I truly enjoyed my first time experience at the Black Dog Bakery Cafe for lunch! The warmth and inviting atmosphere, coupled with friendly customer service, truly set the stage for an enjoyable visit. The unique and flavorful coffee surpassed my expectations leaving a lasting impression. The thoughtful display of merchandise and the dog-friendly ambiance add a charming touch for canine enthusiasts. The classic train car and outdoor seating provide a lovely setting for patrons to savor their meals. The Black Dog Bakery and Cafe is a gem with their deliciously rich peanut butter cups for gluten-free lovers, and irresistible cupcakes and other delicious homemade Bakery items. It's clear that The Black Dog Cafe has earned a special place in my list of favorite eateries.Kid-friendliness: Fun for kids! We brought my little cousin with us of 2 years old and he found a pumpkin he really liked and the ownership allowed us to keep it. Making the black dog a good place for family too!

this place has some realllyyyyyy good coffee and food. its takes a while to make the food but it's delicious. the customer service isn't perfect buttttt it was a busy time when I came. I got and iced coffee with caramel and vanilla and added half and half and cinnamon. along with a ciabatta sandwhich. overall csnt wait to go back. in addition they have quite a bit of merchandise and some products that you buy send money or items to sheltered dogs

If you ever visit Martha’s Vineyard, I definitely suggest visiting the famous Black Dog Cafe. I wasn’t a fan of the wings but the lobster roll, crab cakes and calamari was good. The highlight was definitely the cocktails and the cute mason jars.In terms of decor and ambiance , the space feels homely and cozy with a gorgeous patio. I would definitely recommend coming here for a chill date or afternoon outing with friends or family.The staff was friendly and the wait time was short.

Stopped here on the way back to the ferry to grab a quick bite to eat. I just got a simple grilled cheese and fries. I also got this delicious s'more dessert to go. They have indoor and outdoor seating with an old train car on the property.

The French kiss latte was sweet but yummy. It’s nice to find a decent decaf espresso! Bagel sandwich with egg, bacon, spinach, fresh jalapeños and chipotle aioli was also very good. Staff was helpful and atmosphere was clean and inviting. Great place to catch an early morning breakfast and coffee. Wish I had brought enough of an appetite for some of the bakery offerings. I already regret not buying an apple fritter for later in the day. We will be back!

Went there on a date, we ordered a pilgrim sandwich, French fries, dirty chai with two shots of espresso, and a hot chocolate. We asked for no mayo on the sandwich. There was multiple hairs on the serving tray, the turkey in the sandwich was leathery and felt like it had been left out in a refrigerator for a couple days. They also put mayo on the sandwich, and did not put any espresso in the chai, the server was not a nicest to us, and in complete honesty the setup of the place is not well thought out. The food was laughable at how bad it was and the chai tasted like water. The only thing that was good was the hot chocolate. It was really disappointing how far this place was gone, I love the new look with the bar, but the food and experience was far from acceptable.

This place was disappointing! We'd been seeing everyone in their Black Dog merch all over the island and we're excited to try it out. We had a 50min wait for Avo toast and it was missing the arugula, soggy & greasy. When I asked if our food was coming the server muttered under her breath..." I don't know" after telling me it was on the way out? While the baking looked DELICIOUS the food to order and the service wasn't ideal. Sorely disappointed.

What a disappointment to visit the "new" Black Dog Cafe and find that the food was lousy, the service was poor and the price for 3 sandwiches and water was $70.00 Oh including the $3. uncharge for sweet potato fries. The fish was dry and the batter like an old pancake. The fish and chips came without the chips and I got push back about it when I went back to tell them. Last straw was a road coffee for the boat with lots of grounds in the bottom of the cup! We have been regulars for years and years. The great vibe, the great service, wonderful breads and bagels, cookies, and the lively clientele are all gone. This place has been wrecked by going for "urban" whatever. We won't be back. Too bad.

Laura Beckman came to my rescue with a BEAUTIFUL birch tree inspired wedding cake. With not a lot of notice either because our original cake designer fell through.. and I'm so happy that they did, because Laura blew us all away! The crew there is extremely talented and I would highly recommend them for anyone needing cake or pastries!

Disappointing. Came here on a whim because my usual spot was closed for renovations. Ordered a Pilgrim sandwich and a BLAT. The stuffing on Pilgrim sandwich was burnt to a crisp. Cranberry sauce was nonexistant. And for $14.00 you would expect double the turkey.BLAT was sad. Very little bacon and a very small sandwich for what the price is.Skip this spot and head over to Waterside Market for an excellent sandwich

From rude service, to cold coffee drinks.While I understand the team being overwhelmed, overwhelmed, this is how how it leaves a bad mark.Needing to spell my name 5 times and still it came out a being called Joy.....And to top it off all single use plastic utensils wrapped in plastic to single use plastic covers for covers on the si hole use cups. Cant use your own cup neither unless it is a made in China Blag Dog cup.This is not what I know if local businesses.Will not be back as this was once upon a time a staple.Update - talked to manager, who was wonderful and understanding. We agreed a few tweaks in training and helping staff to share a smile would go ways.So, we will give it another try.

I can’t express how disappointed I am with the remodel at this cafe. I came two years ago when they had a Martha’s Vineyard atmosphere that was well managed and well organized. Since then, they’ve remodeled to a terrible modern design that doesn’t match Black Dog’s brand at all. And the new way the line is set up is just terrible with people having to wait for their drinks/food around others waiting to make orders. A really simple food order, made early in the morning when it wasn’t busy, took forever to come out. Really just a terrible experience with the new way things are designed and I don’t plan to return.

The wait was not bad. But the coffee was. I got a lotte and it tasted like hazelnut flavored coffee. Very watered down. Will not come again as the price would suggest it should taste better. Far better options on the island for coffee in my opinion.

My husband and I visited the cafe today. There were several employees behind the counter talking to one another. We asked a question of an employee, but she could not hear us. Maybe because she had an airpod in at least one ear? We ordered a slice of Blackout chocolate cake. We sat down to eat and got halfway through the cake, when I noticed that the floors around the garbage were absolutely filthy. As I was pointing it out to my husband, I see a mouse peek out from under the garbage can. The cafe was not overly busy and seemed well-staffed, so it seems like it this could have been easily avoided.

If you visit Martha's Vineyard, The Black Dog is a wonderful place to eat. They have a bakery, tavern and cafe. They each feature the same quality and variety. My Mother lived on the island for 32 years and we visited many times. Every visit included a meal at the Tavern or the Cafe. We particularly enjoyed the Black Dog Tavern. It is right on the water in Vineyard Haven.

I’m a fan of this place, however it’s hard to contain discontent when one has a bad food experience. The chicken Caesar wrap was very skimpy on chicken and next to no dressing, and I only asked for no anchovies. It was very dry. It has not been this way before so I was surprised to say the least. The fries are so crispy, having worked in the food industry myself, I can tell the fryolater oil is old as the fries were super saturated with the oil and too crispy, not soft or giving a sense of freshness. When I arrived to pickup the order, I heard one staff person say “oh I hate making hot chocolates” as they made my order for them, and unfortunately this showed as the 2 I had ordered tasted like warm milk with some chocolate flavor added. It was far from hot. It did not taste as great as it had on my last visit. I write this review only because when I spend $35 on 2 meals and 2 drinks, I hope it remains consistently good as it always has. It’s the day after Christmas and this is no judgment of anyone, it was just my experience today. Thanks for your consideration.
