Great deli. All your favorites. I’m partial to the corned beef (available in extra lean as desired) don’t forget the Russian dressing, the pickles, and of course the black and white cookies.Dr Brown’s sodas abound.Eat in or take out. (Btw lots of take and bake goodies here, you could just do your grocery shopping here and live a delicious heat and eat life!)

The pastrami sandwich is big and delicious! Been a few times. Their customer service could use some work though. They don't call the order when you are waiting. And leave it on the counter, yet have a sign not to take it off the counter unless called. So my sandwich was cold. And like most customer service anywhere in America, rude and neglectful. Nobody makes an effort at it.

I hadn't been to Barry's in over 30 years, and I was thrilled to find that little had changed, and it's as fantastic as ever. I had the matzo ball soup (perfection) and a hot corned beef sandwich (whatever status is better than perfection).RIP, Barry. May your legacy live on for decades to come!

I love a place that makes me feel like I'm at home, and that's exactly how I felt here. Our waitress was friendly, caring, and happy to give recommendations. She was pleasant despite us coming in at the end of lunchtime. We split the Rachael (it was large) and it was delicious! I will be returning!

Was my mainstay 30 years ago when I lived in Waban. I recommended it to a friend who lives 15 minutes away for early 6 am breakfast. Most places today open after 7am. He was truly impressed by the service and the cleanliness of the deli… glad to see 30 years later Barry’s Deli is still going strong! Good job!

I recently bought sliced corned beef, coleslaw and potato salad and everything was delicious. Best coleslaw and potato salad around. I was going to buy a pound of chopped chicken liver, but it looked so dark that I decided to buy just a 1/2 pound before buying more for the high holidays. That chopped liver gives chopped liver a bad name. It was bitter and dense and didn't seem to have any chopped egg to lighten it up. They definitely need a new recipe.

I thought waiting 20 minutes for a simple breakfast sandwich was bad! Just to open it and see a cheaply made sandwich.. and hair in the food as well. Be advised before wasting time here.3 pieces of hair found. Absolutely disgusting

Yummy potato knish. Wish I listened to previous review about the chopped liver. Truly awful. Pasty, flavorless and inedible. Threw it away. Will go back to try reuben but never for chopped liver

One of my coworkers brought me to this place. I've been working in Newton for years now and only just found it. The food is absolutely fantastic, and you get a whole lot of it for what you pay for. Staff were very nice and welcoming. They whipped up my take out order quickly even with numerous other customers. I can't recommend these folks enough 👍

Only went into to do massive (3 pounds) of potato salad. My cousin claims it's the best, so I brought to him upon his request. Quick service. Glad to see a small line as thats good for the merchant. Very good take service.

Lovely deli that, upon entering, immediately floods your senses with the intoxicating scent of pastrami and corned beef. Great selection of (delicious) bagels, ready made items like soups and latkes, and desserts. Had their Reuben as I do to judge the quality of any sandwich shop I visit, and was blown away. A++ will be back again soon.

This was our first time there. The waitress was pleasant and helped us choose our sandwiches. The Rachel and Number 2 were excellent. Lean, tasty and very generous portions! The potatoe salad was delicious. We will be running back soon

If I could zero stars, I would. The place is filthy the food disgusting. Stopped to pick up 2 sandwiches. 50 minutes later, I was handed a cold pastrami sandwich on stale rye bread. My partner had a chicken parm sandwich that was also cold and like eating an old shoe. Counter staff was surly. All this for $35. Avoid at all costs!

Best chocolate pancakes I have ever had. The chocolate was perfectly melted and tasted very good. The service was very nice and the only reason it is a 4 star is because the seating was not too great. Otherwise it was a nice breakfast eating in a restaurant tucked in between buildings.

First time back in exactly 40 years (moved to the south and then didn't go back after I moved back). Introduced my wife to Jewish penicillan (matzo ball soup) as she needed some comfort food and a road trip and you can't get it in Concord NH. Plus I needed a good turkey reuben. She also added a 1/2 chicken salad sandwich. Both of us had potato salad. Her soup was awesome. Large chunks of chicken, carrots and celery, homemade noodles and a good size, extremely tasty matzo ball. She is a convert. The chicken salad was tasty and paired with the soup made a filling lunch. The turkey reuben was large, filled with turkey, delicious sauerkraut and Swiss done just right on the grill so you got a bonus fried piece on each half (one of my favorite parts). Even though the potato salad was sweet my southern born wife still enjoyed 1/2 of it and I finished mine and the rest of hers. The 1/2 dill was fresh and crisp, made a great counterpoint to the meal. Can't wait to go back and get a corned beef I just won't wait 40 years.

The customer service here is atrocious. There are are 2 very ignorant men that work here and they have lost many customers due to Jay and Will. The prices are astronomical, you would think that they would be kinder to customers but they are super arrogant and it always takes almost an hour for food. Would not recommend.

I went to this place twice and it never failed to disappoint me. The customer service was very slow and the cashier was absolutely ignorant. I had to wait for 15 minutes just to pay for some small pastries and there was only 1 person paying before me. Would truly appreciate it if the customer service had been better.

I moved away from Newton in 2012 but come home often to visit family and recently returned to spend a few weeks. Barry's in under new management but clearly the service is not the same. Ordered for pickup and was told that I should call again when I arrived because of the pandemic. I let them know I was already on the way, they could bring it out when it was ready and described my truck (why call again less than 5 minutes later?). "No problem... black truck... got it" was the response. So I wait outside and watch orders being run out to cars but after 20 minutes I call (I am literally the only car parked there at this point). The response was a terse "it's been ready, you're supposed to call" to which I described my previous interaction. The food runner steps outside looks me right in the eye sitting there waiting for him and instead of bringing my food he just drops it on a table just outside the door like he tossing his keys down. It was absolutely clear this was intentional to show me his contempt and force me to retrieve it. The worst part is that I paid by card and tipped in advance. $13 for for 2 breakfast sandwiches. I don't care how long it took, that it's pricey or having to walk a few feet to get my food but when you're intentional inconveniencing someone that's about the biggest breach of hospitality I can think of. A big F you to this customer since 1978. I won't be back during this trip or any other time when I visit.

The best turkey sandwich with cranberries ever....ditto cole slaw without too much mayo and not bitter. The best potato salad! Dr. Brown's drinks here too. So many choices of food! Very friendly, efficient and accommodating staff. Will return!

Just paid $12.99 for a tuna melt the size of a postage stamp. Was supposed to be grilled; instead it is burnt (4 large black burns). Regarding the "tuna" & the "melt" there are neither; they did not remember to put any tuna in and the cheese is not melted by any stretch of the imagination. Ridiculous and disappointing....it's a shame because we've always enjoyed the food at Barry's -- for decades -- and love to support a longtime, local small business. I wouldn't write a bad review after 1 poor experience, because I like to give the benefit of the doubt. But unfortunately, today's experience follows 2 lousy experiences with Barry's in the Spring (also takeout; items missing from both orders despite being charged for them. And one of the times, the door was locked and my husband was standing there knocking while 2 or 3 employees were chatting away for several minutes with him in their line of vision. When, thru the door, he mentioned my name on the order, they still wouldn't let him in until they 1st called me to confirm he was who he said he was/that he should be picking up the order -- puzzling & pretty rude).

Went this weekend with my buddies after a 15 year hiatus from it (wasn't necessarily close enough to get to it). Everything was great and I think it might be my favorite deli in Mass now. My buddy and I got the Lox with chive cream cheese and it was extremely fresh. Also took a reuben to go for later and they made sure that they put the sauerkraut and russian dressing on the side so I could grill it when I wanted to eat it and it wouldn't be soggy. I also took a lox to go for my friend and he said it was the best lox he's ever had! Our server, Claudia, was awesome and was super accommodating to everything we were throwing her way. I can't wait to go back!
