Incredible grocery store! I'm not from this area, but when I'm in town, I always make it a point to stop at this Safeway. This store has the largest wine selection I've ever seen in a grocery store. The bakery department has some of the most amazing selections. The produce section is fully stocked with fresh veggies. Need a gift when visiting someone? Be sure to check out their amazing flora section.

This will be my final visit to a Safeway. The 'just 4U' and 'clipped coupons do not work and for months I never noticed. So I have been going to the service desk my last 5 or so visits, wasting my time to have the coupons applied. This time the employee insisted on checking the signs in the aisle, even though I took a picture on my phone. Never had these issues at Giant or Harris Teeter...the disrespect of having to see the label on the shelf...as if my picture was fake, that is the final insult. I am sure Safeway can careless...check your receipt closely as I never noticed.

I ordered items I needed at 3 pm on Dec. 31, 2023 for a new year's eve party, and Safeway promised to deliver it between 8 and 9 pm. After waiting till 11 pm I requested Safeway to cancel the order. With no confirmation of cancellation, I requested again at midnight to cancel the order and was given a confirmation number. Now, at 5:30 am on January 1, 2024, I am awaken by a call from a driver saying he is at my door with the order. How many things in the chain of the delivery system would have to go wrong for Safeway to ruin the end of 2023 and start of 2024 like this?? It's amongst the worst customer service I have ever received. I have been a loyal customer for decades and tolerated many errors in delivery in the past but I will now take my chances with Harris Teeter. No way anyone could serve me worse than you just did.

Clean store, confusing layout, some friendly and helpful ladies working there, manager and stock guy couldn't be bothered. Rosemary & garlic rotisserie chicken would be the only reason to shop there over Giant nearby

Thank goodness for our Safeway Pharmacy! In contrast to the CVS where there always seem to be issues in spite of the fact that I have been a customer since 1999. Safeway is on the ball!

10/19/2022Have been buying at this place for some time now. It’s ridiculous the amount of expired food products in this place. I have buy from expired sausages, expired bread with mold, EXPIRED EGGS, milk , cheese , ham DOG FOOD. They should close this place. I’m going to make a strong case against this place and sue them very soon!!!!

Great sea food bad service. My family and I always get great service and great crab legs but today only crab legs. I asked an older women who was helping me about the price on the display versus price on the digital scale and could not here her. I asked her a second time and her response was not how I would have talked to a customer. Here I come Giant to give you my hard earned money for crab legs. Safeway I know your a huge company and my little bit of business is but a drop in the bucket but I would highly recommend a retraining on customer service. Can definitely tell I was a bother.

Their bakery has gone downhill. They changed their rye bread. Lousy. No reason to go back. Plus, the store is dirty. At least they brought back hand baskets.I shop here once or twice a week, mostly for produce but (shhhh!) they have the best bakery around. Rye bread and Challah that can't be beat. The bagels are acceptable but they have to be toasted, prior to eating.Their management is rude. They don't respect their customers. Deli people turn their backs so that they don't have to help you.

Been coming here for 15 years. Generally a good place with good variety and decent prices. However it must be the only grocery store in Olney that got rid of small carts and hand carts around COVID time. If you are only coming to grab a few items, it's cumbersome to have to push the big cart around. And because they put these cardboard islands of goods in the middle of some rows, it makes for tough maneuvering when the aisle is jammed with everyone pushing big carts. Go to Giant and small carts are plentiful, and with good roller wheels that don't go "thunk thunk thunk". Over the past year I asked various staffers what has happened to hand and small carts and everyone just shrugged shoulders. I finally got a manager who confessed that the parent company no longer has any supply chain for new hand and small carts. ??????? is my response. Really? How does Giant do it? Part of me thinks the management is too cheap to invest in these necessities for easy shopping. Still, this Safeway is a real oddity in some ways. I've been tempted many times to jump ship and shop elsewhere.

The store is great overall but I’d like to give special mention to the floral department. For $10.99 I consistently get the best roses I’ve ever bought for my wife. Currently I have a dozen white roses that are still in perfect condition after a week. The secret is to cut the stems at a 45 degree angle or greater, but it takes a high quality rose to last that long. Thank you.

Watch out for Thomas English Muffin sale, although it says mix and match equal price or less, the Hearty one beside it, at the correct price, doesn't qualify. When I suggested they change the sale sign, the manager said "Too bad, that's the way it is".

We have been shopping here almost every Sunday for the last 3 years. Yesterday when unloading our groceries into the car and getting our two year old into the car seat, we left our groceries in the mini car that was attached to our cart. We called on 5/8/23 at 6:30 pm and spoke to the female manager on duty, we think her name was Tricia, and she rudely told us there was nothing they could do about it. We understand that they cannot be held responsible for items left in the parking lot, but this woman was very rude. Our father was in the area and tried to pick up the grocers as well at the time and she was rude to him in person. Will no longer be shopping at this Safeway.

Love Safeway in general, but this Safeway sells wine! Wish I lived closer. I got 6 bottles and each bottle was a deal.

This Safeway sells beer and wine, which is great! But the alcohol prices are on the medium to high end (nothing approaching the '3 buck chuck' that Whole Foods in the District sell!).

Worst checkout lines in town. My ice cream started melting while I was waiting. It takes longer to checkout than it does to gather up all the groceries. The cheese aisle stinks up the whole area around it and instantly killed my appetite. Are they really selling so much fancy cheese that they need a huge display for it?Btw, do not buy beer or wine here. They don't merely check IDs, but actually try to scan the card so they can sell the info. Nobody else, including the County ABS stores, goes that far. I hadn't been inside in a while and that demand to scan was a nasty surprise. I told them to forget that part of the sale.Almost every worker in the store seems a bit downtrodden and unhappy with the place. The service is way more engaging at every other grocery store in the area. There's an unusually depressing aura and bad vibes for what should be an ordinary grocery store. Olney Safeway also seems to be understaffed, compared to how I remember it from years ago. I won't be going back and don't recommend a visit to anyone. The coupons and special savings aren't any better than what Giant has, as far as I could tell. The parking lot in the front seems to get full for most of the day, going by what I see driving by. The parking garage in the back has some sketchy folks around it. Be careful there.

I usually don't shop Safeway, but my son and husband do. I find their regular prices outrageous compared to Giant and Wegmans. However, you can't beat their meat sales. 90 percent of the time, the beef steaks and roasts are flavorful and as tender as you'd expect the cut to be (i.e. New York Strip is denser than the ribeye so you can't expect the same degree of tenderness between the cuts). We've had some "chew and spit" steaks from all 3 local grocery stores, but it's least likely to get them here. (We'll return them now cooked but uneaten. No more splurging on steaks or roasts that are inedible. During covid it just happened too much. Grocery stores be warned...source good and trusted meat purveyors. )The other day, though, I went to this Safeway with trepidation of spending too much for things on my list. However, armed with the Safeway app on my phone, I had some digital deals that were crazy good. I got a rib roast on such a good sale that I thought it was too good to be true - at $5.99/lb the meat had to be awful, right? Wrong! It was fantastic.Other sale items on my list were less with the digital coupons. I may have spent $200, but I saved about $120! Plus, I got extra gas points since it was my birthday month.I have to be candid,..although I love the sales, I don't think the extra "digital" savings is fair since there are some shoppers who aren't good with apps on their phone -- or their computer -- to get the savings. So, I'm recommending 2 things to be prepared: Get the app for the digital rewards and have a shopping list. The app will also give you rewards -- freebies that make a person happy to shop. (I got free organic beef stock which I used to make the au jus for my rib roast.) Freebies make me a happy shopper.I have rewards waiting for me so I'll be heading back to the store. Just reel me in Safeway!

The Olney Ssfeway has beer and wine. It is the only Montgomery County location with beer and wine that I know of. They also have covered parking for bad weather days.

Really well stocked and clean store. The customer service is phenomenal, and the pharmacy is one of the best. Always insightful, polite. Never had an issue. All the staff are friendly and go above and beyond. I wouldn’t want to shop anywhere else, they have exactly what I need. This is how a grocery store should be.

I always come to this Safeway and have never had an issue. Well today I encountered Yva… she asked had I used the coupon that I clipped JUST before checking out. I stated no and she tells me that it if it was used this week then I can’t use it. I inform her that I have not shopped that week and she continues to explain further rather than correcting the price of my items. Instead of dong her job as a CSR, she chose to go back and forth with me stating that she doesn’t have to deal with my attitude when I in fact already let her know that I hadn’t used the coupon prior to the day. When I asked for a manager she refused. I received my refund but with unnecessary actions/words to get to it.Oh there aren’t anymore free reusable bags, yes they will charge you for 20 cent for the bags in the transaction that day even though you have clipped the free bag coupon because they don’t have any to accommodate the incentive.

This used to be a nice store. Went to the deli & asked for a pound of ham, the guy sliced it super thick, more like ham steaks. I guess it's quicker & easier that way. The seafood counter looked sad, the girl could not manage to wrap my piece of fish.. Checkout guy was loudly complaining about being there. Last time shopping there for me.

As a (too) frequent shopper at the Olney Safeway, I can easily say how much I appreciate this store. The staff know who I am and greet me happily (we really are there a lot🤣) and I can almost always find everything I need. I like having the additional self checkouts for those quick stops. I almost never wait for more than one customer in front of me to checkout at the cashier lines.

The safeway in olney is a fabulous place to shop. I've always found that it is clean, with fresh goods on the shelves. In addition they have a Starbucks and a very nice beer and wine selection. It's important to pay attention to any specials because it's priced to compete with a whole foods or a Harris teeter. While I don't go there every week to buy food I do find the deals are good The checkout lines are okay and the parking is more than adequate. The employees are very helpful and whatever I've had a problem with the self-checkout (like all the time) there is always a helpful employee who can figure out what went wrong and how to get the product adjusted at the right price.Safeway is not only a great store for buying your home food stuffs, they also have food specials at a really good deli department so that you can grab something ready made to go and eat on the run.Safeway did a good job on this store!

A Safeway is a Safeway, no? Not always... The staff here is very good... But also not perfect. The store is clean and has a good selection. The bakery is good and the meat/seafood dept is solid (although sometimes brusque). What makes this store different is the wine selection and EXCELLENT gourmet cheese counter. There is a nice selection of standard wine, and good sized walk in cooler for beer and an AMAZING variety of choices for fancy cheese. COVID has reduced the selection a bit, but there are still many wonderful choices.

I just had the worst customer service experience at the Safeway Pharmacy in Olney. We have used the Pharmacy for over 5 years and been shopping at the store for 7 and this one interaction made me never want to walk through those doors again. Suzanne in the Pharmacy is very rude and is easily frustrated when she is overwhelmed. If you are easily frustrated by customers asking questions when they call about their prescriptions then perhaps you're in the wrong line of work. I called in to inquire about my son's Epipen that was sent over from his Doctor's office and had questions and her response was, "well if you let me get off the phone I can see if I have your prescription in stock to fill, so I let her go. After hanging up the phone, I realized, she never clarified if they had the prescription in stock and how I would know if they didn't so I called back. When I explained who I was and that I just called, she heavy breathed and said in a very rude tone, "I told you I would call you." I immediately asked her why she was being rude and she proceeded to become very argumentative. I immediately called the manager Danielle and she was amazing. She listened to the problem, said she would address it, and and call me back with the answer to my questions. My interaction with her is the reason I will continue to shop here but if you use the Pharmacy BEWARE Suzanne and hope you catch her on a good day. VERY VERY rude person.

Great service. Cheese and deli selections are excellent. The best part is the pharmacy. It’s like a hometown pharmacy and the pharmacists are top notch.

Went to Safeway to buy flowers for my mother I found a nice bouquet of flowers and purchased them. Unfortunately, the price I paid was not what was listed on the sign. I went back to check to make sure I didn’t make a mistake and sure enough lots of flowers on the same display I tried to receive five dollars back for the overcharge the floral associate did not take care with my advice . I was not able to get my refund , The floral associate said it’s not her responsibility she had no idea why this happened and refused to give me my money back. Miss labeling products and prices happen but if you’re not willing to fix the problem people will not continue to visit you.

The store's manager, Danielle, is rude. I'm Deaf, so I use ASL interpreting service through the video phone to make calls. I called the first time inquiring job openings. At the time, the interpreter did not announce that they were the interpreter through a relay service, so Danielle thought she was talking directly to me. She seemed nice, at first. Couple days later, I called to check in, because she said she would call me back. This time, the interpreter announced that they're an interpreter, interpreting for me. Immediately, Danielle's attitude shifted and seemed impolite. I tried to clarify to her what the purpose of the relay service was, in order to clear any confusion. Yet, she proceeded to be impudent. Mind you, the interpreter also interprets the tone of the person on the other end. I finally reached to the point and said forget it, I'm no longer interested in working for this location. I am a former employee of Safeway, at the Rockville location, and they treated me way better than Danielle. They need to be more educated when it comes to Deaf people. Not to mention, be trained to be courteous when it comes to situations like this. I've shopped at this Safeway for 10+ years and never experienced something like this. Do better. I am extremely baffled.
