I was there for two weeks on August several years ago. I love antiques, and staying at this historic site was a big treat for me. I discovered several wonderful t ful antiques which I had mailed to my home, and I enjoyed walking around seeing vintage homes, and in a sense, noting how lovely that time had slowed down in this area, at that time. The dining room was an old-fashioned treat, and the food was excellent and very fresh.I also loved having tea on the nice wide porch with the really comfy rocking chair... I LOVE rocking chairs...it was a memorable time. The pictures here show me that much has changed since I visited. It seems to have expanded and modernized somewhat. The Norman Rockwell Museum was so close by, it was enlightening to visit.I hope many of you will decide to visit this place...for me it has b beautiful memories 💖Rooms: The room I had had an antique decor, which I loved. It was comfortable. There was an elevator, but I preferred to walk, as I don't like elevatorsThe room was air-conditioned.The area was entirely safe, and I perceived no physical threat of any sort. People were friendly, and the atmosphere was charmingSafety: I walked about freely both day and evening and was comfortable psychologically, as Inperceived no sense of threat to safety.Walkability: I had no car, and I walked everywhere...I saw vintage homes, and visited antique stores, and the museum next to the hotel...it was a wonderful place and a good experience ❤️

I stayed at The Red Lion Inn on a whim and was very happy with my decision. I booked the reservation on the same day as my arrival and the woman on the phone was very helpful. When I arrived to the hotel, she has upgraded my room to a king sized bed (likely because it’s still the slow season). I really appreciated this, and it’s the little things that a lovely hotel like this does that makes it so special. Unfortunately I had to check out a day early, but I can’t wait to go back to Stockbridge and stay at The Red Lion Inn.

A great place for lunch. We ate traditionally “Yankee” cuisine which was very hearty and delicious. Pot roast, turkey club sandwich, salads, etc. In a historic building with a really antique elevator.

We had dinner here for the first time, despite living not-so-far for 35 years. The experience was positive but suboptimal.Good (not great) food (portions smaller than expected) and good (not great) service. Decor is 1960's country inn, which is welcome and expected. It was peaceful and welcoming so we did have a pleasant meal, but $350 for 4 people seems a bit much.

This review is focusing on the restaurant only, not the accommodation. I didn't want to have to write it, but I feel compelled after not receiving a satisfactory response from hotel management. My mother and I took my father to the formal dining room in November to celebrate his 85th birthday. The night of our dinner was quite cold outside and still, with little wind. When we entered the Inn, all of us were surprised by the heavy layer of fireplace smoke hanging in the air in the lobby / lounge area. (This was both visible in the air and also obvious to the nose.) Both of my parents have lung conditions - and thus they cannot tolerate smoky air. We assumed that the restaurant would be tucked away somewhere beyond the reach of what is essentially pollution, but of course that's not the case. Our table was situated close to the "archway" that divides the lounge and the dining room and we smelled the smoke throughout our meal because it kept wafting in. Perhaps a flue wasn't being used correctly, or maybe this issue was due to the lack of wind, but it made our dinner difficult to enjoy. It was moot to ask for a different table, as the smoke was throughout the whole restaurant, as I discovered when I used the ladies' room. We skipped ordering dessert because we wanted to leave as quickly as possible to avoid breathing the smoke for more than one hour. When we returned home, my hair and dress smelled like a campfire. Now, as someone raised in Western Massachusetts, I understand the "charm" of fireplaces for tourists to the area, but this wasn't acceptable, especially considering that unpolluted air is just an expectation for a restaurant experience.I sent an email to the hotel to voice my complaints privately, as I wanted to avoid writing a public review. Simon, the General Manager, tried to call me at a time when I couldn't answer the phone, and so he emailed me. I tried to call him back and couldn't reach him, so I emailed him. Some weeks passed and I didn't hear from him. Nothing has been done to resolve this matter. I realize that the holidays are a busy time but all of this occurred prior to Thanksgiving and now we are over one week into the new year. The experience itself - along with the "false promise" of being able to speak with Management about it and then nothing coming of it - has soured my opinion of this place, which is a shame because it's a Berkshire institution.

Very nice old Inn. Loaded with atmosphere, antiques and charm.Restaurant is very nice food is good. Staff very friendly. After lunch or dinner you can relax by the fireplace in the lobby. Make a day of it and visit the Norman Rockwell museum - very worthwhile. Also stroll the many shops in the town center.Nearby activities: Lots of curious shopsNoteworthy details: Norman Rockwell museum

We traveled here for a long weekend, but didn't stay at the hotel. We love this time of year at The Red Lion Inn and had lunch in the dining room. The Red Lion never disappoints, and we have been coming here for many years!!! The Christmas tree and fires in the fireplace are amazing! They do a great job with the outside decorations, too!Food & drinks: We ate lunch in the dining room, and Godfrey was our server. He was fantastic!!! The 250 Signature Cocktail was excellent! The short rib mac & cheese was delicious, as were the fish & chips. We look forward to our next visit already!!!

Very nice experience at The Red Lion Inn; food is amazing in both the main restaurant and pub; live music on the weekends in the Lions Den with a sexy “speakeasy” feel. Staff was friendly and helpful all around; the Inn is an authentic vintage Inn with a lot of charm; front porch was a nice relaxing spot to have a drink. However, our room was not in the main building which was more than disappointing; and although our room was charming, it was in a completely different building- not what we expected and not what we paid for.Nearby activities: Not much to do in the town; it’s quaint, but only a few places to show and/or get coffee. Great Barrington nearby with a bigger downtown and more places to shop.Food & drinks: Food is excellent in both the main dining room and pub.Breakfast is also offered.

Among the best known luxury hotels in the Berkshires, the Red Lion Inn is traditionally said to have begun as a tavern in 1773, making this year the 250th anniversary of the inn. The property is filled with antiques and has an eclectic gift shop. Plus, guess can relax on the expansive front porch.Nearby activities: Plenty of history and culture to discover in the area.Safety: Super safe at any time of day.Walkability: Highly walkable area with wide sidewalks and plenty of other tourists.Noteworthy details: The current owners, the Fitzpatrick family, have run the inn since 1968 and proudly claim their business to be “the last of the 19th Century hotels still in business in the Berkshires”.

Disappointing Experience: The hotel fell short on multiple fronts. Poor customer service, a lack of basic amenities, non-functional outlets, and a staff that was regrettably rude. Considering the price paid for the stay, the experience did not meet expectations. Improvement is crucial for a satisfactory guest experience.

We ate dinner at the restaurant and was handed one menu....come.to find out we had to ask what the other food dishes were on other tables...our waiter informed us that was a different menu that we had to ask for....Before we ordered I asked of there was any specials....Ypu should treat every customer with the same menus. That is just taking advantage of the tourists for not knowing to ask for the pub menu...

Lunch at the Inn was superb. Excellent service and food was so flavorful. Charming 250 year old setting. Lobster roll was the best I have ever had.Food & drinks: Menu is small in the off season but restaurant was full at lunch and everyone seemed to be enjoying.

The manager is not a nice person unless you’re rich. I am a disabled vet and at every opportunity during the booking I asked about the military discount and was told it would be adjusted on check in. It was not and condescendingly she said her hands were tied. If that was true and she really did care about making the situation right she could have made up for it in so many ways, a voucher for the gift shop, dinner on the house, a coupon for a stale bagel, but no I spent as much money as anyone else and she was keeping it all, the inn is something to see just don’t stay there, especially if your a veteran.Rooms: There isn’t a single line that is level in this hotel, the rooms are very clean but the beds hurt, your getting gouged for the history

We often come to the Berkshires and eat at the main dining room at the Red Lion Inn. For over 12 years we have enjoyed their food and service. Last night we went to the restaurant for the first time in 4 months and found they completely changed the menu, offering only a limited menu and a smaller dining room. The new menu was not only limited (only 5 Entrees) but no salad as an appetizer and everything was extremely pricey. They did manage to get me a green salad (from the bar) with lettuce only and Champagne vinagrette for $15 and for my main course I had the Monkfish for $36. Basically 6 ounces of fish with a little bit of Cous Cous. I went home hungry after spending NYC prices. The food was definitely good (fish was cooked perfectly and, well, how do you mess up lettuce?). I was very disappointed. After going to this restuarant for over 12 years, we will spend our money at one of the much better choices available in the Berkshires (we love Salmon run and Alta).

Always a must visit during ski week in the Berkshires. This historic Inn has a great little bar to share stories with other patrons and on busy nights another speakeasy bar below to listen to musicians play and groove to.Noteworthy details: Historic

I gave my son and daughter-in-law a gift certificate for a wedding gift. They stayed one night in October 2023 and found the mold in the ac was so bad they couldn’t use it( have pictures),they were on the 3rd floor. The bathroom shower leaked, mattresses were dirty and general condition of the Inn was obviously in poor condition. They didn’t even feel comfortable to dine there. They did tell someone on check out but no amends or even an apology.A significant balance remains on the gift but they will not be returning!! They (and I) are extremely disappointed and upset with the management They didn’t want to tell me due to fact it was a gift.

Overall it was a good experience. For a 3 star hotel it is on the pricey side. Food choices were confusing, for example, you can get the Tavern menu along with the fine dining menu in the main dining room. The lions den bar also offers a limited menu. Very quaint downtown. I would skip the chix pot pie, it's really an appetizer sized entree.

Do not book this hotel if there is any chance you might have to cancel! We booked in June for 1st week in Dec but due to unforseen issue we cancelled in Nov. As per they're website refunds should be returned according to how you pay. They lie! I spoke multiple times to Sydney, she claims a manager, and she said she can only refund my $450 by check even though we paid with a creditcard.. what?.. we'll I'm waiting for that checks "in the mail" for weeks now. Worst customer service.

This hotel is not customer friendly. We were supposed to travel there in July and due to an unforeseen event that was beyond our control we had to cancel. It was five days before our stay. The hotel refused to cancel our reservation and charged us for our one night stay of $635.00. This was just part of a bigger vacation and the other hotel cancelled us because of weather and their closure.

Menu and food quality in the dining room were not up the high standards we have come to expect from past visits. Tavern menu and food was better.Rooms: Large room with comfortable king bed and fold-out couch. Microwave and fridge.Nearby activities: Just outside of downtown. Restaurants nearby.Safety: Good lighting in parking lot. Room keys needed to access pool and fitness room.Walkability: Walking distance to pizza, Asian and grill.Food & drinks: Great hot breakfast. Nicely prepared and supervised.

RESTAURANTOur grand-daughter, food critic for her school newspaper, summed it up: this was the worst fancy-expensive meal I've ever had.The inn and dining room are beautiful and historic -- worth a visit. Trouble started with the maitre d', who first tried to seat our party of 6 at a table for 4. That was quickly corrected, however. The wait staff were very nice and friendly, but clearly stressed and working above capacity. The special were not presented, there were long stretches between courses, and our bread basket ($3!) never came.As for the food:The good: Our grandson said the smashburger was the best he's ever eaten (and he's eaten many). The bouillabaisse was excellent. Apple pie was generous and good (not great), warm brown sugar cake was interesting and very tasty. Coffee was good. The bad: the Caesar salad was limp with too much dressing, main courses seemed to have spent far too long under heat lamps waiting to be brought to the table. The pork chop was tasty but desiccated, prime rib had a discolored dry sheen on top, tofu vegetarian dish was inedible.Verdict: come for dessert and coffee to enjoy the ambiance.
