I recently got a dog from here. She has had a hard first year of life. We believe her original owners abused her. Then left her at the shelter. Tri county rescued Millie from that situation. However she was adopted again we were told then not even a week late was brought back to tri county super sick. Instead of that family taking Millie to a vet she was brought back to a shelter which is really screwed up on the family's end. But tri county gave her the medical attention she needed yet again saving her life. Then she ended up with me, someone who needed an animal to put all my love in and Millie need the same in a person. I only have had her for almost a month and she sleeps with me every night, shadows me through out the day, and comforts me when I have had a hard day. This is my dog and she will never have to see any harm again, but it was all thanks to tri county that I was able to get this lovely dog

We saw a cat that we were interested in online and were able to meet him the next day. The lady on the phone was very helpful and answered all my questions. We were able to take him home the same day. Everyone was very kind and helpful and the whole process was quick. We definitely recommend and would like to thank them for our new family member!

I loved the experience of getting my dog from this shelter. I got Sage (who use to be Fawn) from the tri-county shelter and she has been a dream. You can tell the staff care for the dogs as well as they can.

I adopted a cat from them. I wish they had online forms that were partnered with Feline Felons Cafe so people could adopt and pay online without having to drive another 25 minutes to their shelter and then back to Feline Felons to pick up the cat. But I am sure they are doing the best they can with what they have available to them. They were a little disorganized and it took longer than I thought to adopt, but it was all the same day. I absolutely love my new cat! She is the perfect addition!

I adopted 2 dogs. The staff were very friendly and responsive to my questions. I hope others will consider fostering or adopting from CCACC. It was a great experience.

We adopted our first cat from this shelter. Even though it is 20 minutes away from where we live, it has been our go-to shelter because of the great experiences we've had. This year alone, we have adopted two cats and two dogs from the same shelter. The staff sincerely wants the animals to have a good home. I wish the other shelters in Charles County have the same standards, or caring staff. We have a couple of other shelters closer to home, but we've been comfortable going to this one. They update their website regularly, so we keep looking to see if they have new dogs or cats that we find interesting. I also like that they are promptly responsive to emails, communication is very important to us.

PLEASE ADOPT HERE! These animals dont deserve the mistreatment they receive in here. The staff up front pay no mind to these pets. I was informed on last Wednesday or Thursday that the dog we wanted to adopt had been transferred here. Checked in on him on Friday and the staff had no clue who he was. I expressed my want to adopt him and that I'd be back just to hang out with him. They took my name and number down and said they'd call. I called on Saturday to see if he had gone through the "behavioral" tests. The reply was no. Went there today(monday) and we were greeted with yet another "we dont know any dog named bleu". Fast forward, they eventually find his record and went to go talk to someone in the back. She comes back and says he was euthanized. She said "maybe" he failed his behavioral test and some other BS about the pit breed. I asked which part did he fail and she couldn't tell me, just a bunch of maybes. I bet he didn't fail, im willing to bet they didn't even test him because there were no employees there strong enough to handle him. YOU WERE EVEN TOLD BY THE RESCUE HE WASN'T AGGRESSIVE!! Now a sweet dog that almost had a home is dead. Good job.

Great staff who are passionate about animals. Only $150 for a dog versus $300 from a shelter. 4 stars because the adoption process happens within 24 hours which is not always feasible especially during COVID.

My (F) Staffordshire Bull Terrier/Pitbull mix escaped and was picked up by a Good Samaritan. At the shelter “Remy” was chipped ($10 GPS) and Received A Voucher ($50 refundable 1/2) For a Rabies Vaccination and a County Dog License($25). I also purchased a name tag with owner address ($5) ! The Staff made the process pleasant and educational. A Happy Runaway Dog Ending !

I now have two pets from this facility. Both were received in great shape; staff does an excellent job with animal care. They're also very accommodating with pre-adoption medical procedures (spay/neuter).

They steal peoples pets my dog showed up there after being missing for 2 years I had only had the dog in my home for a total of 9 hours before she was stolen out of my yard on a potty break…. My friend sent me her picture that is on the tri county site today 7/26/23 and I call them to get her back mind you I have the bill of sale and the dogs NAPR papers and they told me that was no good enough they are only doing this to me because she is a bully breed and I had her sister put down there last month because of incurable cancer I will be reporting all of this to the Charles county board

We fostered a puppy & were interested in potentially adopting if it seemed like a good fit. But after 5 days with her, we dropped her off for her spay & they told us we had to decide if we were adopting her that day & if we weren’t ready that they would take her back into the shelter & keep her there until someone else adopted. One employee actually said “we don’t really do foster to adopt here, that’s just not a thing.”What is the point of the foster system if they just take pets back immediately and put them back into a kennel at the shelter? It’s not fair to the animals or clients, seemed like all they cared about was getting the adoption fee. And not once, did a single employee at the shelter ask how she was doing at our home. Seems to me they don’t even care about these pets or finding them the perfect home. Adopting them out the day after their spay/neuter was worrisome too, as if they don’t even think about the recovery period after surgery. 100% WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!

First let me miss say that I love to go over and just visit with the animals. Second, everyone that I have encountered over there has always been very nice and helpful. If you are considering getting a pet, please think about adoption.

Very happy with the experience here . Son was able to fill out application and pay for adoption fee on a dog and pick him up less than a week later . This place doesn’t make you jump through a million hoops to get a dog ! Thank you for allowing a condo owner to adopt a shelter dog !

I hesitate posting here because I don’t want to ruin an animal’s chances of getting adopted. However, I advise you to be careful and do an even more thorough evaluation before adopting a pet here. The cat we adopted was already sick before we got it with stomach issues AND very likely brought home a type of insect/bug. I am being told it’s my responsibility and I can just take the cat back. No other help being offered, and it’s very unfortunate because my daughter is now emotionally attached to the cat. Buyer beware. I just got off the phone with Patty and she literally just said that I can’t prove any of this. 3 doctor visits and a cat throwing up daily and this was their response.

This was my first time adopting from here and I couldn’t be happier with my experience. I saw this little guy online and instantly fell in love with his picture. Made an appointment to see him and he was even cuter in person, he gets along so well with our other rescues and is sweet to both of my kids. The staff here was very friendly and helpful, so grateful for our new family member ❤️

We adopted a beautiful giant Schnauzer. She is bowery loving, and gets along well with her new siblings. She lives to cuddle and slept all night with her head on my chest. Mandy as we have named her has found her 4ever home. We love her. Thank you Tri county animal shelter for helping us adopt such a beautiful girl.

It was overall good for my first time adopting a dog to our family, but they need to communicate better, we were only supposed to wait 72 hours to get him but it’s been almost a week. They also didn’t tell us about the other fees they do NOTT cover at the vet which is not good.

I know this place runs on a tight budget. It is an old facility and I don't think the dog areas are air conditioned, so that is tough on the animals in the summer. However, all of the people I have encountered have been very pleasant, and it is usually fairly easy to browse and to adopt. My son adopted a senior German Shepherd from there last year whose adoption fee had been already paid for by a donor. She is doing great and has been a wonderful companion for my adult son. If you are looking to make a donation of supplies or money, I think this place is a very worthwhile organization. They usually have a lot of animals, and I have even seen gorgeous purebreds there.

I had an awesome experience going through my adoption process. The employees were very kind, loving, knowledgeable, and professional. I would recommend anyone who is attempting to adopt a pet this is the location. You will never regret your experience at “Tri County Animal Shelter” it based on with the staff there. Again, thank you for allowing me to be a part of this process. If I could give them more than a five rating I would.

My experience would have been better if it were clear they only accept appointments for adoptions at this time. I viewed the mobile page again after I drove 20 mins to the shelter. Would be helpful if they also included this info on each dog's bio sheet on their website. The woman I spoke with was extremely nice. I just hate I wasted my time. I adopted one of my dogs from Tri-County before and he is awesome.

I am so hurt by the experience I have had with this shelter! We adopted a beautiful cat on Saturday that they said was 2 years old and healthy. I had concerns when we took her home because just walking in to where the cats were held, there was a god awful smell like cages hadn't been cleaned in forever and the animals weren't being taken care of. But we found a cat that just touched our hearts and brought her home. The very next day we started to notice issues with the cat and by Monday I had to take her to the vet because she was acting like she couldn't breathe or eat food. According to the vet, the cat was closer to ten years old instead of two and was suffering from lung and kidney issues and was severely malnourished to the point where she couldn't do a full stretch and some of her internal organs (like her kidneys and stomach) were not showing on the x-ray. If I would have known up front about all of these issues and the dark reality that even if we did take her in for surgery there is chance she wouldn't survive it, I wouldn't have adopted her. That is too much stress to put on a family that was not prepared to adopt a sickly feline. Now I have to break my kids' hearts and tell them that she can't stay with us. Thanks guys.

I was extremely impressed with the level of professionalism shown at my visit. The two people who assisted my wife and I were exceptionally personable and showed sensitivity at the loss of a pet. The person who removed Jack from our truck came out with a blanket and gently wrapped him in it and offered condolences for the loss. She was very sincere and I had to write and complement her and the shelter.
