When I was gifted the knowledge and privilege to taste authentic Jamaican beef patties I was too young to understand them or how to eat them. A good friend of mine taught me how to walk into this humble establishment and how to even act when I approach the Lady at the window. At first glance this place doesn’t look like much but as you very well know I’m not one to judge a place for their aesthetic. Instead I took my cues from an expert who knew exactly what he was doing when faced with the dilema of ordering at this restaurant without clear view of a menu in sight. Today I strutted myself in there and walked up to the window greeted the lady and asked for a Jamaican beef patty with Jamaican cheese and a small grape nut ice cream. You can’t come in here and not try their delicious ice cream. Go for the authentic grape nut or indulge in something devilish like the double rum raisin made with Jamaican rum. My dear friend used always get his patty sandwiched between two slices of coco bread.

I only go for soup coco bread/beef patties and ice cream and it's good..but today I went right before noon and got a patty with cocoa bread and cheese and the cocoa bread was definitely stale the cheese was just placed on the bun instead of inside the patty which would have been just luscious you know.. I don't know what happened today hopefully it's just a day and they'll be better tomorrowUpdate 9/9/21I went to get a patty coco bread and cheese.. I was second guessing because I didn't want to have the same experience..but I didn't and It was good.. I also realized that the person who heated up my previous patty overheated it #dontdothatNever again.. 4-4-24Ordered chicken soup.. we t I went to taste it all I taste is spice but that wasn't the real issue. The fact that I received a pea sized piece of chicken made me upset.. especially after spending 7.00 bucks.. I called and told a womeuthe issue,she was nice.. told me to bring it back & so I did. When I got in my car I opened it and was even more disappointed ☹️ I don't even know if it was chicken she gave me (I'll post Pic when I'm able) just horrible.. the food game is going down fast..if the Passion is gone #retire

Beef patties here are the best. They have many flavors which is not served at other places and both their spots are usually on point. If you are in the mode for ice cream, go for the grapenut ice cream, you won't regret it. In the photo is the curry chicken and beef patty (darker yellow patty)

My patty was excellent; but, the customer service is atrocious. Still confused why the short lady, with the bad eyebrows, serving ice cream was laughing. The patties and ice cream can be excellent however, you can’t run a business on continuous ignorance.

No goat and that's only thing I eat out of there. A wasted trip I was disappointed 😞. Person bought me ask for something never heard of Jamaican cheese on beef pattie on coco bread 🍞 and lady was outside begging so she went into place and I asked what she wanted it was oreo ice cream got that for her. So disappointed between this west indies eatery and ali roti which I called seeing didn't have goat at this place, ali roti was all out of shrimps roti. So that night I just went to bed starving because I craved this west indies food and was disappointed 😞 by both places sad thing I have to ride two towns over to get this type of food. This place goat is so tender unlike most places. The other west indies place on river street next to mbta Station 🚉 in Mattapan was closed. As American I'm going to look up how to make goat and go to tropical Market for them to chop and small bits. Goat is expensive and it's worth the trip but won't waste time will call again disappointed they don't have curry chicken breast and I certainly don't like nasty wings of any kind fried, stewed or cury only white meat will do for me.

They specifically gave me the oldest fish patties knowing they would be hard and greasy. I'd suggest going elsewhere for proper food.

I’ve gone to P&r for years they’ve always been rude but it’s something I just looked pass. I went and got three patties and a medium ice cream the ice cream was freezer burnt when I asked if I would be able to switch it out they told me the ice cream couldn’t be freezer burnt because they just got a new freezer I open the ice cream and showed them the lady behind the counter than said she couldn’t exchange it due to covid. So I paid $5 fir two scoops of ice cream that were freezer burnt they could have easily threw the ice cream away and given me another flavor but it’s fine I plan to take my business elsewhere everyone makes patties :)

Granted, it was close to 11 at night and it was the beginning of the week for there weren't many choices. But I promise you I will not choose this one again. I have been eating here since this was jolly time, if you know you know. This was my second time in the last six months both times were horrible. I wonder if Paul still owns this? It must have left that family, because the quality has gone down dramatically also the service. $21 for an oxtail plate has to be the most expensive oxtails on that side of the city. How can you have under cook rice in a warmer? Just Add Water it will continue to cook itself LOL. I can't believe I'm giving this restaurant cooking instructions on their Google page. But somebody must do it!

Always a good place to eat and find good food. Patties are always on point and the cocoa bread is fresh. Good Ice cream sampled the Ginger flavor recently. Barbeque chicken was my least favorite, everything else is a go for me.

Called in to see if P & R had chicken patties available, because the last few times I came in they didn't have any available. Usually I order 12 at a time. I was told by an employee the last time I was in to call next time before I come in. So I called in as I was told. Ask the woman that answered the phone if they had 12 chicken patties available. She told me she had 10. I then asked her to hold them because I was parking the car, the person on the phone told me that they don't do that because they don't know who I am and she hung up on me. I walked in to her talking rudely about me to another employee. If I could give no stars I would. Worst customer service. Beware!!! I will find another place in my community that sells chicken patties and appreciates the business.

I love this little spot! The service is okay, and there's always a line which I sometimes can't understand why, but the patties and ice cream are worth it! They offer a variety of patties, my favorite being the curry chicken, which can sell out easily. They also have veggie, jerk chicken, spinach and cheese, and of course beef, which I've heard is kind of spicy? Any of which can be accompanied by the traditional coco bread and cheese. They're ice cream is super and includes West Indian favorites like grapenut, rum raisin, and stout! The fried chicken is pretty good too sold as a plate or side order. I haven't eaten any of the other food offerings to entice or discourage so......

So, let me start by saying, the beef patties here are the bomb!! So good. Now, the long wait and the service is another thing (hence the 3 stars). I was there Saturday and witnessed one of the ladies working there be really rude to a customer. If there are no customers coming to your establishment, your business will be done.

The staff wasn't friendly, the atmosphere inside the building isn't welcoming, they also like to rush you to buy/order something you can't even gather your thoughts or asked certain questions smh. The rice is either under or overcooked and the oxtail needs more flavoring. Buttt! The ice cream is what makes me want to go back. If they work on those things it would be an awesome restaurant.

The cooked dishes are off the charts delicious. Pastries just like Yard. People go there for takeout not eatin. It is what it is genuine hot, delicious Jamaican cooking.Features: Distance from counter maintained. Sneeze guard for food items. Cashier station behind sneeze guard.Employees all masked & gloves Ventilation maintained.No eat in options. Order to go.

Stopped in to get a quart of rum raisin/ grape nut ice cream combo surprise for mom's birthday.Mom enjoyed the treat but expressed that the inside was hollow. I did not pay attention while they were serving so I guess I will if there is a next time.

Went for Jamaican food, did not try their ice cream. The location is a bit on the sketchy side, the place isn't that great to look at, and there is no A/C. The food however, was very good - I feel that the quality of food would suffer if the place was more appealing - it makes this more a secret than a well-known place everyone knows about. The pattys are very good and so was the Jerk Chicken which fell right off the bone. Prices were extremely reasonable too

Wow, I have been to several if not all the Caribbean restaurants in Boston and must say that P & R is by far the best. If you have not tried their rum & raisin ice cream you’re missing out on an exceptional flavor. Even in the height of a winter storm I have braved the Boston weather just to get some grape nut ice-cream, another awesome flavor ice cream. My wife who is from Jamaica often tells me that she thinks I prefer P & R’s food over her own, I am there at least once per week for their jerk chicken and jerk pork. Their beef patties and coco bread is a must try. P & R has the best beef patties in Boston, without question. I will say that customer service can be improved but the food is so worth the trip. The management seem to go above and beyond for customers, even for rude disrespectful customers. However, as a business owner myself I understand the importance of catering to customers.

Patty coca bread cheese, plates, ice cream. I can't go anywhere else for any of these items. I mean I'll get ice cream other places but no one will have the flavors and once I'm set on grapenut or rum raisin I'm headed straight to p&r. My 4 year old goes right up and orders his dinner plate with confidence that that's exactly what he wants. Great service as long as you know how to order

So far, so good. Had my niece with me and she wanted to go to P&R for some beef patties. I have been there almost every day since. Never heard of them before. But they know me now.
