I'm not a fan of rating places like this. This is a solid neighborhood hardware store much like it's neighbor in Florence. They have an impressive selection of neighborhood hardware store stuff. You're not going to go here to get wood You're not going to go here to get appliances but if you know what they have you know why you love them. All I would say is wander their aisles and decide whether you want to drive to Hadley.

Been shopping here for 25 years or more and they always have the best selection of nuts, bolts, and small hardware around. Good finish, paint, tools, and household supplies too. A gem of a store. I would recommend that they find a warm and bubbly customer service manager to take them to the next level, as the general complaints can be that they are not the friendliest or inviting to those who are not already regulars.

Very helpful! They had what I was looking for, suggested a few that I forgot (driveway poles), and made keys for me.

I’m delighted to have found this place. It goes on forever! They have an amazing selection of everything from key designs to home goods. Everyone is helpful and knowledgeable. The key department is top notch in efficiency, pricing, options, and willingness to answer all my questions. I’ll be here all the time now!

This is hands down the best hardware store in the area they have just about anything you could need and the employees are very helpful except the cashier's everytime I go there always have what I need but I dread checking out very miserable people and it's not just once but everytime I go there and don't ask them for help all u will get is a dirty look like they are being bothered or they are on there cell phone and will ignore you til there phone call or text is complete but otherwise great store

I've been going to this store for 15 years. As a hardware store it has a great selection. Nonetheless I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of times any employee has asked me if I need help finding anything. And when you track down an employee it's as if it's an extreme burden for them to help you. It's as if they would prefer you go to a box box store or go order it on Amazon rather than help you. Unbelievably enough I've had more employees at the Home Depot in Amherst say hello and ask me if they can help me. And I can also affirm that anything having to do with a key or programing a vehicle key is also a difficult situation in this store. I've always wondered why in a time when hardware stores are closing right and left how the owner of this store lets this situation go on?

One of the older guys was kind of rude when I asked about a certain bolt with a certain thread but I brushed it off because the store literally has every different kind of bolt, screw, nut selection you can think of. Better selection of specialty fasteners than home depot.

They have a lot, and most of the time I get what I need!EXCEPT, I'm NOT looking for that RUDE ATTITUDE!!..Even from the cashier (heard her mumbling)I asked about a bushing, a yes or no question...If you hate your job that much (to the point that you are rude and nasty) QUIT!!!!!.........NO ONE WILL MISS YOU!!!!!!..........I will never go back, and I'm sure you have lost more than just me as a customer!!Good luck.....Just remember you're not the only hardware store....Rocky'sHome DepotLowesOnce again,Good luck

Staff was very helpful. I had been to both home depot and Lowes with no luck. The gentleman who helped me today, solved my parts issue in a matter of minutes. There is something to be said for an old fashion hardware store.

well I can't speak for the whole hardware store, but I had a great experience with the locksmith here. I had heard that you can get car keys, electronic car keys, copied for relatively cheap. my Toyota key would have been $375 at the stealership. I called this hardware store and they said it would be $325. well that's not much cheaper. but I had bought a blank key on eBay and I didn't have time to program it myself let alone in danger my laptop with the virus late in software that came with the programming cable. I asked the guy if he could use my blank key and he said yes! he said he would give it a whack. and he did and it worked! the point is is that she was willing to try unlike many other true value hardware stores who refused to use my key. he was very proud of what he did he showed me his locksmithing diploma. he said he'd been programming car keys for 35 years. really nice guy and he saved me about $160. a great experience all the way around.

Very knowledgeable staff. You can find things you need that the big box stores don't have. Quality and personal attention is better. If they don't have what you need on hand, they can order for you. You can also shop through their on line service and it will be delivered to the store. They also make some deliveries . They have an excellent lock shop as well.

As I'm driving up King Street and slow between lights I have a YES moment. I need a drain screen & a Christmas present security box and I am right next to Foster Farrar. I park near the entrance, enter & staff show me various First Alert products. I found the one I had in mind. That was easy. Next drain screen. That was harder as there were at least 7 options. Which one? At the register I paid same price as big box, did not have to traipse a big box, parked close & back in my vehicle within 15 minutes. Foster Farrar is packed with hundred of items that you've been looking for. Easy park, helpful staff, incredible inventory, key shop, local, yeah... 5 stars

Great hardware store has the tiny nuts and bolts and garden products, can make keys even for newer cars, paints and so much more. The owner is friendly and helpful.

I assume those who reviewed customer service here as being "excellent" were all men---maybe that would help, but two different employees treated my mom and me like two little ladies who were in way over their heads, and basically refused to sell us 4" long 1/2" wide bolts. Sir, I measured, and that's what I needed. I know how to measure and everything. We were excited to try to this place out, but won't be back, and I'm heading over to amazon to order my bolts. I'd give zero stars if it were possible---there are few things more irritating and degrading than men acting like I couldn't possibly know what I need to repair my barn.

Have gone there many times over the years, though not frequently. Have never had a problem getting service, and never found them to be rude. Sometimes one has to wait a bit for service, but that's true most anywhere. Their prices are a bit high, but they offer a senior discount on many, though not all, items. What I dislike most about the place is getting in and out of their parking lot. There is a steep up/downhill to King St., and if I don't exit at an extreme angle, my somewhat (but not very) low bumper can scrape the ground. For that reason alone, I'm not crazy about going there.

A lovely small local hardware store. A little room for improvement: it would be great to be able to online order, or even just see what they have and prices before going there

I was looking for a leatherman tool, and was delighted to find Foster Farrar had a variety from which to choose. Also, my staff person was kind, patient, and knowledgable. He let me know that they could order any model not in stock. Fortunately, he had a model that met my needs. Highly recommend the store - feels good to support a local, well-staffed business!

Helpful, great service! After not finding a lamp part he needed on line, my husband suggested I check out Foster Farrar when I was in Northampton. They didn't have what we needed but the owner suggested a fix that worked. I'm impressed with his willingness to help a customer with a small sale (<$3).

Technically functional but customer service leaves much to be desired. They have a deep stock of metric fasteners and a fairly good array of home electrical supplies.

Great hometown service, this store rocks. It's easy to find someone to help and the people are very knowledgeable. Yeah, you might get it slightly cheaper at superstore, but how much is customer service worth? And besides, they give my dog biscuits when I come in!!

This place must be THE LAST shop with hundreds and hundreds of drawers full of all kinds of little things. This modernized old school hard ware shop is great and the people there are good, regular people just like you and me. It's a smaller shop so the proces are not as small as some places, but you also get treated like a human being...

Purchased locksmith services, rekeying and new locks for home. Kevin (the locksmith) was very friendly and professional. He explained all options thoroughly and didn’t pressure to purchase anything. All the locks were installed and working in excellent condition. I highly recommend them for locksmith services!

I went in to get a spare key made. The cashier directed me to the key room. There was no one there, and after waiting a few minutes, I called to a passing sales person. She grumbled that she was tired of making keys, and that the guy who was overseeing the key room was out to lunch for another 20 minutes. She went on to complain that she wished in paints and was not good at making keys, that one guy was out sick, 2 were on vacation, and that meant only one key person on. Since she had already said she wasn't good at making keys, I said I'd wait. After several more minutes, the cashier, seeing I was still not being helped, asked why. I explained what had happened. The cashier was surprised and annoyed, and spent the next several minutes calling on the loudspeaker for someone to come. All this time, the grumbly paint salesperson kept muttering that she wasn't going to make me keys. Finally someone else came and helped me. I'm giving 3 stars only because the cashier worked so hard to try to get me help.

Shop local. This place is great. I go here frequently and they always have what I'm looking for. Quick in and out. Not like big box stores where you need to walk around for an hour just to find a sales associate.

A true old-school hardware store with a little bit of everything. The folks who work there are so knowledgeable, and I always have fun browsing.

I live very close to Foster Farrar and go there a lot. The staff is really mixed, some are very good but some are not. As others have noted some just don't seem to want to give me the time of day though I have been going in there for years and others have no idea about the products they sell. A few, on the other hand are very knowledgeable and nice. That accounts for some of the disparity in the reviews here. You get used to it over time and learn who to talk to. Really, in the end it's better than someplace like Home Depot where you can never find someone and when you do their from another department than the one you're in.Shopping there does save me trips over the bridge to Home Depot or Lowes, they have a great selection of screws, nuts and bolts and pretty much most of the stuff I want when I want it.You can also, pretty easilly, get an account there and be billed monthly which saves a lot of time.

I needed to return an unopened item with the receipt. I asked to return it and the cashier snapped, "NO" and then proceeded to refund my money. The staff are very knowledgeable but can be very rude. I had one staff member keep laughing at me because I was asking her questions. Another one had the same attitude, and I wasn't asking dumb questions.

Went to get my Nissan GT-R key fob programmed there. Al got it done using a "Advanced Diagnostics Smart Pro" programmer. No locksmith in the Keene NH area had the ability to do it. At $65 saved me a lot of money and time. I got a genuine Nissan fob online for only $100. So saved around $300 by not going to the GT-R Nissan dealership in Manchester NH. They can also dimple cut your blank if you have your key code. Saves you from having to get it from Japan. Two 👍👍
