This was a great local museum that was fun not only for myself but my two kids as well (ages 2 and 9). The workers are incredibly knowledgable and so kind and willing to answer any questions and even showed/let my son face his fear and touch a stingray ! The discovery room was fabulous and both my kids loved it. We loved learning about boats and the history of Solomon’s as well as seeing fossils and actual live fish/crabs/jellies and otters ! With entry you also get a free tour of the lighthouse which was fabulous as well ! High recommend !

This museum has something for everyone!! Our family spent a week in the Calvert Cliffs area and made this one of our outings. Our arrival at the museum coincided with a guided tour of the lighthouse so we toured that first. It was so amazing and interesting to learn of the different families that resided in the lighthouse and walking up the very narrow staircases, and strolling through the living quarters really brought home what a unique lifestyle that would’ve been. After the lighthouse tour, we visited the small boat shop where we were able to learn a lot about the efforts that go into building wooden boats. Afterward, we spent a long time watching the otters! So cute!!! The main museum is a wealth of information about various timelines of the area from fossils to industry. Every member of my family had their favorite feature of the museum. My favorite was the extensive fossilized, shark teeth exhibit! The gift shop was also a great way to end our tour where we were able to get souvenir gifts for friends back home. It was definitely worth more than just an afternoon!

This is a fantastic local museum which details the history, industry, and culture of this particular waterfront community. The main exhibit area includes live display of local indigenous and invasive wildlife including snakes, horseshoe crabs, fish and others. There's an extensive outdoor component to the museum which includes otters, a salt marsh, a variety of ships and boats, and access to the relocated Drum Point lighthouse. Completely worth the price of admission. Budget about two hours to see everything.

My oh my, this museum almost had me in tears in a great way. Ok, so we took a cruise with WM B Tennison Cruises around Solomon's Island and had to check in inside this museum. After the cruise, we paid a fee to get into the museum, and my God, I felt like a kid again. We went up into the light house, and it was just fantastic. They have a gift shop, and now I'm writing this review. I just remember I forgot to go back to the gift shop to grab a few things. This is definitely a place for everyone to visit, I also think it would be a wonderful place for school field trips.

This place ROCKS for people with a variety of disabilities! First of all, it’s VERY accessible for mobility challenged guests. Plenty of room to tour and navigate the exhibits in a wheelchair or scooter. Even the gift shop! Exhibits are low enough to be seen by someone seated in a wheelchair. Bathrooms are totally accessible. Elevator goes to all floors. Long boardwalk outside right by the water. Hearing impaired assistance available (call ahead at least 2 weeks) and a beautiful “quiet space” on the third floor provides the ideal environment for those with sensory issues. Twice a year a special “Night at the Museum” hosts many people with disabilities. No one is left out.The museum exhibits are infused with local history and color and a carefully orchestrated design. Murals by local artists are mesmerizing. The vibe is totally maritime Chesapeake with boats and small sea animal touch area and volunteers to help explain some of the exhibits. The otters are absolutely adorable (and fast swimmers.) There is a serenity to the grounds and the setting is beautiful. Be sure not to miss this place whenever you’re in Southern Maryland.

My family and I have been coming here for years. We decided to come on an abnormally warm early March day. The museum wasn't crowded at all. The staff were great and very helpful and after a cold winter it was nice to go outside to see their boardwalk, lighthouse and outdoor otter display. The kids all had a great time as well and left with three fossil shark teeth they found in the fossil sand pit. I highly recommend this museum for anyone traveling to Solomons Island.

Interactive animal exhibits for young and young at heart. Play spaces for the younger crowd. We love the fossil hallway and watching at the fossil preparation window. The aquarium hallway is mesmerizing. Outside you can sit and watch the otter antics or take a walk across the pier and through the woods. We skipped the lighthouse on this visit. Many things to see, do, and learn.

Amazing place to bring family and kids! Super beautiful and so much to learn. You can actually go into the little tower above the water.Kids can touch sea creatures inside. It's also nice for adults if you are there just together.Definitely going back soon.

Great spot to watch a concert. Don’t wast your money on the seats as you can’t see anyway unless you stand and there is plenty of areas right around them that you get a great view!

Absolutely love this museum. Everyone we encountered were very pleasant and happy to assist and answer questions or demonstrate their knowledge. The exhibits were awesome and not over crowded with text. Lots of artifacts and live animals. Definitely worth the $22 admission fee total for 2 adults and one child. Check out the website for pricing and hours and then definitely go take a look! We came home with gifts from the beautiful gift shop and a shark's tooth from the discovery zone for the kids to play and interact. Will be back for sure!

Awesome museum for all ages. My 2 year old loved the sea critters and boats, but there is also a large collection of artifacts for older ages, too. Had no idea that this museum had so much! Great activity for a hot day or a rainy day.

This is a great museum in the Calvert County area that describes the many ways this region had a role in American history. Whether it is as a fishing/recreation area outside of Washington DC, or how it helped in the previous war efforts, or describing how it’s marine biology an ecosystem is important, the museum has it all. If you happen to go during sharkfest it’s even better. I did not even know Maryland had its own otters until I visited there and saw them in action. There are also nice exhibits describing the history of African Americans in the region which is incredibly important given Maryland’s status as a border state and a population split in supporting the Union or Confederacy.

We visited the museum with the family this last weekend. It was a great experience. So great to have this local place basically in our backyard. My son loved experiencing the rays, and exploring the local sea life that is found in our area. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating of us.

This museum has expanded amazingly since our last visit about 15 yeas ago. Marine life, Chesapeake skipjacks, powerboat racing, and tons of stuff for children....this museum has something for everyone. Don’t miss the screwpoint lighthouse that you can climb up and see how the lighthouse keeper and his family lived - just a fantastic representation of a way of life no longer around on the Chesapeake. Great staff, beautiful gift shop, and military and senior discounts for entry. Great visit, thank you so much!

Very interesting Marine museum! We went 2C light house which has been amazingly restored. But the we discovered the otters & marine life side which was awesome. Go at 1pm to see the feeding. The history of boat building & oysters in yhe Chesapeake was all neat 2C. Had a great visit!
