A not-so-large place that actually amazed me with the variety, quality and uniqueness - Ukrainian, Polish and Russian authentic food products are offered in a great display, and the staff is truly professional, friendly and helpful. If you shop here you would not regret - it is fun! And... very tasty afterwards.

Seems like a nice hidden gem of a grocery store. Fresh produce and a lot of unique foods you won't find at big box chains.

There's not as much Russian food as I was hoping for, because of all the natural, conventional American, mid-eastern and central European groceries. They have some produce, prepared eastern and central European foods (both fresh and frozen). It's fine for a neighborhood market, but there are better Russian grocery stores in the area, so it's not a destination.

The old deli vibe is gone, and the new vibe of half-liquor store, half-convenience store is unappelaing

This is a great place for lunch, you can get a chicken dinner for less than $10. They have the freshest salads of various kinds. The have a nice selection of wines and baked goods.

Waban Market continues to improve every year. It's gone from being a sleepy and somewhat rundown neighborhood grocery store into being a legitimate gourmet food, wine and beer store, with surprisingly good produce. They have a great selection of Russian, Eastern European and Kosher foods, as well as grocery staples. And their wine and beer selection is top notch for such a small footprint.

I had high expectations after reading the reviews, but those fell short. The choice is poor and all cheap brands. Many products are near or at expiration, also I accidentally bought spoiled sausages - the sticker was washed out (don't know on purpose or not). There are definitely better Russian groceries in the area.

Great place! Friendly, helpful stuff, good selection of groceries, deli items, fruits, vegetables, cooked dishes, sweets, and wines. And they do great catering, as well. I ordered food for my birthday party - it was a tremendous success, everybody loved it!

So far the best Russian food store in the Boston area. All usual Russian products are in place, but the real thing is their bakery. Gosh, the last time I tried Napoleon cake this good was my grandma’s. Bread is very good. Knishes (aka pirozhki, pierogi) - absolutely terrific.

I've been going there for years and it has always been full of kind people and great food! Wonderful vegetables and impressive fresh-baked bread. And, at the peak of the COVID lockdown, the Waban Market was the grocery store I felt safest going to. Very grateful to have this convenient and reasonably-priced grocery store!

I want to share how much I appreciate this store's dedication and service. Yesterday a young woman was in charge of our order. I think she MAY have been the owners’ daughter. She was so thorough, took the time to call for substitutions, was fast and accurate. All produce was carefully chosen ( I had requested some ripe bananas and avocados as well as unripe produce). In a city where too many people take for granted the time and consideration that goes into daily activities, I felt it was important to post my gratitude.

Waban Market is the best! We are so lucky to have them as a neighborhood market for convenience and good food. The store owners Yan and Irina are caring, dedicated people and responsive to requests to stock different kinds of food (vegan items). The prices are also better than other markets in Newton! We love it and feel so lucky that that they are here!

I love the people who run this place. Even though I speak not a word of Russian, they're always pleasant and honest (unlike their very unfriendly competitors over behind Needham Street). It ain't Whole Foods and they won't win any decorating awards, but prices are very good, I can usually get what I need including excellent wines, and I don't begrudge giving them my business as I do W.F.

I started coming in here with some of my clients that wanted to do shopping and was very intrigued with all the warm, friendly atmosphere the building and people gave off. I had to look at everything, can't read a word in Russian but, that hardly matters! If you can't tell by the package then just ask anyone. People are always glad to help - maybe not all the customers - but the wonderful people who work there. When my son came home from college I had to bring him over there and he immediately went for the beef knishes, then we selected a couple unusual fruit boxes like birch and Whortleberry to name a few.I love their pocket bread above any other place also - huge, tasty, fresh, out of this world delicious! Now that I am alone I'll buy my groceries there and get a special treat when I reach about $50 they give me a large Russian chocolate bar free! Who else does that? No one! They love me, and want me to know this! lolMy son goes there now that he's home for the summer and enjoys selecting different items to try as well. He loves that Waban Market makes so much of their own food items right there and that's what he goes for.We are so close it only makes sense to shop where we feel welcomed and can walk easily too.I love the cashiers! Always friendly, helpful, and never once acting lie I'm putting them out of their way. They explain all the Russian items I ask about and will make suggestions from what I try to explain. They're always right on the mark! I love this hidden gem!

A great little independent spirits and grocery store that's looked almost unchanged for the past 45 years. The prices are a bit high, but lots of interesting russian specialty products and deli goods.

For great homemade fare (try one of their homemade knishes, a container of store chicken soup, or delicate crepes), delicious salads (with homemade dressings - the arugala is particularly amazing!), made-to-order quality sandwiches, spectacularly priced wines/liquor, and chocolates, as well as, quality produce, definitely swing by the true mom & pop shop, Waban Market. This store also offers lots of unique items, i.e., terrific fresh bread, Italian cookies from a Boston Italian bakery, and specialty European goods that also are terrific. This unassuming old-fashioned market earns customer allegiance, with great customer service, intriguing product offerings, and home-made kitchen offerings.

Google should created negative stars because if anything this store deserves its negative stars! The desserts they sell are stale and old. Most important the people that work there are extremely rude. Not worth giving them your money. Stay away.

Fresh salads. Always amazing. Stuffed peppers are out of this work - vegetarian style no meat. Pleanty of options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner to go. They have everything you'd need.

Food is very good. The lady behind the counter very very rude. I’ve been going there for a long time and always. I try to avoid the lady behind the counter because she’s always always rude.

If I could give you negative 5 starts I would. The older lady in the deli section is a liar, we asked her for some directions and advice what to buy.She sold us stinky hot dogs and other food which impossible to eat.It just to far for us to drive and return what she suggest to buy. Sheshould be a shame of herself but people like herself never do.
