more for grabbing the attention of the owners or whoever is in charge of plants at Downtown H&G, because actually this place is great, 5 Stars. Great products for pets, cooking, and gardening. They stock great brands. Personally, I love that they have Arborwear clothing, Lodge cast iron cookwear, and I became a collector of Polish Pottery because of this store. So, all that said, there is an issue...STOP PUTTING THE BARE ROOT FLOWERING PLANTS (i.e. Trilliums, Bloodroots, Virginia Bluebells, Trout Lillies, Mayapples, Twinleafs, etc.) ON THE SHELVES OVER THAT RADIATOR. Even if they weren't over the radiator you shouldn't store them indoors. The heat and the light are forcing the plants too early and creating conditions that cause the plants to fail before customers take them home. As well, if the plants are planted outdoors they're shocked by the difference in conditions between Michigan Spring and the cozy confines of Downtown H&G's store. Every year I come to buy these products, they're over the radiator and there's already mold forming within the containers on the rootstock, and plant material that has emerged is beginning to rot. I pick the best specimens available and hope they make it.Solution: Just store them in the drive-thru warehouse area that you all have. It's such a better place to store those items. If I see changes come next year, I will certainly change this review to a 5-Star. Don't let me down DHG!

They get four stars because they have a cat named Wallace who lives in the store (5 stars!) but for the most part ignores your existence (-1 star)

I have been shopping here for years. Owners and employees are welcoming, conscientious, polite, informative and always helpful. The entire store, including parking lots is always clean and tidy. Their inventory is unique, fun and whimsical. Also, they carry your everyday needs. A definite spot to bring your friends and out-of-town guests. Needless to say, love this store!!

Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. They have such a great variety of kitchen gadgets and unique clothing items, gardening tools, pottery, feed/seed, bulbs...however, absolutely laughably priced patio furniture. It's a definite must see spot for visitors and for unique and fun gifts for Christmas or Mothers/Father's Day...however I would never get the bulk of my needs here. Undoubtedly high quality items; but even then, too steep of prices. I still gave a good rating because the store is so unique and fun regardless, and definitely the spot of choice for fall bulbs.

What a true downtown treasure! Home goods, like cookware, rugs, collectible pottery and oilcloth placentas make up some of the "home" products. The "garden" part includes seeds, shovels, watering cans, fertilizers and bushel baskets. Lots of outdoor furniture choices, too!

They have an excellent selection of things for the home gardener: tools, pots, soil, etc. Also lots for people who feed birds. The "home" side of the business has lots for the kitchen or dining room. A small, but good selection of tools for the chef, including a few lines of pots and pans. They are well-known for their Polish pottery.

Great garden shop, where you can find lots of garden tools, plantars, wind chimes, patio furniture and so much more. One of my favorite stops in Ann Arbor. Parking is right on the premise. This place doesn't disappoint, I promise you won't walk out empty handed!

I love this place. Today I bought a hammock, a bar of Dr. Dandelion soap recommended by my dermatologist, a couple of dog toys, a hand painted Mexican pottery grumpy owl garden ornament, and a delicious ginger cookie. Several people assisted us as we leisurely wandered through and all were friendly and helpful. I think I need to return for a wind chime that caught my eye.

My friend and I visited the store this week. They have a nice selection of various items but the staff at the cashier counter are not friendly. The woman who rang up my items did not even make eye contact with me, pushed my items toward me on the counter and I guess when I paused because of my shock, she said "oh did you want a bag?" There was a gentleman who approached us to ask if we needed help and he was very friendly. I think the two women behind the counter were to in to what they were talking about on the computer and I was an imposition. The older of the two then went over to the kitchen shop and began monopolizing the time of the woman who was trying to work in that area. So we decided to move on to Kerrytown.

A little pricey with some things in my opinion, but it is in the city. This place is bigger than I expected and they have a really chill shop cat. Lots of nice garden stuff, plenty of options for seeds and plants, and cool stuff for baking/camping/pets inside. Quick checkout and cool location. Friendly staff too!

I *love* this place. They don't carry everything--instead, they carry their favorite. That is, this place is too small to have 10 different kinds of broom, so they only carry a really good one, which is what I want! Good prices and knowledgeable staff. Great place for birdseed, bird feeders, and garden care.
