Anyone that is looking for reviews before taking their pet to this location, please be warned!I am a first time pet owner and I took my dog in for a 1st visit. I had called ahead to ask about pricing and I was told that signing up for their thrive membership would mostly cover the first bill so I did that beforehand. At the visit, I did not have any X-rays, shots or medication prescribed but the visit overall went smoothly. The issue was with the cost and the attitude of the receptionists… I was told by the receptionists from a previous call that the first visit could be around $200-$300. I was prepared for that amount. What I did not expect was $800 charge… when I asked why a first visit was that high when I also had the thrive membership, the answer I was given was that prices fluctuate based on the needs of the pet. Reminder, I did not have any xrays or shots taken! I thought that was astronomically high!!! I asked about the payment plans since they have adverts all around the office, only to be told my visit does not qualify for one…. I asked to speak with a manager because the pricing did not sound right to me. Only to be told that the manager was at their sister location. Then the receptionist got a bit nasty when I asked for the phone number of the sister location. Her response, “ Well I’m sure, the manager won’t like that I just give out her location to random strangers”.This response rubbed me the wrong way. To avoid an outburst, I asked that the manager give me call. I paid the bill and started looking for different vets instead. I made up my mind that I would not be returning to Ayer. My decision was the same a week later when I did not receive any communication from the manager. At this point, I believe that I was heavily overcharged and all I asked for was a breakdown of why my bill was so high. I write this as a warning for new pet owners. This “business” is truly just a business where your pets are soul less transactions. You have better options out there. They are quick to take your money and promote their shady practices. Who knows what they did was the extra funds because I still believe that $800 is way too much for a first time visit.

We have had a great experience each time we brought our new kitty. He had surgery yesterday, the staff and physicians were absolutely wonderful. Very caring and compassionate, we are extremely happy with the care provided. Would highly recommend!

I am new to the area and local to Ayer and recently have been bringing my pets to this facility. I have been to other vets office and this place is just so welcoming. Not only are they great to your animals, but as pet owners they keep you up to date with follow ups and are very reasonably price. Unfortunately I recently had a sick cat that was beyond their care and they directed me to the animal hospital in Westford. They did everything they could, were honest, gave me a heads up about potential costs and severities of my situation. They called westford, made the appointment for me. My cat Calcifer, sadly, was unable to make it due to ruptured kidneys and we had to say goodbye. It was one of the hardest and saddest experiences I have ever gone through losing a fur baby for the first time. Not only did Ayer animal hospital follow up with me even when it was out of their hands, but they also sent me the most heartfelt condolences. Today I opened up my mail and found card that was individually signed with a note from each worker regarding their condolences about Calcifer. The thought and time that goes into little details like this really warms my heart. This was so incredibly thoughtful, and makes me feel like I’m not just a customer and like they actually care and go above and beyond. Thank you so much to all the workers there❤️

Always attentive, always able to get us in. The thrive program covers office visits to the vet if your furbaby is a frequent flyer due to any ailments… just an fyi…

We all need compassion during a crisis. I was sad to get the "sorry we're booked until Friday" (today is Tuesday) when my pup was suffering with vomiting and diarrhea overnight. I've been taking my dog for routine care for a few years. This is the first "emergency" I've called for. No real compassion, just "If you want to bring in a fecal sample we'll charge you." (Are there vets out there that do this for free?) I went to Westford Emergency and they were very caring and the vet came right out to meet us. The vets of Ayer Animal Medical Center are very good, but I'm not sure I'll be back. Disappointing phone experience.

I'm giving 5 stars but would give 10 if possible. I've been taking my kitty there for about 2 years and just have good things to say about them, plus I love that they always check in a few days after the visit to see if what my kitty had improved. To summarize, they've friendly, caring and I'm very happy to have an amazing team, helping me take care of my soul mate and best friend :)

When I called and explained to them what was going on with my dog they immediately made room for him. And i'm so thankful they did! They were awesome to my dog and to me. I called them pretty much every hour during his procedure and they were so amazing and completely understanding. Thank You

Extremely disappointed by the service and care of this place! Their prices are 3x more than well respected hospitals in Boston! Not worth it

By far the best Animal Medical Center we've ever brought our fur-baby Chaos. We've been to quite a few do to her allergies and other complications she's had. They're kind, thoughtful, compassionate and most of all, they love my babygirl. I highly recommend giving them a try.

We moved to Ayer a year and a half ago, leaving our previous vet after using their services for over 50 years. Ayer Animal Medical Center was recommended to us when we moved here and we have been extremely pleased with everyone we've interacted with there. Everyone has been friendly and professional. We have a small, very anxious dog who comes out calm and happy from his visits. We have 3 cats, one of whom is very skittish and all of our cats have been treated with kindness and care.We appreciate that the staff work to fill us in on all of our options and help us to make decisions so our pets receive optimum care within our budget. All in all, we're very glad to have found Ayer Animal Medical Center.

Very nice staff.. They called and checked on Biscuit after he was seen for limping. The staff explains everything they are doing with your pet as they do it. Biscuit is a baby 6 months old and he isn't afraid to go back, even after his first 2 shots.. ❤

Updating my review to highlight AAMC continues to be a great place. We bring our two dogs here. One of my dogs is terrified of getting shots, and is very large and strong. The staff worked with him to make it as stress free as possible for our dog...and me! It took a lot of patience and positivity from the staff...they are the best.Very friendly staff and Dr. Carpenter is easy going and knowledgeable. We have used this vet for our cat and two dogs for over 10 years of great service.

My dogs went here for their whole life. I felt they always gave me honest caring information and advice regarding their health. The vet techs are the best!

I’ve had the unfortunate need to put down two family dogs. One had cancer and her tumor had gotten to big. Our most recent baby had a horrible quality of life due to horrendous skin dermatitis, ear and eye infections and so much more. Both times, we came to Ayer Animal Medical. My family and I are very thankful for the staff. They are very compassionate and you can sense their sadness too even though it’s not their pet. They give you the information you need, explain everything without making it too complicated and over bearing. They were very respectful and gave us all the time needed to mourn our baby. We are still devastated but are thankful they made the process very seamless.

Ayer Animal Medical has been caring for my two dogs since they are puppies. They are always thorough in their wellness visits, and whenever the dogs have an issue, we can be seen always on the day we call. The entire staff is always professional and kind, and really care for our dogs.

I recently had to switch vets for my 12 year old lab mix after moving and I couldn’t be happier with his care. The staff at Ayer Animal Medical Ctr are kind, thorough, professional and incredibly knowledgeable! I’m so thankful that my best buds senior care is with such great vets.

My wife and I brought our 2 year old German Shepard in for an illness exam exactly 3 weeks ago yesterday when we had grown concerned over our dogs chronic diarrhea, weight loss and behavioral concerns. My wife had spent hours researching her numerous symptoms and had a strong suspicion that our dog had a condition called Endocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (EPI). She had expressed that concern and the symptom match to the veterinarian we had seen at the time, who was not convinced and started testing conservatively. We were told the issue was likely either due to diet or hormonal changes as she also just went into heat. We followed the recommendations of a bland diet and medication regimen, however, over the following week and a half, her symptoms did not improve and she continued to lose weight. 22lbs to be exact, from her last wellness visit less than a year ago. Over the past 3 weeks we have spent over $883.25 in numerous tests and medications, only to find out yesterday that our dog does indeed have EPI. Great, we have an answer. The veterinarian prescribed another medication (at nearly $220/ 12oz bottle; fair, we already learned the expense over the weeks of researching), and my wife went into the office the next day to pick up the script. As soon as she got home she attempted to order the prescription from the recommended website, which prompted her that the veterinarian would have to either call their pharmacy and fill the script over the phone or send it via USPS mail. My wife completed the order, paid an additional $20 for overnight shipping, and then called the vet to have them call in the script. My wife was told by the secretarial staff that they do not call in prescriptions, and that my wife would have to snail mail the prescription in herself. When she pressed further, explaining that our dog needed this medication ASAP as our dog is quite literally starving to death due to this condition, she was again told to mail it and that they will not make the phone call. A TWO MINUTE PHONE CALL that would have ensured our dog receives the medication she needs to survive by tomorrow afternoon. But here we are, preparing to take the the script to the post office first thing tomorrow morning to make sure the script is expedited to the pharmacy so that they can ship it. We can only hope to get the medication by mid-next week and that she does not lose any more weight (she lost 4lbs last week alone). Needless to say, we are highly disappointed with the lack of empathy towards the need of our dog during such a critical time. They have no problem with immediately processing payments for tests/medications over the phone, but can not make a simple call to a veterinary pharmacy for a medication that is required to save her life.Just something we felt others may want to keep in mind when selecting care for family pet.

The cat Vet (a Tuft's Universty grad) is a great Dr and very gentle and has a wealth of knowledge in the understanding and care of cats. The practice has awards for being cat friendly as well (along with dogs of course). The facility is very clean and organized with 2 waiting areas - one for cats and one for dogs. The tech was super, the front desk awesome - everyone is courteous, personable, cheerful, and helpful. Boarded my cat there for 5 days and the kennel staff was every bit as awesome. Pricing is very reasonable for the services and I would highly recommend the Ayer Animal Medical Center to anyone in the area who owns a pet of any kind.

Wow incredible staff. Front desk nurse and nurse who helped with my dog were absolutely fantastic and friendly. The doctor, amazing with pets, was also very helpful and willing to explain it all. Going back in June, wish it was closer to where I live I would go here forever.

Fast professional and not too pricey. My sisters 6 mos old chihuahua has 4 retained baby teeth so we set up an appt for a freshy pet visit to get her shots and set up surgery. Got her in within the week and with all the new restrictions during covid they took her in immediately and I waited less than 20 mins for a follow up call and get her back in the car. Scheduled surgery date and got the estimate quickly and easily. Staff was kind curtious and everything was handled respectfully and I left feeling like it was worth it. I've been to other vet offices feeling like I wasted 3 hours for nothing and left very unsatisfied. Ayer Animal Medical Center is my go to vet for my babies too!

Very well organized. Needed to pick up meds for my pup, when I came in the two women at the counter were very welcoming and willing to help. On and out very fast to be back on the road. Building was very clean and staff was great. Thank you for helping Ripley.

I like their customer service. I believe they are a little pricey compare to others in the area but as long as they give my Stewie the proper care it's fine. Their technicians are very nice and polite although I'm still waiting for a response to questions related to Stewie's treatment. I guess there's a lot of work they have to handle. I'll wait.
