You can look for dogs 🐕 or cats 🐈 here at a fair price and they all have medical updates. They also have a great board and care for only like $18 per day if you need a safe place for your pet while you’re away from home 🏡

Surprisingly fast foster to adoption process. They took the time to assist in matching the right dog for our youngest child. The first dog was so gentle, but she didn't interact with him hardly at all. The second one however, she loves playing with him.

The kindest and most gentlest shelter that I have ever been to. Very professional, well kept and clean. Ms. Stella found a new home today!😃A special thank you to volunteer Mary for making this all possible!😺🙏

They are a disappointment and extremely unorganized. I will not be volunteering, buying anything or supporting them anymore. The workers do not communicate with eachother. They tell you different things and do not care if they ruin your plans. They told us they had space to board our dog. We go to drop the dog off and they say they have NO SPACE. Mind you I asked, emailed, called MULTIPLE TIMES. the manager gonna say I told the worker no. Ok well IF you SAID no, why did you have us come down there, why did we have to fill out an application, and why didn’t you call and say that BEFORE we dropped the dog off. The manager is very nonchalant and rude. Will not be recommending them or supporting them anymore. If you want your time wasted go here. Otherwise go elsewhere. This is the second time they messed up and another time they tried not giving me MY dog. They said the manager did not tell them I was picking my DOG up. Of course she did not answer and they made me late for my appointment. I am just 100% done with them.

Prior to the coronavirus outbreak, this facility was one we visited often. As a homeschooling family, the Humane Society of Charles County offers classes for homeschoolers that my children absolutely adore.Since the outbreak, there was a wonderful fostering program in place that many people have supported, including my family. The people who work in this facility absolutely are devoted to helping animals and getting them into a good home. There is a clinic attached to the facility. There is a classroom, as mentioned above earlier, to help teach and learn more about animals and biology.I cannot say enough about the wonderful staff here. We have gotten three of our cats from this place and we absolutely adore them all. Fostering and adopting is easy to do. Please consider supporting or volunteering for this Humane Society if you are able. The rewards are boundless.

The front office staff was pleasant overall but the shelter definitely does not do a comprehensive exam on pets. The pet I adopted had eye drainage the day I saw her and I did apply for her and got approved. After I received the approval call the day after I asked if there were any medical issues I needed to be aware of, to which I was informed she did have an "eye thing" going on and it was being taken care of.When I got there to pick my new pet up, the person who I assume was the manager or director was condescending and nitpicking about everything, from not loading her into the carrier fast enough to not having a blanket in the carrier. She was especially rude when I asked her about my pets eye's and if she would need medication. She then made a phone call to who I may have spoke to (didn't know their name) and proceeded to talk about how it's only a little drainage that could be from anything and that nothing of the sort was done for her eye's. They do give you a free well pet coupon to local vets but they are scheduling at least weeks in advance so that doesn't really help at this time. I managed to get an appointment with my vet only to hear it there is definitely conjunctivitis and bilateral ear infection. I feel like the pets health should have been more of a concern than making sure the cat carrier had a blanket in it.I've gotten a couple pets from HSCC over the last decade or so without really any issues or if there was they were ready to help out but it just seemed kind of on my own this time without any real desire to resolve the issues. Not sure if management has changed or what.

We adopted our cat Lola from this animal shelter about 2 months ago. The shelter did a great job walking us through the process of adopting (first time adopting a cat) and letting us know how Lola is. Since being home she has really opened up and shown her full personality! She is such a lap cat and follows me everywhere! My tiny best friend. Great experience overall.

Staff were very helpful in my adopting four beautiful parakeets. I have enjoyed these birds immensely since adopting them. It turns out they are two pairs, so the staff was correct in insisting that they all had to be adopted together. Since having them home for a week or so they are laying eggs. This turned into 30 birds since adopting them.

Need a new pet? Then look no further, the Humane Society has got you covered. They are a non-profit organization that adopts out all kinds of pets. Dogs, cats, rabbits, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, birds, etc... Dogs/puppies and cats/kittens come already fixed, with shots, and dewormed as well as microchipped and more. It's all included in the adoption fee. The fee depends on what you are adopting and it covers all the vetting/shots/care.

My family and I absolutely LOVE this shelter! Almost every one of our animals have been adopted from here. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful, they even saved us money when we were struggling to find a cage by basically including a spare one they had in the adoption price!

Two days ago I found a 6-8wk kitten on a run. Desperate to get it some sort of medical attention (as it definitely seemed dehydrated, it was riddled with ticks, etc.) as soon as possible, I sent out feelers to all local veterinary hospitals. No local clinics are taking walk-ins at this time, and my cat's vet could not take a scheduled appointment until the end of September; I was told by a 24hr emergency vet that they wouldn't see the kitten unless he was injured. In a last-ditch effort I reached out to HSCC inquiring about a general check-over for the kitten, and within 24hrs of sending my e-mail out, Christine (Exec. Dir.) told me to come on over and let the little guy be seen by the clinic. In a flash, he got a comprehensive exam, got a first round of a de-wormer, tested negative for FeLV, and got a distemper vaccine. The veterinarian (Tracy Steller, I think, is the name I heard) was kind and helpful enough to come out and speak with me in spite of her busy schedule. The cats I had growing up came from HSCC, my current cat came from HSCC, and the little one was able to get help from HSCC... I will always support this organization.

They truly care about all the animals housed here. Please go foster, adopt or donate pet food, toys, beds, blankets and cleaning supplies to help them out. Adopted an absolutely wonderful boy kitten from them. He is our world.

Mary hooked me up with a wonderful kitty whom I named Zoey. I lost my girl KeeKee just recently after spending 13 yrs with her. I miss her tremendously and little Zoey is helping me cope with my loss and heavy hardship. Zoey is one happy kitty out of the cage free to run and getting lots of tlc. Thanks to Mary and me. I'm so grateful. Please adopt. Give a supernatural being a home. Love them till the end and forever my follow like people. Thanks

I would give 0 stars if I could. I booked boarding for my dogs on 09/02 for travel 12/17-12/26. Someone called me on 12/12 to tell me that they were overbooked and that my dogs were aggressive during their last stay and that they would not be able to accept them for our upcoming trip. If this was the case, I should have been informed that they could not accept my dogs weeks ago or even back in September when we picked them up after our last trip! Of course, because our travel dates are Christmas weekend, we can’t find another boarder. So, one of us must stay home with the dogs which means $1,500+ lost. Not to mention, that we left pre-bagged food for each dog daily the last two times we boarded. When we picked them up, there was so much food left! The first time, we chalked it up to the dogs not wanting to eat because they missed us. I guess they hadn’t been fed at all. If I wasn’t feed properly for over a week, I would be aggressive too! My recommendation, definitely board somewhere else. DO NOT waste your time here. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

I Love this place we have gotten 2 cats from them and I'm also a foster for cats. My daughter loves to go there and play with the cats and we donate as much as we can so an animal doesn't have to be without.

I love that all the animals were clean and it did not smell like I expected it to. Good job staff taking care of the animals. I adopted an adorable kitten that is healthy and thriving.

Need proper signs posted for kittens. Rude workers. I've never had a bad experience until my last visit. We were thinking about adopting another kitten but after the experience we had with the lady with all the Piercings and tattoos I decided not to. There are other places I can adopt from. Worth it just so we don't have to see her again!

We were called and told we were approved to adopt a dog and were given an appointment to meet and greet. When we arrived, we were told that the dog was given to someone else! What a disappointment. And the staff were not sympathetic to us but made us feel it was our fault. What a shame! We are seniors and will adapt. What if it was a small child who was counting on going to get their new pet and then had their dreams shattered! This organization needs to examine and fix their adoption process!!

This place will approve multiple applications for the same animal, tell you to come pick it up then by the time you get there they'll have already given that animal to someone else. No communication between staff. The sad thing is we were there and filled out the application while we were sitting there with the cat. We could have taken it right then and there but they told us they didn't have time to review our application. We spent hundreds of dollars on new cat things after our application was approved just to be heart broken and disappointed. I really hope this place changes the way they run things because it's just terrible.

Beyond disappointed and hurt for my daughters. We were approved this morning for a kitten. We called IMMEDIATELY after getting our approval email. The woman on the phone said we were the first to call and the kitten was still available. Their kittens must be adopted in pairs but they had no other kitten available to pair him. So the woman on the phone said she’d call us in an hour once she found him a friend. We called after about 3 hrs. No answer. Called again twice. No answer. Finally I email them and they tell me the kitten has been adopted! My husband calls because we’re very confused at this point. A woman answers and has NO EXPLANATION as to how/why this happened. And she seemed annoyed by my inquiring about how the kitten was adopted and we were the first to call in and were waiting on THEM to send the link so we could pay! This was a horrible way to treat people. If they found applicants with a kitty already in the home to be his companion they could’ve at least had the decency to email us. We waited all day to hear from them expecting to pick our fur baby up just to have him given away and them not even tell us.

Excellent. I got my sweet Nina Elizabeth from them. I never thought I'd meet another dog to fill the void of my sweet Shaggy Bartholomew but they helped me find this special girl and the adoption fee was a fair price. They really care where their pets go. Highly recommend.

Im getting really tired of trying to contact your shelter. I could barely get an answer when i adopted my cat. Now two weeks later he is having blood in his stool I was not told he had any problems. I asked. Trying to call you to find some answers, but no one picks up and cant leave a voice mail. Pretty frustrated.

If they treat people this way (please read all other reviews below) imagine how they treat their animals. I plan on reporting their staff until they are fired and replaced with new hires who care for their job, don’t approve 10 adoptions for one animal then cancel the others, and don’t just kill the animals when so many people are willing to adopt. Shame on this shelter.I encourage other who have bad experiences to call the corporate offices and leave as many bad reviews as you feel necessary for their horrible service and lack of care for the pet community.
