Service was good, the ice cream was good as well. It was a bit slow and busy when we went, and thr prices are a bit high. I would go back. Not much parking, but it's very easy to walk around. There's a parking garage nearby that isn't too expensive.

Very cute ice cream shop, you can tell they are very proud of the renovations they did. They have a wide variety of flavors. I got the vanilla soft serve with hot fudge which was good, but not as mind-blowing as I had been told it would be. Maybe I should have stuck to the hardserve ice cream flavors instead.

Herrell's made it into the Yankee Magazine as one of the 36 best cream shops to visit in New England. I had been here a few years ago but couldn't remember much about it. Once we got into the shop we figured out how to go about ordering some scream. There were plenty of workers behind the counter. After we worked our way into the service line a nice young lady asked if she could help us. She took one order and was off to make it. Another server came and asked if we were all set. I told her some of us hadn't ordered yet. She said we would have to wait for our original server to come back for the other orders. People behind us were passing us up as we waited for more orders to be placed. The roped off section was pretty tight, so there was a lot of elbow rubbing in there. After we were all paid up, we found a small table inside and and ate our ice cream. I had whipped cream and a cherry on top of my sunday. The chocolate fudge was nice but there was not nearly enough to satisfy my palate. The whipped cream must have been all natural because it had zero taste and didn't stand up well in my dish. The servings were overpriced for the size. This place didn't bring back any old memories but it did create one that will have me going elsewhere the rest of the summer.

The prices are astronomical for the portions, I would not agree w/ the one "money sign" shown. But it's good ice cream, lots of cool flavors & service was great & quick.I had the Caramel Cow flavor w/ hot fudge, it was delicious so I highly recommend that ! 😋

Traveled from Florida to visit Family, we stopped by here for some delicious desert and the sizes are worth their price! All the ice cream is locally homemade and served with love. This store had a back entrance from Thorne's -- an underground shopping plaza (which goes up three stories). I enjoyed my visit to Northampton Downtown and Herrell's Ice Cream & Bakery.~Today, I got a small cookies & cream dish with rainbow sprinkles, and I took my delicious time with each bite with the wooden spoon that is provided. Great area and I would visit again next time I travel!!!

I have been going to Herrells for years. I found out this past September that I have Celiac.I have visited 4 times between then and tonight they have always been great. However, I went tonight with my daughter in law who is also Celiac. My 1st and 2nd choice I was told very rudly that they were rotation flavors and not available. We were made to feel that Celiac was a bother. It was not until we ordered our third choice that the server said ice cream flavors are on the website. I was limited since I gave up chocolate for lent. I checked, and the website site makes no mention of rotation flavors not being available for celiac. The website did say Kosher kitchen. She then said the ice cream maker was on vacation and school vacation was too busy yo keep up. I tell everyone to go to Herralls. My husband buys me gift certificates for Xmas. I won't be back rude and very disappointing.

Herrell's is a good ice cream shop with some flaws.The ice cream is good, not great. They have a nice array of flavors but it doesn't taste any better or higher quality than store bought. Hot fudge, whipped cream and homemade sprinkles are top tier. When they get it right it's the best sundae in the area.Herrell's prices are high. You can get a sundae that's about twice the size and generously loaded with toppings at half the price at a bunch of other places in the area. The other local spots also have better service and atmosphere but most are only open in the summer.Waiting in line and ordering is confusing, not because of the menu but because the line curves around the shop and there's not a spot designated to order from. Service is usually slow and/or they're short staffed. I don't blame the staff for their poor service as I'm sure they're underpaid and not treated well by the management. You're also unable to tip the staff if you pay with a credit card which is unfair.The inside of the shop is small, poorly decorated and in rough shape yet they have a poster celebrating their "renovation" in 2016. It could use some updating.It feels like Herrell's is coasting off their reputation while their product, service and experience are falling off. I hope they make some changes. It could be better.EDIT: I went to Herrell's last weekend and had a much better experience. Service was great, they had plenty of nice staff and the sundae was excellent.

The ice cream was good, but the portions for the price is astronomical. Very disappointed by the pricing because I wanted a decent sized ice cream but it’s so expensive. The kiddie size an unfortunate buy. I think they could do better with portions and prices. Service was great and I had a great customer service experience, but prices are crazy.

My husband was keen to get ice cream here, because he and his family were into it. When we got there the line was long, but I figured it would move fast since it’s ice cream, and it did! The place is a well-oiled machine. I had classic cookies n’ cream and it was great, it had a lot more cookie cream filling than cookies and creams I’d had elsewhere. I really enjoyed it! My husband had date almond halva and he was really into it.

Each time we visit Northampton we try to stop at Herrell's for what we consider New England's best ice cream. Herrell's is one of the several reasons we are relocating from eastern Massachusetts to Northampton in 2020. The last two visits to Herrell's it was Malted Vanilla for me. Wow!

Portion sizes really need to be bumped up, you receive a miserly amount for the price which leaves a bad taste in your mouth despite the high quality of the product. Nobody likes feeling ripped off. Even figuring in inflation/cost of ingredients, the price to quantity ratio is not at all in line with competitors

We have enjoyed going to Herrell's to get delicious ice cream for years! For our daughter's birthday this year, we ordered a unicorn/rainbow ice cream cake. The cake was absolutely beautiful and super yummy - and everything our daughter could have hoped for. She kept telling us how much she LOVED it...made all of her birthday dreams come true!

We hired the Herrell's Ice Cream on the Moove Trailer for our wedding reception and it was a huge hit! We chose not to serve cake at all and no guest was complaining! They all loved the ice cream and everyone took full advantage. We were able to offer a variety of flavors and toppings and all of our guests enjoyed the unique idea. Judy was also quick to respond to emails and she remained flexible when the count of our event changed multiple times (due to COVID). We would highly recommend Herrell's for your next event!

My partner had been hyping up this place for quite a long time. He can be a bit of an ice cream connoisseur, but he grew up in the area and even with many other creameries around, he said this was his favorite and most nostalgic one for him. He has the book written by Mr Herrell himself, and even had a t shirt for this place that he wore when he brought me here. I'm from the West Coast and this was my first trip to the East, but he had been telling me about this place the whole time we've been together. I was thinking it was just nostalgia and it being nearby him that he kept hyping it up to me, but boy was I wrong. For context, I typically like ice cream without all the added stuff like sprinkles, chocolates chips, cookies etc. I just want to enjoy the ice cream without the other things in it, unless it's maple, pecans or walnuts. I love those. Herrell's had many options and I couldn't choose. However, when I saw peanut butter, just peanut butter ice cream by itself which for me is damn near impossible to find, I had to try it. I love peanut butter. No added chocolate or nuts or Reese's pieces etc. Just plain peanut butter ice cream. Hands down, it actually was some of the best ice cream I've ever had. It was delicious, and most importantly, so thick and creamy. You could lick it and it will absolutely keep its form of where your tongue left it slicked up lol. My boyfriend even explained Herrell's method of creating ice cream of not over stirring or over whipping it so that it could keep its texture and creamy consistency. I tried his sweet cream flavor as well and a few others and they were all really good. This place is definitely one of my top places of favorite ice creams. Prices were great too and lots of indoor seating. They also have little baked goods on the side. 100/10 will be coming back here for sure my next trip out east.

For me, Herrell's is one of the few constants in a downtown Northampton life that has changed so dramatically - both for me and the town. These days, ice cream is not on my regular diet but when I am able to indulge I will be at Herrell's. It is wild to think I once applied for a job there, but I always liked the vibe there and post-college it seemed like a potentially nice option for a while, if it had worked out. I am especially partial to the double thick shakes, as well as the malted shakes. The creativity applied to the flavors, as well as consistent quality - it's pretty amazing that has held up for decades now in my experience.

Herrell's ice cream is a tradition in this traditional New England college town - and for good reasons. The ice cream is top quality and delicious. Maybe I could complain that there are too many appealing flavors, making it hard to choose. The centrally located shop is attractive, and the staff are friendly & helpful. Could I have another scoop, please?
