We have used Sunderland Animal Hospital for years for our previous cats and our newly adopted cats. They are always easy to ask questions to, you can always ask for price estimates, and the whole staff clearly cares for the animals. Our experience with having to euthanize our older cat was made easier by their kindness. We trust their opinions which is valuable when navigating several health issues with our animals.

We have had a long and difficult challenge with getting our dog's wound to heal. Sunderland Animal Hospital has been the best at every moment and every turn. The vets are excellent and knowledgeable. And every single other person who works there in all capacities is excellent at their job. Everyone is caring, compassionate, slow when your dog requires a quite, slow and steady approach, and nevertheless efficient. They go the extra mile each and every visit. We could not recommend Sunderland Animal Hospital any higher. They are simply the best vet office in the Franklin and Hampshire County areas!!!!!

It was a very thorough exam and nice vet. Would have liked to have a printout of pricing for the next appointment visit and not email me in a few days, then set up an appointment time. Prices are on the high end but seem to be comparable to surrounding vets in the area. Building can use some updating but was clean and smelt fine.

Just got a new puppy and with both of her appointments so far everyone has been incredibly kind and helpful! I was worried she'd be a bit scared getting her vaccinations and what not but they took such great care of her she didn't even blink an eye. Definitely recommend.

I brought in my 15.5 yr old Golden Retriever Sir Charles into the office for a “sick” appointment today. He’s elderly but you wouldn’t know it. Anyway I called this morning with a problem and I got in a few hours later. Although I couldn’t join my pup into the office the staff was very attentive and quick to get him in for his exam. The Dr. came out for some Pre exam questions and returned shortly after seeing him. I was very impressed with how easy going she was about the treatment plan and conservative secondary to his age. Dr. Klopfer I can’t thank you enough for being so caring.

Always kind. Considerate of my dogs/their needs/issues. The techs are consistently awesome. Compassionate care. Judgement free. Been to a handful of other area vet clinics and Sunderland Animal Hospital has been the very best of the bunch for us.

I have been a customer of Sunderland Animal Hospital for over ten years and a third pet. Everyone there is kind, caring, and respectful. They were gentle with my first dog who was friendly and easygoing, but very scared of the vet's office, really any vet's office (I had brought him to a few over the years of moving)! They were very careful and respectful with him. My cat is the opposite, very social and curious, so we have fun there! Now I am onto my second dog, and she is very scared of strangers. I've learned that ignoring her is best. After this instruction, visits are much better now. She's still nervous, but they are more than willing to work with her and respect my training methods that I bring. They've been great throughout the many years!

This place is the absolute best! The doctors and the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and so kind to me and my dog. While every doctor is wonderful, I want to give a very special shout out to Dr. Carley Speyer. Dr. Speyer has gone so far above and beyond in the treatment of Eddie’s complex medical issues. I have had pets my entire life, and I have never encountered a more dedicated veterinarian! 5+++ stars for Sunderland Animal Hospital!!

Worth the drive for my guinea pigs to be seen. I was listened to about my concerns and the piggies felt comfortable with them all.

I wanted to take a moment to share why Sunderland Animal Hospital is the most wonderful place in the valley. We adopted a puppy and despite growing up with dogs, I had never had the full responsibility of care for an animal. At every turn, from her spay surgery to the weekend calls I have made to ask a question, they have been nothing but kind, professional, prompt and deeply caring about our dog. I feel like I have a partner in getting to know and take care of this wonderful animal. They go the extra mile, always find a way to accommodate a need or understand a concern. They are also clear and direct about everything from cost to scheduling. The app is easy to use, you can chat with them directly and the information is all digitally stored. Need I say more? What a pleasure and good fortune to have this amazing practice near by.

My husband and I adopted an adult cat from Dakin in 2013. He was already an adult cat with a few medical issues…but with the sweetest temperament and the sweetest face😻. Sunderland Animal Hospital was there for us and our kitty every step of the way. Thank you for your great care.

The veterinarian Rachel is a literal Saint. I would recommend this hospital and this staff to anyone and everyone. I really enjoyed the care and the professionalism there. They were so good to my dogs. I wouldn't want to bring them anywhere else.

Amazing staff, most friendly vet we’ve ever had. We are so grateful for all of the love they have for our pet and for us! Very knowledgeable and we never wait when we have appointments set. Thank you!

Dr. Ellis and his team are kind, professional and caring. Our dog has had several medical issues and Dr. Ellis is available, informative and responsive to us and our dog! We have had three dogs in the past and as such we have had a good deal of experience with veterinarians, Dr. Ellis has been the kindest, most available and professionally knowledgeable of them all. We are grateful to be able to count on him and his staff

This was our second time here. They've been very efficient and extremely nice, both with the check in process and with the discussions after exams. Everyone we've dealt with seems to genuinely care about our cats, which is a huge plus compared to some of our past vets. They've even started sending out digital questionnaires before appointment day to help speed up the check in process. Highly recommended!

I believe it to be the best animal hospital in the pioneer valley based on my experiences there and talking with friends and neighbors who have all had exceptionally great visits. I've had my dogs seen there, and others I know have had visits with their cats, dogs, and various small animals. I've had mixed experiences with other vets in the area over the years, but only positive ones here. It's one of the few businesses of any sort that, if pressed, would have a very difficult time thinking of anything that they could do differently or better. Both Dr. Ellis and Bentley are excellent, along with every staff member that I've met there.

We needed a second opinion on our 10 year old pup-and they were able to set up an appointment the very next day. A lot of vets aren't taking new patients right now, so we were so grateful. The detail and care my pup and I both received was not only deeply comforting, it gave me hope! I got a lot of practical advice, which has really helped, resources and a path forward. I went from thinking our pup was in her final days to thinking she really might thrive for the 4-5 years more her breed typically has. Even if that isn't so, I know we have a new Vet practice that will make sure whatever days or years she will still be here, she'll be in the most caring hands. Thank you!

I have been taking my pets to this practice for at least 15 years and I am so happy with the treatment, consideration, cheerfulness, help and sympathy of this practice. I cannot fully express how much Dr. Ellis and his staff have been so supportive and helpful. The facilities are always very clean. I highly recommend this practice to anyone who needs good people and care for the furry friends in their lives.

I have nothing but praise for everyone at Sunderland Animal Hospital. I had another pup who received care prior to losing custody of her in a divorce. The staff was always so kind and caring. She had lots of issues as she was a tripod pittie mix who had allergy problems as well. I was always informed as to what had to be done immediately and what could wait a bit as I was recovering from back surgery and a serious Traumatic Brain Injury.I have another pup now and she also is seen at Sunderland Animal Hospital. Once again, I have nothing but praise and gratitude for the treatment she receives whenever she is seen. Marley is a bit of a troublemaker when it comes to having her legs, paws, and face touched. She can be a bit of a nervous nelly, to say the least! The staff has never tried to force Marley. Now she always gets the chill protocol and I (think) she’s well behaved. At least I hope so!As a Traumatic Brain Injury survivor, I am so grateful that I’ve never felt shamed by the staff for the things I have a little trouble maintaining, like Marley’s mats. I have a lot of dexterity issues and although I’ve tried myself and had friends help, we can never trim the small beard dreads poor Marley occasionally gets. Whenever I have inquired about needing help trimming her I’ve been embarrassed and feared the staff might believe I’m not caring for my pup properly. I was instantly relieved with their kind and compassionate response to my inquiries.I’ve seen a couple reviews that have not been pleased about response times and wait times. If anything, it takes me far to long to respond. As far as wait times, personally I would much rather have to wait a bit and know the staff are taking fantastic care of ALL the animals being seen then rushing folks in order to stay on time.My apologies for the lengthy review. But I can’t say enough about the amazing care my dogs have received by both Dr. Ellis and Dr. Bentley. A huge thank you to all the staff for all the hard work you do. Sadly I think the general public may forget that veterinary medicine is not always puppies and kittens and that you all choose to do this emotionally draining work. You are all fantastic at your jobs and I for one feel so lucky to have the privilege of having my Marley cared for by such wonderful individuals! I always feel confident that any staff member who comes in contact with my beloved little trouble maker will treat her as I would, with patience and compassion. You’re kindness does not not go unnoticed by Marley and Me. Thank you!!!

Dr Ellis is wonderful !!!!! I’ve been using him for years for my dog Jake and now he has helped my boyfriends dog misty ! Treated an eye infection that was not treated well by the prior vet and her arthritis has been well managed now ! She’s turned a corner and doing great ! Every time I’ve been panicked —— the office has called me off hours and spent time talking to me. All the vet techs are super nice and wonderful / loving ! Wouldn’t recommend anywhere else to go !

After Koonie's yearly check up and vaccinations he was returned not feeling well, as expected. My experience is that lasts 36 hours or so. Well, it's a week now and he still isn't well. His energy is low and he still has trouble getting up stairs. After reporting this situation the staff has been lackadaisical in their attention to Koonie. After calling the office about the situation I still had not received a return phone call before I called again 24 hours later. Finally Dr Ellis called and promptly fired me as a customer and told me to take my broken dog to another clinic without so much as trying to fix the situation. Sunderland Animal Hospital has a lot of great reviews, and I was one of those for 4 years. Something happened there. Of course, I have no idea what that may have been because they don't allow pet owners inside the office! The lesson: if you have a problem with how they treat your pet, you may be fired and told to take your broken pet somewhere else.

We are so grateful to Dr. Ellis and his wonderful staff. They gave us excellent care and advice for our goldendoodle, Becky. As Becky aged and then her kidneys were failing, we were very torn about what to do. Dr. Ellis gave us intelligent and compassionate advice. His knowledgeable recommendations made it possible for us to come to the right decision for Becky. We will forever be grateful to Dr. Ellis for coming to our home and helping Becky and us say goodbye in the kindest and most gentle way possible. Thank you Dr. Ellis and your wonderful staff.

Veterinarians are wonderful. The staff is wonderful. They are very caring and knowledgeable ,,compassionate, friendly; you can ask them anything I've brought all my pets there over the years and they know their medicine absolutely recommend them and they are affordable Dr Ellis and Dr. Bentley have different bedside manners but have the same results when it comes to your pet care. Both are wonderful doctors it's just a matter of whom your pet prefers.

Every single person in this office is AMAZING. My dad has been going for years with all of our family pets!!! Most recently we had a litter of puppies that was our first and only. We were very stressed, nervous, and very full of questions and concerns! Every one from the front desk, vet techs to the vet were so amazing, helpful, understanding and patient with us!They go above and beyond caring for your pet. My dad has a medical condition where I have to assist him a lot but still foster independence and everyone in the office understands and always calls, emails or checks in when I follow up with additional questions, concerns pr even just clarifications on things already explained to him. This is truly an amazing office to bring you family pet because you become part of their family and they truly take care of you as such!

The staff at this facility are fantastic. The veterinary technicians are the best in the area. The doctors are also fantastic. Prices are very comparable to surrounding competitors. Fantastic property and extremely easy to navigate to being just off Route 116 past the intersection and Sunderland. Plenty of free parking, off-street, that is. Wonderful outdoor area to stretch your legs and allow for your pet to alleviate themselves. Conveniently provided poop doggie bags in a canister outside on the edge of the grass with a fantastic container to place your used baggies in. All very clean, very streamlined.

I have been taking my dog to Dr. Ellis since February and have never had such a pleasant experience with a veterinary office before! Dr. Ellis and staff are patient and clear when answering questions. I believe them to truly value individual care and take the time to make you feel like more than a customer. Highly recommend this office to any pets in the Pioneer Valley.

My two cats used to be patients here and the service was wonderful! The place was clean and nice people in the hospital. Even though we moved away, they are still able to provide rabies certificate for my cats which is huge help for me. Highly recommend.

I believe the veterinarians may be knowledgeable, but the customer service at the front desk is lacking. I am now waiting in week 5 for a test result that I was told would take 2 weeks. I was brushed off when I asked about it & when I asked them to call the lab to check on it, I was told they'd have to talk to the office manager and see. It is 4 days later and no phone call. My cat is having trouble breathing, so every day is a struggle for her. Lack of communication between the front and technicians has happened before also. It's very frustrating. I don't need someone to just act friendly, I need them to care enough about my pet to follow through and not make me feel like I am a bother.
