Title: "Sweet Spot with Room for Improvement"Review: "Dessert First Dockside is a charming coffee and dessert bar offering a variety of hot and cold drinks alongside an appealing sweet menu. We tried the banana chocolate ice cream; while it didn’t quite wow us, it was satisfactory. The ambiance is delightful, but the price point for a small ice cream at $4 seemed a bit steep. It's a lovely place for a dessert stop, especially if you're exploring dockside delights, but there’s potential for the wow factor in their offerings

VISITED FRIDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 29, 2023I had a morning of medical matters to take care of: Lab work and MRI. Fasting was one of my assignments. Therefore, while waiting at the Labcorp in Chestertown, MD (I should review them as well!) I stayed looking for coffee shops in the Stevensville/Kent island area since my MRI was in that area. I googled and found this hidden treasure.I’m a Riseup Coffee ☕️ fan, so this place sold me. The little shop is nestled between Red Eyes Dockside & Harris’s Crab 🦀 house so be sure to follow your GOOGLE MAPS!Upon coming off there is sufficient seating. It was tastefully decorated for the holidays. There were even heat lamps inside. It was a slow time of the morning so I didn’t have any line to wait in. However, the guy that took my order wasn’t didn’t greet me or didn’t seem pleasant. But he wasn’t rude or in a mood.Everything looked 😋 ! I ordered a breakfast sandwich: Sausage Egg 🥚 Cheese Biscuit and a coffee. I included a homemade Strawberry 🍓 Pop Tart. Would’ve also purchased donuts 🍩 but the cinnamon sugar was sold out 🙁. They were for hubby. Tart was for daughter. The wait was minimal. I liked my sandwich but was suspicious of whether it was sausage or scrapple (yuk!). Biscuit was light but quite crumbly. The coffee was good. My daughter ate the tart when I gave it to her at home. She enjoyed it. I tried it too and it was great!OVERALL: I look forward to going back when next in the area! Hopefully when the weather is warmer and can enjoy the water views!

What a nice find on a bike ride down the Cross Island trail. We stopped here for a break after hearing from someone else what a great place this was to get specialty drinks such as coffee and other iced drinks. But the real fun finds were the pastries and ice cream. I had a cone of rocky road ice cream. A great treat for a break during a hot bike ride. So much to choose from. You can sit by the water and enjoy your treat.

Wow, such a find. Dockside coffee and pastries with excellence. Not something I would think to even really look for but a Google search offered it and the reviews helped entice. Rise up (regional roasters) coffee made well; fruit bowl with chantilly … yeah French sweetened whipped cream. Fruit exceptionally fresh and clean. We were around Kent Island for a couple of days and will hope to return. Highly recommend … also likely a nice end of day cocktail spot.

This place is tucked away, right one the water. The atmosphere is inviting and the staff is friendly. Their homemade poptarts are delicious. As was the breakfast sandwich. The muffin was our least favorite. It was a bit dry and borderline stale, if that makes sense. Overall, 8/10. Would definitely come back again.

Stopped by here 3 times during my week on Kent Island. Service is friendly and fast. Coffee tastes great, and pastries are even better. The banana bread pudding was so good. Plenty big for sharing with at least 2 or 3 people.

A great dessert bar by the water with a lot of selection. The coffee bar was also great with lot of options. We have tried the cupcake and another dessert. Both of them are on the sweeter side. They also had a restaurant next door and it was busy. The staff were very friendly and polite. There is outdoor seating and it was a great view.

Great little shop with sweet options the main menu. They were out of breakfast sandwiches and pop tarts. We got a blackberry streusel that was very tasty.

Love, love, LOVE this place!! The customer service is amazing. The employees are always so welcoming and happy to help. They are big into supporting local thanks to a working relationship with other small businesses in the area. Their coffee is some of the best in this area (BIG thanks to Rise Up too for that one!). The views are as relaxing as they come. And the desserts are sooo good (Thank You, Peace of Cake!). My only suggestion is a slightly wider variety of savory foods. Outside of that, Dessert First can’t be beat!

Can’t beat enjoying some yummy treats and coffee/ tea while sitting by the water. The employees don’t really seem like they wanna be there, thoughParking: parking lot is the same lot as for Harris’ crab house

Woah! I’m from northern Virginia so I am used to seeing all sorts of nice coffee and dessert shops but this nice “hidden” gem in Kent Island takes the cake! Only a 50 min drive from Springfield, VA but totally worth the drive. The shop is very quaint with nice atmosphere. Good outdoor seating area with a hidden boardwalk in the back. So the coffee was awesome (Madagascar and Campfire Latte). Very unique! Nutty Buddy ice cream cone was also yummy! Would give the ice cream a 5/5 if it was on a freshly made crunchy cone but the ice cream itself was good. Didn’t get a chance to take a photo because I ate it lol.

Great place to relax and get something sweet and/or caffeinated. We stopped here on our way home from Delaware, and I got one of their coffee smoothies and I gotta be honest, it totally beats blended Starbucks coffee. It’s so so good, and the atmosphere is a nice, chill break from everything. I wish I lived up here because I’d be going every day (for the sake of my wallet, maybe it’s good that I don’t!).

We stayed at a hotel within walking distance and have now been back for our third day in a row. Amazing food and coffee to satisfy your sweet tooth. You will not be disappointed with any of your selections. Great to see the young staff take pride in their job and provide outstanding customer service. We will definitely be back next time we visit Maryland.

What a cute coffee shop! All decorated for the holidays and so much holiday touches on the menu. Coffee was also really good and so was my dessert. So many to choose from! Will be going back again today!

Very cute and quaint spot. The specialty coffees are delicious. I've tried their fall/Halloween specialty drinks, the crisp autumn Chai (hot), and the dracu-latte (iced), and they were both amazing. The mixed berry pie was yummy, but the Apple Almond Raspberry Tart was my favorite! The service could've been better. The girl taking my order wasn't friendly, and when I asked for her favorites or opinions, it was like I was a nuisance. Regardless, I will be back for some more delicious coffee and desserts!

Dessert First lives up to its name with plenty of great desserts and sweets. The staff behind the counter were also friendly. I plan to go back again to have coffee and enjoy more of their selection!

Perfect place to sneak away to grab a delicious dessert. I started coming for the RiseUp Coffee. I’ve found it to be a peaceful waterfront office away from the office. The staff is friendly. The watermen passing by to deliver their daily catch adds to the nice dockside atmosphere.

Skip your traditional coffee house and come to the dock side Dessert First. High end treats with great coffee and tea. Staff is always friendly and the views are great. If your not for being inside, take a walk on the pier and get a view the channel and Kent Narrows Bridge.

Delicious ice cream and pastries with local coffee. Parking is kind of tricky since it shares a lot with another restaurant but it's not too bad. Definitely worth the trip though.
