Great service. Great food. At a conference at Antietam and Captain Benders was recommended. It was great. I had the Crab cake chicken sandwich my buddy had the pretzels and French Onion soup. All good. Net the owner. Not only cute, but competent. Checking tables and making sure all were happy. I'll be back.

My husband picked this spot for an early dinner after a day at Antietam. From the outside, I didn’t have high hopes and the inside feels mainly like a neighborhood bar. Don’t let that fool you!The food was fast and amazing. We had pickle fries, crab dip, fish & chips, and the Rachel. All excellent with great service too!

We are regular locals - Benders always serves great food and drinks! Tonight we just got fish and chips - HUGE portion of fried white fish and lots of crisp handmade fries. The Antietam Ale and SoCo & Pepsi hit the spot. Service is fine but they usually seem to be a little short-staffed so it’s a bit slower than some folks like sometimes but the staff are busting their butts always! Atmosphere is not quite biker bar as many of us bring our kids in and no one bats an eye - it’s the only show in town (almost). Often there’s live music or trivia - always sports playing on the multiple TVs. There’s an outdoor table out front and some tables in the back on gravel. There’s another couple of rooms for when they get all seated out front. Wings Night is popular as are their St Pat’s party and other special events. But we always come back for the AWESOME food. Pay with cash and get the ‘discounted’ price.

Excellent service. The pulled pork sandwich was very good and the fries were excellent. The fries had salt, pepper, and garlic powder on them. I thought it was excellent taste, some people might dislike the bite.. Price was average for the area. Highly recommended.

This is a nice little place to grab some food in town. The food has been great the two times I have been there and the same bartender was very nice and helpful . I suggest stopping by Captain benders tavern if you are visiting the battlefieldParking: Parking has been easy on the street both times o have goneKid-friendliness: I don’t think I would bring a kid in hereWheelchair accessibility: Front door would be troubling to get through with a wheel chair

Stopped in after touring the battlefield. The sandwich options have a good variety. We got three different paninis. The Burnside, Reuben, and the Big John. The ghost pepper cheese on the Big John had a lingering hot in your mouth feel, but wasn't hot up front. The pickle fries were some of the best fried pickles we have had. It is a good pickle to breading ratio that doesn't let the pickle all slide out of the breading in the first bite.

I came down to visit Antietam National Battlefield and stopped here for lunch. They have a very nice extended menu, nice menu of craft beers as well. This is a great hometown bar that serves good food at a fair price with a smile from the staff. I highly reccomend a visit here if you're passing through. Really good folks on this establishment.

After hiking around parts of the Antietam battlefield area, needed to refuel. Stopped in Captain Benders Tavern.Place is exactly what you'd expect in a tavern/pub.More space than you think, dart boards, etc.Good selection of national and regional craft beers.Food is good. We had taco salad (basically chili and taco fillings in an edible bowl) and tomato basil soup and chili. Tasty solid food.Would definitely come back next time we are in town.Based on message board they have specials several nights a week.

Special thanks to Captain Bender's Tavern for making our Valentine's Day special. We had Crabdip, Crab Martini, Prime Rib Valentine's Day Special, Chicken Chesapeake Sandwich and a Kid's Pasta. All was full of flavor and delicious. Thanks again and we will be back from the wings!!

I have never looked forward to somewhere as much and had such a schizophrenic experience. Outside the menu was posted on the wall, featuring specials like filet minion, mussels in clam sauce...Inside it was more like a VFW. Kids were climbing on the pool table and screaming. Waiter couldn't answer any questions (what's on tap?).Paid over $110 for 4 of us (2 kids) and that's after they completely forgot my daughters order and took it off the bill.I'm rooting for this place, I really am. Just not sure I'm coming back.

Awesome local pub. Food is a little pricey but I haven’t had a bad meal yet. Great selection of craft beer from all over. Service is great as well

No way around it, this is a dive bar. Having said that, I loved it. Sat at the bar where we got excellent service even though the place was crowded. My burger was cooked perfectly and so good! My wife had the blackened salmon sandwitch and found it dry and not to her liking. But...prices are very reasonable, it is close to the Anteitam Battlefield in the georgeous Western Maryland countryside, and we'll be back.

Great little place. Service stellar, atmosphere killer. To owner/manager: Couldn’t give 5 stars cause the Kitchen staff needs to get it together immediately. I meant to leave this review months ago but just got around to it.When a customer has a request, you accommodate it if you can. We asked for our $35(!) basket of wings to be made crispy because we come weekly(!) and don’t find them to be crispy/done enough to our likingAs a restaurant owner/operator I was appalled on my most recent visit when the server told me straight up “I’ll put that on the ticket but the kitchen normally doesn’t accommodate requests like that” …excuse me?? It’s chicken wings cooked in hot oil…at a da*m dive bar, we’re not exactly on 5th ave in NYC here so Im not sure why the staff is “too good” to attempt to accommodate something as small as crispy wings?I suggest you remind your kitchen staff when customers are in your restaurant, the customer is paying YOUR bills and THEIR wages simultaneously. If you’re lucky enough to turn a profit with a kitchen staff currently full of divas too good to accommodate their customers I suggest you count your blessings because kitchen staff will make or break your business eventuallyTLDR : Kitchen staff ruins an otherwise awesome little restaurant / bar. usually our server just says “oh yea sure” when we ask for crispy wings , but once the wings come out they’re not cooked any longer than usual

Ordered my usual hub city salad without cheese and get home to see that it doesn’t have any chicken on it. Called the manager and not once did he offer to remedy the situation. So now I’ll enjoy my pile of $11 lettuce.

Perfect local pub.... Good music/atmosphere, Great food, Excellent friendly service! Not many of these places still exist! Perfect for a weekend lunch date with my hubs! We had the crab dip (served with soft pretzel sticks), chili, spinach salad (I substituted the vinaigrette for the honey mustard), and a panini. All were good portion sizes and so tasty! Looking forward to going back to try the crab cakes!

The Tavern provided a much needed respit for 2 passersby's looking for a good meal in a comfortable atmosphere. The roast beef sandwich and fries were extrordinary. There was live music. The staff was pleasant and very attentive. I will definitely return when I'm back in the area.
