I used Charles Street Bakery for the first time at the suggestion of my aunt who uses them all the time. I got my wedding cake from them. I changed my mind a few times on the design and they were super quick and understanding about the changes. When I saw my cake on the day of my wedding, I absolutely fell in love with it. It was, and still is the most beautiful cake i’d ever seen. The flowers were placed exactly how I wanted them, and they even added edible glitter which really made the cake look magical. I will most definitely be using Charles Street Bakery for any future events!!! Thank you all so much!

I wanted a effervescent type of cake for my wife's birthday. Came in with an idea and left with the confidence of it being executed effectively. They delivered an effervescence butterfly cake! Moist from the inside and very tasty because of all the flavors on top! I am looking forward to having a bigger butterfly made with mocha frosting all around!

I went to Charles Street bakery to place a cake order 3 days after they made my beautiful delicious red velvet cake (the purple one). I told them that I want it exactly like the previous cake that I had gotten (size wise) but this time I want carrot cake. The same person that took both cake orders responded by saying ok so 6in 3 layers then? And I said yes. Because I wanted a tall cake like the previous one, so we both had an understanding. I go pick up the cake yesterday and I see that the cake is not tall at all from the glass fridge. I tell the cashier who was the one that took my order that I ordered a 3 layer cake and that my cake was supposed to be taller, which she agreed. She tells them in the back that it was supposed to be a 3 layer cake and they tell her that is a 3 layer cake. When I tell you I was so blown away that that was a 3 layer cake… like I was so confused. The cashier brought me “manager”. Kathy (manager) proceeded to tell me that carrot cakes are thinner than other cakes and reassured me that it is 3 layers. I told her that I specifically told the person who took my order that I wanted the cake to be as tall as my last one so that’s why she put down 3 layers on the order sheet. I’m very annoyed because this second cake (black) was much more expensive than the first cake (purple). I honestly wasn’t going to take the cake but they have a contract that you only get 50% back. I was not going to let them keep $45 which I honestly think should have been the price of that cake. Katie the “manager” pretty much blames it on still having to staff and gave me her number so that I can place my order trough her next time so there would not be any confusion. Katie said that next time say you want 4 layers when ordering a carrot cake, i don’t believe 4 layers would have been enough for that height, i thinking 6 layers. To make things worse the cake was extremely dry. Charles Street Bakery does make very beautiful cakes and can voucher for their red velvet cake because it was moist and delicious . I would advise you to think twice when ordering a carrot cake from them for a special event.

These folks are just incredible , the items are a little pricey but very, very high quality. They produced my sister's cake, and everyone really loved it.This is an update, the cake I asked for CSB to create for my sister. We loved it so much! My daughter was crossing over to join Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, after 38 years after her aunt. We thought it was fitting that she got one too. The care that this little bakery is just incredible. They packed the cake so we could transport it to Winston Salem to surprise my daughter. Thank you, Charles Street Bakery.JR

Five stars aren't nearly enough. They recently made a cake for our daughter's first birthday with a Princess and the Pea theme. This was our first time using this bakery as we live 40 minutes away, but they were the only bakery that looked like they could do the design we wanted and were able to work us in on the schedule. We initially contacted them on 7/1 and needed the cake on 7/22, so somewhat shorter notice. I was initially told they may not be able to do the design we wanted b/c of the short notice and the workload, but they then said they'd be able to do it. And did they ever. We could only find one picture online of a Princess and the Pea cake to show them as an idea of what we were looking for, but that cake was kind of amateurish-looking, so we weren't too sure how our cake would end up looking. However, the design and detail on the bed and princess were simply stunning with so many little details (see the photos for yourself). The decorator simply knocked it out of the park with a true work of art. They could have done much less detail and we still would have been impressed, but they just went above and beyond. Aside from our daughter, the cake was the centerpiece of the party. People just kept coming up and leaning over the cake to look at all the details...so many oohs and ahhs. And the cake itself was just delicious (chocolate cake with strawberry buttercream filling). This will absolutely be our go-to bakery from now on.

Being from NY, I’m no stranger to good bakeries. And like most New Yorkers, I have my opinion of things and always think I’m right. Lol 😂. So I decided to venture into town to check out the Charles Street Bakery, here in La Plata.I find the Charles Street Bakery to be a “Local Gem with Delicious Treats”As an advocate for supporting local businesses, I recently visited the Charles Street Bakery in La Plata, MD. My main objective was to pick up their highly recommended chocolate chip cookies, for a BBQ that I was going to—or as they call them down here, a “cook out”. So I purchased two dozen of these chocolate chip cookies 🍪 . Overall, my experience was quite satisfactory, earning the bakery a solid four-star rating.The bakery itself is on the smaller side, which led to a bustling atmosphere during my visit. It was clearly a popular spot, with locals filling up the cozy space. While the crowd made it slightly challenging to navigate, it also added to the charm and warmth of the bakery.Now, let's talk about the highlight—the chocolate chip cookies. They were absolutely delicious! Each bite offered a delightful combination of a soft, chewy center and a slightly crispy edge. The chocolate chips were generously embedded throughout, providing a rich and indulgent experience. It was evident that these cookies were crafted with care and quality ingredients.Furthermore, I was thrilled to support a local business that takes pride in their creations. The Charles Street Bakery's commitment to serving the community shines through their delectable treats. Despite the crowded space, the staff managed to work with each customer as fast as they could. They did it in a “manner of fact type of way”, rather than friendly. But perhaps that was because it was busy.While my experience was overall satisfactory, there were a few minor inconveniences due to the store's limited size. However, it's important to remember that this is a small establishment, and the team does their best to accommodate the steady flow of customers.So if you're seeking a local gem in La Plata, the Charles Street Bakery is worth a visit. Their chocolate chip cookies are truly a treat for the taste buds, and the opportunity to support a local business adds an extra layer of satisfaction. Just be prepared for a bustling environment due to its small size.

We ordered a 2 tier cake for my daughter’s First Birthday and it was “Alice in Wonderland” themed.I live in VA, but was having the party at my parents house in Charlotte Hall so I couldn’t go into the store to place the order and discuss details/designs with them. Instead they worked with me through text and over the phone and they did not disappoint! I was even able to make the deposit over the phone. The cake turned out BEAUTIFUL and it was delicious!The icing was little bit too sweet, but the cake was moist and soft. I will definitely be ordering from them again if I need a cake for anymore events!

I live in NJ so I’m not familiar with bakeries in MD. The first time I ordered from Charles Street, I ordered a baby shower cake for my sister who is the one who lives in MD and it was absolutely incredible. Well, over the weekend I had my sons birthday party and obviously wanted to order a cake from here again. Let me tell you how accommodating and helpful the employees are here, nothing like any bakery I’ve dealt with in Jersey. I could not believe how beautiful my sons birthday cake came out. I could have cried, I was so happy with the turn out and how helpful they were. They can make anything happen for you! If you ask for the most outlandish cake, they’ll make it happen and perfect it. My son loves the famous childrens star, Blippi so that was the theme of his party and I only had family bc of the Delta varient, so when you look at the pictures, it’s not too big, but it was the best cake I’ve ever had with not a crumb left to spare. DONT ORDER FROM ANYONE ELSE, ORDER YOUR CAKES HERE, BUY YOURE PASTRIES HERE!! LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BAKERY!

Well.... it was a beautiful cake. The boy loved it, but one of the driest, stodgy, cakes I think I've ever tasted. Kind of disappointed. For the price, probably won't be back for cake but willing to try their other baked goods.

I know they bake some good things—I’ve bought some from Marie’s. But when I came to the store nobody waited on me.One girl was busy filling a big cookie order, but two others walked to the front and back, ignoring waiting customers. Not even a kind word , like ‘we’ll be right with you .’After about 8 minutes I walked out. My wife said the same thing happened another time she went in there.No piece of cake is that good.

Had a retirement cake made by them and it was beautifully decorated. However, the chocolate layer didn’t taste like chocolate. It tasted like a brown yellow cake. I had been waiting months for it and was extremely disappointed

Excellent service and the baked goods are amazing. We got an Almond Cake that was full of almond flavor and incredibly moist. My daughter got a cake pop that she said was amazing. We also got a birthday cake we'll have this evening, but we have no reason to believe it won't be wonderful, too.

Called last minute for a birthday cake because the bakery we originally placed an order with did not make the order. Charles street bakery had a beautifully decorated cake ready for us within 30 minutes! The decoration was stunning and the cake was delicious. The employees were so kind and understanding and saved our day. Even though it is far from our house they have our business from here on out! Thank you so much!

A bakery!! I stopped I stopped in thinking I was gonna get some fresh pastries! I ordered 2 small cinnamon vines and 3 oatmeal cookies. The centeread it the cinnamon buns are dry and could not have been big today. Have not tasted cookies but I sure hope they're better than the buns.

This is the best thing about La Plata! If you get the chance I highly recommend the stop. Everyone in our family has their favorite treats but absolutely everything we have ordered or eaten has been wonderful! The staff is amazing, friendly and helpful. Sometimes I can’t choose and they always help me find something to satisfy my sweet tooth! Highly HIGHLY recommended this place!

This place is racist. As soon as my family entered the female owner/manager's entire demeanor changed. She was extremely friendly to the white woman that entered after us, but intentionally unwelcoming to both my family and the minority family that entered. I will never patron this place again and honestly there's nothing to miss. The cheese danish tasted rancid and the coffee was trash.
