Spent $1,000 on four tall emerald green arbor vitae. Took detailed notes from the owner on exactly how to properly plant them and followed those instructions to the letter. All four died within a week. The smaller trees beside the dead ones in the photo were purchased from Greenspring Nursery and planted ourselves within three days of the ones from Hemphill's, and they are thriving. When I contacted Hemphill's, I was told they don't warrant their plants unless they do the planting (a fact that was not disclosed to me at the time of purchase). Avoid this place and go to Greenspring instead; I've since purchased several other plants from them and all are healthy and doing well.

From our first phone call to speak to Miss Betty (very sweet and knowledgeable lady) to the time Matt and his crew finished, things could not have been more smooth. We don't have many pond landscapers where we live, so it was wonderful that this company would travel such a distance to help us. Matt and his crew were courteous, respectful, creative and informative! They completely rebuilt our pond and waterfall, updated our pump and filter, and gave our pond much needed repairs and a beautiful face lift! We are very lucky to have discovered them through a search on the internet and are thrilled with our new pond!

I highly recommend Hemphill's Pond & Garden Center. They are very professional, affordable and do an amazing job. I had a Koi pond that had turned green because the filter system failed. Their team came out and cleaned the pond until it was crystal clear. Next, they installed an incredible new filtration system and finished it off with a custom build waterfall. My family and I love going out on our deck and watching the waterfall, fish and 5 frogs! I still can't get over how clean and beautiful the pond is now. I had planned on pulling it out and filling in the pond because I didn't think it could be restored. I"m so thankful I found these guys. Finally, the price was incredibly reasonable, especially for the quality of work they provided. Thanks again, you guys are the best!!Chris J

I stopped by Hemphill's to purchase a net for my fish pond and while there my daughter and I were talking to Betty and her son. I started telling them about issues I was having with the pond. They offered to come out and take a look. I was amazed at the service that I received. My pond was drained, cleaned, patched, lava rocks replaced and had a new pump put in. I can't say enough about them and the service that I received. Above all, very reasonably priced. I love this place and all they have to offer. I will definitely return to Hemphill's for all future pond needs. Thanks so much for your wonderful service. My fish are very happy and so am I!

No call, no show to our appointment. When I called the next day to reschedule, the woman who answered the phone (assuming the owner) said "I have a million dollar house. I know about nice things". Completely unprompted, irrelevant and out of the blue. Must be new money, given the fact that anyone with significant finances, clout, or status know not to ever say such a statement. Tasteless, classless and unprofessional. I have no comment about the quality of their work seeing we will be taking our business elsewhere. Good luck to anyone who has the tolerance to work with this company.

Our pond was rebuilt and installed last January. This company did an amazing job with the layout and construction. The issues is having them make it back out to service and clean. I called 4 times last year (I understand Covid) however no call back. I called in January, February, and March. I scheduled and appointment for last week 15-20th. I was home all week long and no show. I called this morning to get an updated schedule for cleaning and fish. Unfortunately Betty was not as friendly as when we spent over $5000 to have the pond installed. It all of a sudden was an issue with time, being busy with her businesses up there, my spouse negotiating prices. I have no idea of the service prices nor have they ever completed one or the chemicals to be shipped I requested. Definitely not the experience it once was. I am sorry you are busy but your customer service today was poor and offensive. If they do not want to service our pond, please tell me so that I can find someone else. And cutting off a discussion and telling me I “do not get it” is not polite. Have a great. day.

I wish I could give this business 10 stars. Mrs. Hemphill was so kind and informative about rebuilding our pond. The team showed up on the hottest day of the year and worked like a finely oiled machine. They rebuilt our waterfall and it is magnificent! Basically rebuilt the entire pond. We are extremely happy with the price and quality of their work. Highly recommend!

We love Hemphill's. We bought our prefabricated pond from them. They talked us through how to install it ourselves and told us to call if we had any questions. We've since then bought several trees, plants, water plants and beautiful hanging baskets. The staff was very helpful in all areas. Can't wait to go back to order our stone for our next project...a patio!!!

Hemphill's Pond & Garden Center is an excellent service provider for anyone with koi pond needs. Today, they provided me with the highest level of customer service which far exceeded my expectations. Mark did a complete clean out of my koi pond, repaired my leak and replaced my dead pump. More importantly, he explained all the details of how my pond operates and took the time to instruct me on everything I need to know to keep my pond clean and my fish healthy. I am new to owning a koi pond and Mark and Betty gave me an honest evaluation of what I needed. They easily could have upsold me on new equipment. They did not. Instead, they quickly repaired my pond problems and I would highly recommend them to anyone needing any pond repair or maintenance. I plan on having them back every year. Thank you Mark and Betty. They did an excellent job, the gentlemen who did the work arrived on time and worked diligently and were very respectful. BTW, our ponds had not been professionally cleaned for several years and they were quite a mess, to say the least. Mrs. Hemphill has always been great to work with. Do not hesitate to contact them.

Fantastic experience. I ordered a cord of wood on Monday and it was delivered on Wednesday. Driver was courteous and asked the location before dumping. The wood was of a high quality and dry. Great prices and I plan to use them again in the future. They deliver within 20 miles of the store for free!

Horrible experience! And that was from the woman on the phone. She kept telling me they don't work for free. Well guess what? No one suggested that you did. Then told me to take my business elsewhere. Ya' think?! Rude, unprofessional, and downright hostile. Removing the entire pond would be preferable to dealing with this company.

I was looking for a good pond contractor to help develop options for renovating my pond that I built in 2006 as my fish and turtles had outgrown the current environment. After great deal of on line researched I narrowed down to four companies that I spoke with and untimely decided on Hemphill. I felt that they were very responsive, price was in line with others, and they provided me three options. I decided on a combination of the three options. They came in and completed the project on schedule, the final outcome at first seemed great. After the install everything went down hill. 6 of my 4 turtles died, prior to there work i had only lost one turtle ten years. It turns out the material they used to bond the rocks kills turtles. When I would contact them for support they were non responsive. I have gone with another company to maintain the pond and equipment. I would not recommend Hemphill because of the quality of work, customer service, and lack of knowledge if you have more than fish in your pond.

When everything goes right it makes for a good story; but when things go wrong and you need a hero, and that makes for a great story. Well, Hemphill's are my heroes!! Having hired another contractor to rehab and make my pond bigger, after 6 weeks, (3 of which my 55 fish were living in totes in 90° weather), my pond wasn't even level, you could see wrinkled liner everywhere, looked like an oval swimming pool, runoff from rain going in pond, nonchalantly destroyed existing landscaping and lawn, it was very apparant they didn't know what they were doing and I let them go. Having gone to Hemphill's for all the materials, and Betty and Matt patiently answering my many, many, questions, I just loved the customer service and care they give their customers. That's when I pleeded with them to come in and save the day. It was going to take an actual miracle for my vision to come to light at this point. Had I hired Hemphill's in the first place, it would of only taken 3 days to do the entire job start to finish! Matt and his team were able to disassemble part of the pond and rebuild having NO liner showing, use rocks to create a more pondlike shape, rebuilt the waterfall, built retaining walls so no runoff, put stepping stones around the pond, and put down topsoil so I could get on my way to rebuilding my lawn. After the nightmare I endured, I am over the moon happy with the end result and what Matt and his team were able to accomplish in only 2 days. Whereas, Hemphill's sells anything you may need, they aren't pushy or over bearing like many places. I have since been back twice already to get more fish, plants, netting, chemical that clears water, and a waterfall light. Their knowledge, work ethic, showmanship, and customer service are like non other. This is a family owned business, and they really do make you feel like part of the family. But for me, they are my heroes!!!!

Hemphills has been cleaning my pond for several years now. It’s no easy task as it has two waterfalls A stream bed and a 1500 gallon Pond At the bottom.This year I had to leave early before they finished the job. Not only did they do an excellent job of cleaning and reinstalling the pumps but they also took the time to put back the monofilament I string across the pond to keep the Blue-heron out. I had expected to have to do that since I hadn’t asked them to replace it.That is above and beyond, that is 120%; great job!

Betty was so wonderful to work with. We ordered firewood & it was delivered on time (early actually) & is good quality wood. I was hesitant to order with them because of the negative reviews but it was a very pleasant experience. We will definitely order wood from them next year!

Don't do business with these people. They are unethical and rude. I am pretty sure the 4 star rating has been doctored. Please read the reviews. I made an mail-order purchase from their web site and they overcharged my credit card. Since they never gave me a receipt (electronic or paper) I didn't even know they overcharged me until I got my credit card bill! When I contacted them they were rude and mocked me in the response, and refused to refund the overage. I then called them and they were even more rude and hung up on me! I had to open up a dispute with the credit card company and go through all that headache. The worst part is that they never sent me a receipt. No email confirmation, no receipt in the box. It seems like they have experience ripping people off. It makes you feel really violated that they could even do this. Buyer beware!

The lady I'm guessing Betty based on other reviews needs to learn how to speak to customers with respect and professionalism. My wife purchased a $38 plant that died shortly after purchase. She was greeted at the door by Betty (the owner) with "What is that?".....followed by..."Your just like your parents....blah blah blah". "We don't guarantee any of our plants". I can accept the no refund for dead plants. I will NOT tolerate rude comments from the owner. Betty, its been nice doing business with you however my money will be well spent elsewhere regardless of the distance I have to drive. Good luck.

Called and arranged for an estimate to install a pond. Rearranged my work schedule to work from home in the AM. Sat here waiting, only to find out from Betty, who I arranged the estimate with, that Matt was not coming. AND when conveyed I had rearranged my schedule with my job to be here for Matt, she said well we could come maybe come later today. I have to go into work, so I said I will just call back, and she said ok and HUNG UP. Not one time did she apologize, nothing, but click in my ear like I didn't matter. I understand schedule emergencies occur, and had there been any regard for the schedule mishap, I would have honestly understand, but there was none. Very disappointed in the way they handled a potential customer.

Apparently anyone that has given these wonderful people a bad review must be impossible to deal with. I have bought thousands of dollars of plants, pumps, fish, food, chemicals and lots of other things and have never had one issue. Prices are very reasonable and have never had a fish or a plant die in 5 years. I have a pump fail after 1 year but lost my receipt and without hesitation they gave me a new receipt for my warranty. When I bought an arbor and brought my trailer, my ratchet strap wasnt long enough so they let me borrow a brand new one without hesitation once again. I will be going there once again tomorrow to buy more koi food. This place is top notch!
