Very clean lots of parking my complaint is the assistant manager she has a bad attitude not just me but to another customer and to raise her voice to her staff is unbelievable I would love to continue shopping here but I do hope the corporate will speak to her about the way she treats customers and her staff! for now I shop else where...I give the store,its departments and workers except for assistance manager 5 stars because it's one bad apple out of the bunch!

Been living near this Safeway for about 5 years now, shopping here regularly. The store is great with mostly organized shelves that are kept stocked. Self checkout options for those who need it with the option to use both cash and card. Always staff in the front to assist if the self-checkout malfunctions or anything.Only con really is that there’s not always staff on the main floor to help if people have trouble finding something or can’t get an item off the top shelf.Otherwise great store, great staff, good food.

I have been shopping here for years. I love the pharmacists, produce, bakery, meat dept. people. All of them do an amazing job! However, I can’t rave about the young man at the check out today. He never greeted me even after I greeted him, he would hardly make eye contact, didn’t put the bags in my cart, and at the end, I said thank you to him and have a nice day vs him doing that to me. I understand it’s hard to find help these days but if they signed up to work there and represent this chain, then maybe a customer service review, i.e. emphasis on being pleasant and helpful is warranted. After all, the customer is the one who puts money in that young man’s pocket and I don’t want to leave there feeling like he begrudgingly did me a favor.

Racial profiling is at an all time high here. I ran into this Safeway at 10:20 PM on August 2. When I approached self check out, there were customers checking out and the associate was paying them no mind. Yet when I approached self check out, suddenly the associate stepped up and just stood to stare at me throughout my transaction. I inquired about a code for the water, because the shelves inside were empty for the store brand (had not picked one outside because they were mostly loose and busted up). I frequent Safeway and I know that there is a code but yet she told me I would have to Go get one to scan! I let her know I’m not going outside again to get one. I informed her I didn’t because of the shelves being empty inside….so she got finally went out and got one. While she was looking, I searched for the picture and found the code sure enough on the screen. I purchased and paid for my items, and when she approached, I showed her the receipt. Seconds later, on my way out, she asked me again if I had paid for the water…smh! Why would I be leaving, if not paid? Not only did I just show her the receipt once, and let her know I found the pic already, but she was still questioning it and clearly racist. I am a biracial woman, and I feel that this recent experience was racially based. The other customer receipts were not checked. She paid nobody else attention at the self check out. Do better, if you check one receipt, you need to check them all and not just your customers of color! Reporting to corporate. Never in life been asked to see my receipt not once, but twice !

This manager at this location has super ridiculous rude attitude! If you ever need anything I bet it won’t be resolved. Very bad service from the start. Me and my mom need to use western union to send money to other country. No body was there at the counter to help us. When she actually showed up she was not facing me at all and with no greeting I didn’t even know she was the one to help me. My mom didn’t speak English so I had to translate for her but the lady said she need to speak to my mom directly. If she couldn’t get a translator I don’t know how do she expect my mom to speak English. What was she thinking! I feel like I was being discriminated!

I live nearby and shop at this Safeway store (12251 Darnestown rd. Gaithersburg, 20878, MD) every week. And unfortunately, lately, the customer service at the checkout became very bad. As I believe, the store's problem is in the organization of the process. After the introduction of self-service checkouts, the waiting time at a regular checkout increased by 20-30 minutes and this is very annoying. During this time, some products, including ice cream, are defrosted and I bring spoiled products home. A large store should be a quickly organized enterprise, not a place where people stand in one huge queue. Out of 6 cash desks, 1 (!) only works. It is a one cashier works in the hall, the employee has Parkinson's disease, and she does not have time to quickly serve All the store's customers. The remaining 5 cash desks are closed. Customers don't want to use self-checkouts. When you do several purchases are normal, it's not difficult for me and I use it. But sometimes I do shopping for a week for a family and buy a lot of food. In this case, self-service checkouts are a very inconvenient thing. To scan many items on your own, you need to spend a lot of time and effort, and some problem always happens in the process and everything freezes. You have to call an assistant, and servicing yourself is delayed for another 20-30 minutes. Therefore, service at a regular checkout is preferable. I ask Safeway management to take corrective action and open normal cash desks to serve customers. Thank you!

The store manager (the lady at night shift on November 16) had a very aggressive attitude and disrespectful behavior. She didn’t know anything about customer service. I needed to exchange an unopened item which was safeway brand with the same one with same price (different size). However, she didn’t even allow me to explain the issue to her. She denied to exchange it because I didn’t have the receipt. Can you believe that? When I told her that I will eventually exchange it, she said: yes you can but not in this store. That was very rude and disappointing way to treat a faithful customer (since 2011). I believe Safeway should be aware of this and consider if a manager could be a good fit in the position before hiring them.

This particular Safeway is pretty old and in need of remodeling. Through the years, service has also become spotty.Update. I still shop here. Was told in early 2021 that it was going to be remodeled but all I have seen are some new cold or frozen food cases and moving around of product in the shelves. Disappointed in this. They added self checkout stations but also cut back in checkout staff.Update, 2022Very little has changed. As a matter of fact, I feel that the store has spiraled further into neglect. The staff is great but it seems that there are fewer personnel. And usually there are few open checkout lanes. Quality of produce can be great one week and pretty bad the next week. Shelves are usually stocked though there are times when they are rather thin.

Place is always clean and nice the staff are always friendly. There are good prices compared to competitors in the area. The reason I took off a star is because there are no self checkouts sometimes there are only three cashiers and a self checkout section would help the lines get shorter.

This store manager will condone ANYTHING an employee does to a customer. And he lies about camera not working when you can use that as tretment of the customer. He also will not give you the persons name so you can file a formal complaint. And oh yea.. He will call the police on you for trying to get a resolution to the issue

Excellent! This particular shop has everything. Fully stocked with many options and hard to find brands. Because of it's larger size it can stock exotics or something I only found at the Potomac Safeway... ever. It doesn't have spinach or wheat De Cecco pasta but hey... whom is perfect out there? Even Italian specialty stores rarely have such in our areas. I was very impressed. Especially during our covid times... they are doing very well. Service personel were quite helpfull and it was late so I had the store to myself. Totaly worth driving out here from DC to make mass purchases if you can spare the time. Home Depot and Lowe's are rather near so you can knock out multiple house hold needs. I will return!

This Safeway has been here for a long time. It still manages to look clean and organized inside. The staff are friendly and it's not typically too busy. The prices are absolutely ridiculous, bordering on a Wegmans or Whole Foods. Otherwise, it's a nice place to shop.

Special ordered a rib roast from the Darnestown Safeway for Christmas Dinner. Marco in the butcher shop area helped me decide on a cut and correct size roast to order. When I returned to the store on the agreed upon time -- the roast was ready and waiting.Cooked it for Christmas Dinner and it was delicious. Have been using the leftovers for the last three dinners at our house -- still delicious no matter how I have prepared it.I sent a lot of leftovers home with my guests for their later enjoyment -- but I didn't share any of the roast -- it was too good for sharing.And, it was on sale!Thanks so much.

Produce and Floral sections carry an extensive selection slightly more expensive, stick with the SALE prices, they can be a great value. Meat and Seafood sections are very well stocked and can contain items priced as "Managers Specials" which are like getting Gold for the price of Tin. Bakery and Deli are above board unique selection of items from personal care to sodas again SALE prices are your best value, consider joining the Safeway Loyalty program to enhance your benefit's. Needs to be noted that what really shines here is "Customer Service" the friendly & helpful staff and caring knowledgeable management keep me coming back.

good breads and bagelsDeli staff are disgusting. They don't change gloves after doing things like taking out the trash, and then go about other tasks in the deli, but don't change gloves before slicing meat. They touch every slice of meat from the slicer. They slice the meat into their hands. They touch every slice as it comes off the slicer before putting it on the deli plastic.2022: They have self-checkout now. Mgmt is good. Deli still gross. They leave pre-sliced stacks of some meats in the deli case.

Went to pick up a few items Friday night after 10pm. Only 1 cashier and had to wait through 6 people ahead of me. Should have been a back up cashier to help and clear up long wait in line. Where was the night manager??? Self scan checkout long overdue in this antiquated Safeway!!!

This Safeway could use a full renovation! Almost every time I've been in this store I find items expired. The meat is discolored and the bread and vegetables were actually molding on more then one occasion. I'm hoping corporate reads these reviews and one day they turn this store around.

This is the worst Safeway in the area. Management and customer service is terrible. Today, it took 15 minutes for the cashier to ring up 5 items. This did not include the time I waited on line. The store is usually dirty or under repair. The meat/seafood counter stinks of rotten food. On this visit, there was a shopping cart with thawing seafood to be put back in the frozen case sitting in an aisle.

A major improvement in the last several months under new management! I used to DREAD having to stop there and wait in a long line at the only checkout open. I still wish they would put self checkout in, I prefer that. But I haven't had to wait forever like I used to. Bravo!

Not my favorite store to shop but the location is convenient and the staff were friendly. I was able to stock up on essentials with ease. While the competitors prices are lower, they had the items I was seeking - I will return on occasion.

I mainly go to his Safeway because I love thier bakery options, but the two lanes they have open but seemingly always closed quick checkout lane, and then the lack of self-checkout is ridiculous. Ridiculous! Why? Why? This is not 2003. The bolillo bread however...is always on point.
