I would give this place 10 stars if I could! The owner is so helpful and knowledgeable, the animals are well taken care of and they have a great variety of supplies as well. It's nice to have such a great pet shop here in Alpena!

Karma's A Fish was a godsend when they opened up in this area. It saved me a ton of traveling for my aquatic hoppy. The friendly staff and great selection of fish really impressed me and continues to impress me everytime I go in. Need I not forget about their wide variety of exotic animals as well. Plus if they don't have what you're looking for don't hesitate to talk to Brandon and Shelly they'll order it for you. They took care of everything I needed to set up my 130gal freshwater turtle tank, as well as revamp my african cichlid as well. (See pictures)

They're number 1 in my book!! Always helpful, always willing to look into and order anything needed to care for my bearded dragon! In fact when i asked Shelley about an affordable bearded dragon tank she offered to sell me the brand new one they had in the back room at their cost. Ron had just finished assembling it as it was intended for their shop. They also accepted a payment plan as i couldn't afford the cost all at once. And this is when they inherited a new beardie nephew named Pumpkins. They take taking care of animals serious! I've seen countless surrendered and resued animals at various ages in the store that they take in to rehabilitate and ensure good housing placement, no matter how long it takes. I am very thankful for Karma's a Fish and our area is blessed to have them. I can only hope for great success to keep them thriving in order to enable longevity of their business!! Alpena needs them!!

These guys rock! Love the freshwater selection of fish, shrimp, snails, and live plants. Great prices and friendly staff, so glad they opened up a shop in Alpena and it's right inside the mall. Thanks for all your help guys, looking forward to our next trip in!

Love this place and the staff! The owners and staff are always friendly, helpful, kind, and fair! They are always a pleasure to talk to and have been able to help me with my pets so many times! Absolutely love coming here even just to look at the animals. They are always welcoming and answer any questions I have. They tend to be quite busy which is understandable due to a large amount of companions they care for. I got my ferrets from them and took my friend to get a hermit. There was a time when ferret food was lacking in stores and Karmas a Fish had what I needed. They also discounted me when I bought the last two ferrets in the cage out of sadness for leaving one behind. This place is amazing and they’re very understanding. I’ve never had a bad experience.

Whenever we travel, me and my boyfriend like to check out the various local pet stores, especially aquarium stores, to see what's in stock. Karma's a fish is a diamond in the rough Whenever it comes to the rarer saltwater and freshwater varieties. We were genuinely impressed by how healthy the tanks all look. Its really rare to see such an impressive variety of well maintained, affordability priced, aquatics.

The co-workers there are absolutely terrible. Mean and never have a smile or greets anyone. The animals are cool but customer service was a bust. Never going in to look around again, unless I'm buying something.

I went to Karmas a fish to look for pet rats, and what I found in the store shocked me. They have animals that should not be in the same cage. Rabbits with guinea pigs, bearded dragons with emerald swift. Ball pythons with other ball pythons, hog nose with other hog noses. This is absolutely wrong. The staff was not very nice acted rude. I will not be coming here again. I traveled over 1 1/2 to come here. This place changed for the worst since I was there last.

We got our bird from here. We walked around for awhile checking out the store. All the cages were very clean, had a lot of supplies for animals. A one stop shop for us. They were very knowledgeable and helped us what bird would be best fit for our home and all the supplies we would need.

Absolutely disgusting. Rabbits in with opposite animals such as chinchillas, which a rabbit can kill in a single kick. Not to mention dieses, and different meal plans. I also noticed their selling rabbit treats with corn, red flag. Nice employees, horrible place.

I love these guys! Unlike many other pet stores that I've seen, the animals here are healthy and well cared for. They carry a wide variety of feeder insects and other feed types as well as a ever-expanding selection of enrichment toys for your fur-babies. Anything they don't have, ask. They will do their absolute best to get it for you, without breaking your wallet.

A few years back my family and I came into karmas a fish looking for a mouse to feed to our snake. Less than a day of owning the mouse it passed from sickness (good thing we didn’t feed to to our snake!). We called back to karmas a fish to tell them they had sold us a sick mouse in which they offered to replace the mouse. When we arrived for our replacement we were browsing around and noticed a deceased rabbit in with a few others in a cage. We had notified the owners at which they removed it from the cage a little while after. With seeing recent posts regarding this business, my own PERSONAL EXPERIENCE with karmas a fish and seeing deceased animals while looking or planning to buy, it leads me to think it’s no longer a coincidence. This business has a reputation of selling sick animals and frequently having deceased animals.EDIT: definitely not a friend of that haileys. Her and I have had our differences, were never in any kind of friend groups together and are not friends on social media or in real life. Just telling my TRUE PERSONAL EXPERIENCE. It’s ashamed that the OWNER of such a business would treat a true review this way all because it’s not the one they were expecting out of a review. This is 100% a true encounter I had with your business.No need to try and post reviews to “destroy your business” when you’re doing that job just fine on your own!Thank you

Good, is the only store in the area with a nice variety of pets including tarantulas, jumping spiders, guinea pigs and many more. Reasonable prices and we got 2 Ts, not much info about them but they look healthy. They are not in Google but we found out about it when we ask in John Boys when we had breakfast.

absolutely awful pet store. DO NOT GO HERE!! the reptiles here are quite literally being abused. the leopard geckos in specific are in terrible, terrible shape ): even if they were rescues they are still not using the correct husbandry, lighting, or substrate. when called out, the owner gets extremely passive aggressive as you can see from their replies to other reviews. when asked “what’s wrong with the leo’s?” they act confused as if they aren’t currently dying. the geckos are also being homed together which is extremely dangerous for them for multiple reasons!! to the owners, be more responsible!!!! karma is indeed a fish!EDIT: first of all, how do you know if i live in michigan or not? second of all, no. i am not a friend of jennifer johncock. i literally have no idea who that is. thirdly, you’re making yourself look bad whenever you reply to reviews this way. i saw you told someone that the experience they had was completely untrue. so very unprofessional of you. you are truly an awful business owner AND person who needs to learn how to take responsibility. maybe use these reviews/call-outs as a lesson to do better. as a business owner, a person, and an animal caregiver. thank you.

They are a very lovely family owned business. All the critters I've gotten have been just lovely. The fish are pretty hardy and actually live a decent life span, unlike Big Chain fish, I won't mention names... Their prices are pretty decent as well. You definitely get what you pay for and you are helping a small business to boot :)

If zero stars was an option I’d give you guys that. Your leopard geckos looked absolutely horrible. They were burned, all appeared to have mbd, mouthrot, skin infections, pretty underweight, and maybe even eye infections. On top of extremely improper husbandry. Do better, I’ve seen better leopard gecko care from PetSmart

Love this place. They are one of the only pet stores in Northern MI that carry a big variety of pets and fish... And even some rare or hard to find species! They're always getting in something new. I highly recommend that you check them out!

Best selection of reptiles, mammals, and fish you will find in alpena. They also have a great stock of reputable brands of feed, and care products. Very friendly staff, and prices are well within the reasonable range. Have bought feed, supplies, and animals from them with no disappointment.

My daughter and I absolutely love going in here! They have many animals in there and they are taken care of. The owners are very nice folks and are very knowledgeable! Great prices on things in the store. If they don't have it they can order it. Highly recommended!
