Very nice place to shop. It may not have everything I need, but plenty to select. Lots of fresh sea food and very nice prices. I give it a four only because the customer service was not very friendly when I applied for a membership card.

I will give this a place of zero with the new manager in town he thinks he's big boss and then he called the police because they told my 14 year old daughter that she can get groceries at 8:59 p.m. and then they lied and then they want to call the police to back them up instead of owning their mistake he wanted to act tough and tell me oh it's not his problem and uses the police as his own protection and the southbridge police backed him up so you wonder what the policemen fund is used for. Business owners donates to the policeman's fund for their own protection they don't care about customers. His name is Bernie. And he is very unprofessional to be putting a 14-year-old in fear for her safety. He shouldn't even be a manager the way he acts.

Always clean! Quality produce and deli meats. Love Big Y pizza. Staff is always so helpful and go out of their way to help find items. Love the smiles and friendly service from the cashiers. Cashier, Eva, is very sweet, friendly and always gives off positive energy. A definite keeper!

Pretty good super market. Nice and clean. Great selections. Prices were good. Self check out was quick. Still not used to having to have your own bags now though.

I am in disbelief!! I went to customer service area to ask for the most simple request. I have a $1 coin. Susan B Anthony coin and I needed quarters. I can not believe the person behind counter (Payton) told me they don’t take dollar coins. R u serious? I’m soo irritated, this has got to be a joke. Wish there was a option for Zero stars cuz that’s how I feel my experience was worth.

Went in for fish for dinner. They are the only supermarket I buy fish from. Their dept never smells dirty and that's a plus for me

I don't live in Southbridge so I don't shop at Big y regularly. I had to stop in on my way home from somewhere to get a couple of things. However, I got to the self-checkout and I explained that I'm not a regular shopper here and I don't have a store discount card. I asked if there was one I could use or if there was a way to apply for one on the spot. And the self-checkout lady just looked at me like I was making a weird request, and said flatly, "no". LOL honestly I could have laughed because it was just so bizarre and such bad business. I am so grateful don't live near one of these terrible stores and I definitely will not be stopping here again.

I go to this big y often as it's on route from work to home and it's not bad and there stock is decent. It's a very clean supermarket and they have a pretty young crew of cashiers who are very respectful and friendly. The reason I gave it 4 stars as opposed to 5 is 2 reasons. It's a bit expensive in my opinion and the worst is the location it's in as it appears to be near some kind of sewage area and the smell outside more often than not is GOD AWFUL!!! Thank God that smell doesn't eminate inside the store itself!

The prices are relatively high, but I like going here because it isn’t usually too crowded. If I need to do a big grocery haul, the prices would be enough motivation to go somewhere else. However, I must say that I like how they’ve set up their checkout queue in light of the virus. I’ve gone to other stores and they’re not nearly as organized at the checkout area. Also, they’ve got a good bakery and nice floral department.

I am disabled and cannot shop for myself. It would be really helpful if your store did delivery. As it is I have to depend on others to shop for me and this is so inconvenient. I've had trouble with Instacart shoppers pilfering my orders and would prefer to use an in store delivery but there are none offered in this area.

Never been to any of this chain before today; staff was very rude. Had to walk up to a cashier standing at the end of the checkout and ask if he was open to get any sort of acknowledgement. Response was a simple “yep.” And then literally not a single word beyond that, including a total or asking if we wanted a bag. Funny story, they charge for the bags, which isn’t weird, but when nobody asks if you want one, it’s easy to assume they’re free. Was promptly told off by another cashier for trying to “steal” a paper bag. Won’t return.

Clean; well-stocked; great service; excellent: produce, deli, meat & seafood selections (always fresh); carries organic & glutten-free selections; great sales & seasonal items; bakery, floral & party size pizzas available; would give 5 stars if rating on quality alone. The only draw back, I feel, is that the regularly-priced merchandise is up to $1 or more per item, when compared to other stores in the area & that adds-up quickly when shopping for a big family. I understand the need to charge higher prices if a company is providing a higher-quality facility, product and/or benefit package to it's employees, however, that may or may not be the motivating factor in regards to pricing. If budget was not a factor, I'd shop at Big Y everytime, due to high quality, selection & convenience. FYI There is a water treatment facility near the store that often emits a pungent odor, however, it has nothing to do with Big Y and you cannot smell the odor when inside of the store.

With supermarkets in general, it's a bit of hit or miss. Big Y is no exception, but they seem to have very nice produce, which is something we value highly. Shelves are well stocked and staff is helpful and friendly. Of course, having to go to more than one supermarket to get everything you want is a real "first world problem". We're lucky to not live in a food desert.

Pizza used to be great now small and dry no sauce why!! Stop buy big y to day self check out is a joke the person in charge very slow maybe ignoring me manager came over to help me 10 minutes later I will not return not my first bad experience need new stuff after 20 years very sad!!!

I complained about a dog in a carriage and the person at the service desk just looked at me like like I was wasting her time considering I interrupted her chatting with another coworker in the deli.I know they aren't gonna follow the person out and make sure they get that cart to clean it properly.Service animal or not IT DOES NOT BELONG IN A GROCERY CART.I wonder what other sanitary standards they don't enforce.

this store is a surprising step down from the Big Y of Spencer. Although they might have great deals, the character of their employees is beyond questionable. Their employees choose to spew hatred and ignorance with zero regard for who may hear them, customer or employee. Often we would hear about their disgusting behavior so my family avoids the store all together. I felt the need to share this as either a warning for respectable people or free advertisement to entice the ignorant.

Shopped here for the first time today. The execution of the COVID protocols was very well organized. Clear aisle markings, speedy checkout with an employee directing customers to available registers, and an employee thoroughly sanitizing carts with a sprayer and sanitizing wipes. I felt very comfortable shopping here.

I am editing my review because they have self check out now. One extra star cuz the customer service is still extremely atrocious, but it is easy to take things without scanning. Nobody is paying attention whatsoever or doing their job.

Parking lot smells so rancid I immediately vomited upon opening my car door. It always smells bad here but not usually as bad as it was today. Someone needs to do something about this

I worked here when I was a teenager, I called out one time out of the 6 months I was there because I had a severe panic attack. My boss at the time (Laurie at the Deli) made fun of me to my coworkers (she did that often with others as well). The next day when I went to work, they were all staring at me and asking me what a panic attack is and why I had one. I was so embarrassed and felt like a bad worker. She broke the confidentiality law a few times. Tammy(Deli/Bakery) is also known for saying rude things about elderly whom she knows is deaf, right in front of them. Also, I got a laceration on my finger at work one time, and Laurie cut my hours discretely because of it, I told the hiring manager this and Laurie got pale and denied cutting my hours. My mother works in Human Resources and made me aware a few years later that this was illegal. Can't do anything about it now, so I figure I'd leave a review. Everyone else was extremely nice and the company itself is extremely clean. Just make sure you don't get taken advantage of if you're a young kid!

Very clean, but I absolutely hate it that they don't give bags for free. You have to buy an 11 cent paper grocery bag (that destroys our trees and is not environmentally friendly to produce) or an expensive hard plastic bag that is not biodegradable. Both are not environmentally sustainable, if this is the reason why they don't give shopping bags. The prices are very high and they do not offer a lot of organic sand healthy choice options, even in the produce section. I avoid this store as much as humanly possible.
