i am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service I received at a Safeway store. Recently, few weeks ago purchased water bottles without exchanging them, assuming that I could return the empty bottles for a refund of the water deposit. Tonight, when I attempted to return three empty bottles and exchange them for a new just one, I encountered several issues.Firstly, the staff member at the self-checkout was unclear about the store's policy and mistakenly charged me for the bottles I was returning. Despite my attempts to explain the situation, he called for a manager, John, who took a considerable amount of time to arrive. He kept insisting that I get the filled water bottles but I don’t need four as they take up a lot of space in the house.When the manager John arrived, he neither apologetic nor empathetic about the delay. He rushed through the process without fully listening to my explanation and initially misunderstood my request and started charging me when I exact words were, I am returning 3 for a refund on the bottle deposit and buy/exchange only 1. After some back and forth, he informed me that the store does not refund the water deposit, which was surprising as I have received refunds from other grocery stores in the area.Moreover, John's attitude was dismissive, and when I said I’ll just go to my usual spots that actually refund the deposit they kept, he made a comment “I'm sorry you didn't like the response," was condescending and unnecessary as he was walking away. The self-checkout staff member smirking behavior added to the unpleasant experience. As if he was enjoying my misery and didn’t look empathetic at all.I find it inconvenient if the store's policy is not to return customer deposits, especially since this was not communicated to me at the time of purchase. The unprofessional attitude and dismissive comments from the staff were disappointing and really uncalled for as at no point I was aggressive or nasty.Not sure it was because I’m a person of color and customer service folks assume it’s easy to treat them this way and get away with it or they are just unpleasant.I live a mile from the store, and I returned to the store year after as I’ve had an unpleasant experience in the past, but this just validated me never to return again.it happened on 02/16/2024

In theory the store should be great their employees are really nice and the store always looks clean. However, I have purchased some of their pre-made chilled soups and they were bad they were cream-based and the dairy had turned. I have also purchased meat that stunk terribly once I opened the package and had clearly gone bad. They are closer to where I live than Wegmans and a more calm store than Giant but I wouldn't suggest buying anything other than pantry staples here. Also, they usually only have one cashier working so be prepared to stand in a long line.

I come here when I don't feel like going to giant but now I'm only going to Giant. My last visit I brought those small pack of Hawaiian breads which turned out to have mold on the bottom of the bread. I didn't not notice that there was no expiration date on the package (which is required for grocery store to have on all perishable products) until I realized the mold. I go back to return the bread and get my refund. What upset me about the whole situation is the lack of empathy from the customer service associate. I didn't come in with any attitude or anything just simply stated what happened. He just gave me a annoyed look and asked if I wanted to get another one which of course I didn't want. I never got an apology and he just refunded my money without a word. So I'm guessing this is something that always happens here so please make sure to check your food items before you buy from this store and if you do unfortunately come across some moldy food don't expect anything but a refund. I on the other hand will NEVER be returning to this Safeway again.

Very wasteful place. Would make pasteries that would stack very high for aesthetic reason and to make the area looks full, then would throw away over 70% of them two days before expiration dates. They tried to compost but it was ineffective. Most would go in the trash. There are homeless and hungry people out there. The customers are paying for this waste. Do better. Stop overstockin. It is unnecessary and you are whatsLwrong with economy.

Great store. Very clean and quiet. This Safeway stocks all three versions of my favorite milk... Silk's Protein NutMilk 2g sugar, vanilla, and chocolate. And there's a Starbucks inside. I'm supporting local businesses.

Watch ALL expiration dates. So much of what was brought home around the holidays and as recently as this weekend was expired. A lot of it, expired before the date it was bought. My husband refused to be bothered to return the first several items but this adds up fast and shouldn't be happening. From tartar sauce that expired a month prior to the date it was sold to table cream expiring the day after it was bought, life is too hectic to require absolute scrutiny when shopping and the prices are too high for waste.That said, I appreciate the women who've been working there for years and the men in the meat department for both their personability as well as their knowledge when I ask for help. That has certainly improved over the years.Orig Review from 2017: Dark old grocery store with mediocre service, at best. Watch the expiration dates carefully before buying dairy. I'm vision impaired and have never found this store easy to shop in most especially because of the difficulty in receiving assistance when it was needed. I try to make the extra miles to another store that's better lit and offers better assistance with zero attitude when I request it.

Didn't have fruit on sale as advertised. I did self- check out and the service person on duty just watched me and never greated. You would think I was stealing. After less than 12 hours... I was bringing the fruit back because it wasn't on sale and the strawberries were rotten.

I had to come back up here and give a review of this different Safeway. It's not the one that's up the street from me. It's in the opposite direction but they came through for me. I had went to Walmart last minute to get a couple of items. Their shelves were bare on every item I needed. Or the price was too high. So on my way back home I decided to try Safeway and they had everything I needed, at affordable prices too. And bonus gas rewards points!

Love all Safeway stores as they are clean, well stocked and have a variety of options and offerings in nearly all categories. Prices are good and comparable to most other competitors. Typically have a good number of check out lines open and have self serve checkout too so you can get in and out quickly.

This store gets worse year after year. I've been going here since they opened like 20 years ago. Older workers are fine - still friendly and try to help. Younger workers not so much (I know generalization is wrong but...). This morning I was looking for a particular coffee and there was a young AA worker doing something near me. I walked down and asked her if where I can find this particular brand of coffee. She points me to the coffee section (where I came down from) ans says "it should be there." Really Sherlock? Absolutely no help. A min or two later (I was still looking) she passed me (so she knew I was still looking) like I wasn't even there... Good lord. I am being kind with two stars.

Tookie at Customer Service was so patient and helpful in helping me resolve an issue with the Safeway app. My phone number wasn’t linking the coupons to the total and Tookie called the Helpline to fix the issue. She then re-rang up all my groceries and helped me save over $65 in savings. Everyone was so helpful and the store isn’t jammed packed with customers every time we shop there so it’s definitely great.

milk was sour when i got home. the pizzas were moldy. all the food we got that was fresh tasted off. this store is a joke and management is obviously even a bigger joke for letting this happen.

I haven't shopped at this branch of Safeway in more than 10 years. I was pleasantly surprised at the vast improvement since the last time I shopped there.The store was very strategically laid out, it was so easy to find everything I needed without asking a staff member or walk around aimlessly. I loved the store layout.The only negative thing I have to say is, the location is a bit difficult to get to on the bus. You need a car to get there effortlessly. Since my current mode of transportation is public transportation, I will not be going back anytime soon.

The staff were helpful at this Safeway. I don't know if it was because I was from out of town or what, but the store needed some upgrades. It was clean, thank goodness.. the store had what I was looking for and the staff was happy and more than willing to help me look for what I was looking for. They were also helpful and directing me to another store to help me find the rest of my items. I will be going back there for grocery items in the future.

I usually go to Safeway for Seattle's Best coffee, the Natural brand nuts, and the envy apples. The last two times I have stocked up on all of my favorite vegan products. It seems they have more products people use. Keep up the good work.

This is absolutely the best Safeway. Clean and well stocked, but I wanted to give a special thanks to the kids that retrieve and sanitize the carts. They are a great bunch, so sweet and polite!

The manager on duty Josh was not very friendly or helpful. My sister and I were at the store today to get some firewood. The cashier Roberto (who was very helpful) didn't have the price tag in his drawer. So he called over Josh who immediately had an attitude. He brought over the wrong price tag and then had to make the adjustments. I also wanted to buy firewood and he had to go outside to get the correct tag. It was obvious that he didn't want to help us and when he came back to the register after he swiped it he threw it on the counter. He was very unprofessional and needs to rethink his career choice. I will definitely post a review on all of the social media sites letting everyone know about my experience.

Safeway is not our usual grocery store, it is a little bit farther away from us and I feel like most of their prices are a little on the higher end. However they do carry things that we can't find at other stores which keeps us coming back. They are also really good about sorting foods that are specifically allergen-free or gluten-free for people with food allergies like me. We also love their bakery.

Great place to get ready for a feast! Clean and fully stocked. Great staff. Prices are up a bit. Still fully stocked....Shopping in the evening gives you a clean fully stocked store! There is still staff available to help.

I am a Safeway shopper whenever possible. I love their store but, as with most chain stores some are still better than others. This one is the best! I am actually staying in Germantown. Right next to a Safeway and I confess I take the 20 minutes drive to this one once a week. The produce is immaculate! And the staff is the sweetest

Went in there yesterday and the whole store was a mess... stock just thrown haphazardly onto wheeling racks in the aisles, only 1 lane was open other than self checkout and people were backed up into the aisle waiting. I was unable to find multiple items on my list... it's just very disorganized.The cashier was very nice, but this store is a mess.

My husband and I had our Covid and flu shots at Safeway everytime it's available. Despite the long line at the pharmacy, Pharmacist and the pharmacy technician always cordial and accommodating.

People are super friendly and helpful. I've been shopping here for decades and know the layout, so getting to what I need is almost automatic. I'm thrashing this outlet with only three stars for not being Whole Foods or Yes! Market.
