The owner of this shop is great. He makes himself available over the phone and in person and has such a clear and evident passion for animals. This is a somerville/Cambridge gem.Today I bought some decorations and plants for my new nano shrimp tank and he was SO helpful and nice about it. I’m excited to know I have a local spot that I can rely on for great advice and great, caring pet supplies.Thank you boss!

Purchased a chinchilla and all the extra $600 later the chinchilla passed away within 14 days. The owner tells me too bad no return on anything. Let me help please go see this pet shopAll Things Aquatic LLC I have purchased thousands of dollars with them, look me up Axolotl_breeding on instagram. Everything you see there came from them. I lost a couple of pets and they would be empathetic and gift my family a credit. Big fish won’t he’s great at apologizing one of the best. But when I asked him to tell me that in the hole for $600. Your time and your money will go much further than Big Fish little Fish. He definitely lost my support and I have purchased many fish from big fish little fish. About $1,200 so far. Don’t make the mistake I made. I’m call the better business bureau next. I don’t want him upsetting another child. I didn’t need the money but talk to me about a credit or something. I’ve been coming here for the past two year of college and got my emotional support fish from here my freshman year of college. Humphrey is the healthiest Betta I have ever had and every time I go back for advice he’s so nice and helpful. He gives good advice for tank mates and plants as well as products. I also just go in to look at the animals as I miss my pets at home and he always is kind and lets me see the animals. I love the chinchillas he had this week and he showed my friend and I how to give them raisins. Love him 🏽❤️

If you love Axolotls, Nanofish & Shrimp this is the place!!!🌊🦐 Wide variety of nano fish, hard to obtain drawf shrimps and exotic rabbit snails/ pagoda snails. Big chain pet stores like Petsmart and Petco never sell nano fish and always disappoint me with small selection of tissue culture plants. I really want to see this local fishshop prosper because they're so unique and underrated. Thanks to this shop my aquarium I started three years ago looks amazing.

I have been visiting this store for years and it is one of the few local old school pet shops left in the Greater Boston area so it’s great to support. The owner is so kind, very helpful and the care he bestows upon his animals is very evident. In the past he has given me food to feed his reptiles, to feed his parrot. Real animal lover; such a great place.

I got another betta fish and all the materials for it from this cute store for my son’s new school, and the owner did not disappoint again! This was my second purchase from this store. The owner is very well informed, super helpful and does not really try to hard sell anything. He also showed the snakes and turtles to my son without us even requesting, and my son had an amazing experience. I also appreciate the reasonable prices at this store compared to other big stores or even Amazon. Highly recommend it!

Purchased a betta fish just before lockdown. Compared to chain stores, the bettas at BFLF swim within roomier and aerated tanks. We really enjoy our vibrant and interactive betta.

Came back again and we got a beautiful ball python to add to our growing family. The owner as always is so kind. We always leave there learning a lot about the different kinds of animals he keeps. This is the best pet store around. Here’s a picture of the day we fell in love with “Ghost”.We also have birds (conures and parakeet/budgies) that we have gotten from him and I had meant to leave a review before that he also offers boarding services! He’s watched our birds while we have been away on vacation twice before and they were well taken care of and given their favorite fruits and vegetables while we were away.

I have been visiting this store for a few years have a 35 gallon and a 10 gallon aquariums. The owner is a local from the area and is knowledgeable about fresh water fish, reptiles, rodents and birds. He is helpful with questions over the phone and in person.

I tried to purchase a betta fish here (one that looked like it could use some TLC). I innocently and briefly mentioned to the man behind the counter that it might need some TLC (hoping he would maybe give me advice) and the man got defensive and aggressive--repeating over and over again "I don't sell sick fish" and "Don't buy it then!" I remained silent, apologized, and he only got more aggressive. When I said I'd be okay with purchasing it anyways, he asked me what size tank I'd be using. I had a 10 gallon tank cycled and ready at home with plants. He immediately told me that the fish would be 'scared' of a tank that size and that bettas prefer small 1 gallon bowls.This is just bad advice. Do your research before shopping here. Bettas should be kept in 5 gallons and up. Contrary to what he told me while I was there, wild bettas don't 'live in puddles' as a choice (though they can survive in them). I came into the store hoping to support a local business and seek advice of the owner. He was extremely rude and I walked out in tears.Don't shop here!

Guy keeps fish and other animals in good conditions. It's a small store so it's smells a little. Animals are healthy though. You will learn way more about your pet fish there than any PetSma4t or Petco store. Highly recommend.

I just stopped by here for the first time and my visit to the actual store was fine (if you ignore the clear animal neglect and generally dirty conditions), but, even worse, the product I bought was totally faulty. I bought a light bulb for my reptile lamp that had gone out. When I got home and put the new bulb in the lamp, it still didn't turn on - so I came to the conclusion that the lamp dome had gone out, which seemed early for how long I have had it, but not impossible. I ordered a new lamp on Amazon (mind you none of these reptile supplies are cheap) and it just came today. I plug the new lamp in and put the new bulb in and still nothing. I am momentarily in disbelief that Amazon sent me a faulty dome, but then have the idea to try out one of my normal household bulbs that I knew worked, and it turned on on the first try (unfortunate I didn't think to try this with my old lamp BEFORE ordering a new one - it just didn't even cross my mind that the new bulb could be the issue). I finally came to the frustrating realization that the bulb I bought from this shop didn't work, even though it was supposed to be brand new. So not only am I now stuck with no working bulb, but I unnecessarily bought an entire new dome because it turns out the first one still works. Upon further investigation the new bulb I bought looked like it could have been used: it has scratches all over it and is discolored in some places. I don't know if this is the shops fault for selling me a used product that didn't work or if the bulb was just a rare dud - but I have had reptiles for years and have bought many MANY bulbs from the same brand and have never had any issues - so I'm not sure what to believe. All in all, it just left a bad taste in my mouth.

I have been getting pets here and food for those pets and I love it. It always has good Service and the environment for the pets is good. The owner at the time has a great deal of knowledge of the animals that her sells. It is has a great variety Of fish and reptiles to choose from. So that’s why I like going here for pets I need or want and the necessities for them.

The owner asked about how I keep my fish in details and give useful advices without trying to sell anything to me. Helped a lot! Will come back if I need any supplies in the future!

I asked the owner why my betta fish was stressed, and he told me it was because his tank is "too big". I have him in a 9g tank, and the owner "informed" me that he would be better off in a cup. Anyone who knows anything about fishkeeping knows that this is total BS. It seems like this place used to be a decent store but it's gone totally downhill.

One of the oldest pet shops around and still one of the best funny educational easygoing guy a gentle giant runs the shop great with kids my daughter and I walked in there and was greeted pleasantly showed us around talked about different animals walked along with us and made us laugh will always come here first when looking for anything in Massachusetts regarding fish bird life prices are reasonable I remember coming here as a little girl and it almost looks the same even though it's change owners it feel good to have the same type of Love passed on to my child childhood great guy

I love this store and the owner. My kids, who are almost nine love animals and are very good with them. Anytime we go my boys always have tons of questions and the owner is always full of knowledge and so patient and kind. We have been wanting a bird for a while so we always come by to check them out to pick the right one for us. We just got a green cheeked conure baby 3 months old. The baby has been hand fed by the owner and is so so loving and sweet. We've had the bird for 1 week now, it's been wonderful and is definitely a family bird. When we have come in the past there was another bird we had fallen in love with and almost got. He always tells us the history of each bird and which bird would be good for families etc and would let us hold them. It is always a great experience. Thank you! And Abu the large Macaw is hilarious!

This a great shop. The older guy in there is a wealth of knowledge. For the people who claim this place is dirty it is absolutely not. There is absolutely no bad smell and all the fish are in extremely well kept tanks with well established denitrifying bacteria, healthy live plants, and appropriate amounts of alge. For the people who complain about his "old school knowledge" the man absolutely understands the science of keeping fish and is well up to date on it. I went in to get some malaysian trumpet snails and ducksfoot and ended up going back to buy everything for my 10 gallon setup. He has personally helped me every step of the way and has gone above and beyond. I have also been asking him questions based on the research I've done and he is completely open to everything I say and has done nothing but help educate me and provide me with exemplary customer service. I drive a distance to go here because it is an amazing local shop. Go to this shop if you want a great experience, it's as simple as that.

I go here all the time!!! This place has basically everything I need for my fish. The fish at Big Fish, Little Fish, are very healthy. The staff works very hard on them. You won't see a single dead fish floating in the water like you do at Pet Smart. The staff is very nice. He will give you tons of tips and explain in detail what to do. He knows A LOT about fish. There are other items at the store for dogs, cats, birds, small rodents etc. The birds are always chirping their hearts out. The rodents are also taken care of very well. There is also a population of reptiles at Big Fish, Little Fish. They range from snakes to turtles. There are lizards and newts. Although it is a small store, every time I go in there, the guy is very helpful and tells me lots of information. It's a local pet shop, not a chain, so support it!!!

The kind gentleman at the counter is very knowledgeable. My baby bird was barely moving because it wasn't eating for a while. The gentleman fed it himself, instructed me how to feed, and sent us off with extra formula. We're lucky to have him in the neighborhood.

Excellent. He knows his animals very well. Even though we put deposit down on a cockatiel he still gave us advice on what to look for when buying one. Very wise on what animals need. He told us our cockatiel was hand fed, tamed, n friendly. Well he was 100% correct, after 1 day the bird was part of family n only spends sleeping in cage. Highly recommend

Saw some good reviews and decided to check it out. Not that great of a store really. The guy seems nice enough but the store is very messy and in need of TLC. The tanks in the back are all messy in some way or another. Not saying he doesn't take care of his animals, but it didn't seem like he had enough help to keep the place in good order. One of the leopard gecko cages also had a ball python in it, which is just a bad idea...Honestly if you NEED to go to the pet store, then go here but otherwise, try somewhere else.

I had originally bought my new fish tank at petco but they didn’t give me enough information on how to have a successful heathy happy tank, so glad I came here to get essential knowledge and gear for my tank. now I’m more excited than ever for my tank and the happiness of my new fish.
