I like the store, pretty clean, most things in stock, and rarely busy. I can usually check out quickly, especially using self checkout. However, CHECK THE EXPIRATION DATES! I frequently come here and find stuff that is at the front of shelves that are already expired. These are items like bacon expiring weeks ago. Today I just went to get milk and I’m glad I checked the date and it said it expired on April 10th, today is May 11th!!! I find this pretty disappointing. I end up going to Wegmans for most of my produce even though I love 1.5 miles from this Safeway simply because of the freshness. It’s a bummer.

Safeway is one of the better grocery stores for price and quality. There's nothing special about it, but it also doesn't have negatives like some other chains. It's always clean and well lit and the staff is usually friendly.

We live 2 blocks from this store and have often driven to the Mt. Airy Food Lion in order to avoid the rude cashiers at this Safeway. I've met the manager, and she's very sweet and professional. But she must really have her hands full with these apathetic employees. Tonight was really no different than any other time we've spent hundreds of dollars there. When the cashier (who was more interested in his phone and his fellow employees) finished, he looked right at me and handed me my receipt. I found myself saying "thank you" to him. His response was a blank look. There was a young lady bagging, I handed her my bag and said, "I think it should all fit in here, I know you can do it!" She didn't see the big smile on my face because she couldn't be bothered to look up at me. After the cashiers handed me my receipt with his blank look, I looked to her to say goodbye, and she turned and looked the other way. So I walked away and stopped my cart before the exit so I could put everything in that one bag. It really wasn't difficult. Every time we shop there, it feels like we're a major interruption in their day. An annoyance that interrupts their phone time and conversations with other employees. This has been our experience here for the past two years. We spend $200 to $300 a week on groceries and do everything we can to avoid this Safeway. Sad really, because Safeway as a company is our favorite store. But not this location. I'm nothing but an interruption in their day.BTW.... the cashiers at Food Lion in Mt. Airy are very nice and very helpful. It can be done!And now here comes the "brush off" response below.

The reason I gave 5 starOne day I left my iPhone on the shopping cart and gone to work. I thought I left my phone at home and called my kids to check for me and they couldn’t find it.I use find my phone on my laptop and it showed me Safeway and I remembered that I left it on the cart.I called customer service and they asked me what type of phone it is and told them they said they have it. Later after work went there and got my phone.I am thankful to the staff who got the phone and kept it at customer service.

Around 4:30 today, Friday, I was shopping at the Safeway Damascus store. Went to the bakery for bread, needed it sliced. NOBODY in the bakery. Called the store while standing at the bakery counter, finally some answered.I asked if they would send someone back to cut the bakery because I'd like the fresh bread I'd like to buy cut.I'm told nobody is working in the bakery and the manager has already left for the day so nobody can help me!!!!!! Really?Seems to be a real problem with corporations having really poor managers.It's time they start looking at management and their responsibility to provide service and training and stop blaming the employees. Clearly, management dropped the proverbial ball!

I’d rather go to the one in Olney, but my wife insists we shop here (Olney is slightly further from us). We love Amy, but the other cashiers can be annoying. They’ll talk to each other about shifts, etc. and complain while we’re paying - not paying attention to us - their customer. I own a small retail business, and when a customer is paying at the register, they’re THE ONLY thing that matters. Also, and I know this isn’t a staff issue, the stock seems inconsistent of the things we buy weekly (we go at the exact same time every week). They guys in the butcher shop are friendly and wave to us, and are very helpful. They’re the strong point of the store - they and Amy.

This is my primary store and I am generally happy with it. The pros: produce quality and variety is good - lots of cut fruit to choose from as well. The beef is much better than competing chains. The deli rotisserie chicken is a reliable staple for quick lunches and weeknight meals. The cons: terrible deli meat (have to drive to Harris Teeter for Boars Head). Recently Safeway dropped a number of brands to make room for their store brands. Not happy about that! Fewer cheese and bread brands are my biggest dislikes. Overall - a good store.

Recently moved to Ijamsville and really enjoy the Damascus Safeway. Everyone is very friendly, the store is super clean. New refrigerator section with doors. Tuesday at lunch was a great time to go. You can save points for gas discounts at the Safeway Fuel down the street. Lots of great ready made meals and the bakery is top notch.

Local supermarket in Damascus. Place is always clean, employees always nice. Prices are good with plenty of selections. I will always shop here rather than Harris Teeter or Giant.

We have been using the pickup service for the last 10 times we've shopped here. And, it has been wonderful. The attendants have been at our car in less than 5 minutes (max) each time. We're consistantly on our way home in less than 7 minutes. Highly recommend!

They have all the mesoamerican-latin-spanish foods that I would need, even a section with dried mexican chilis of all types of varieties. The only thing they lack is the Rio Grande frozen section with the yucca, vegetables, fruits & select food stuffs. But its no big thing they sell all of those fresh or canned anyways.

I enjoyed shopping here. Courtesy and service is on point. I used to work in a produce department and I am pleased to report the produce looks fresh and rightly rotated by FIFO methods. Checking out and bagging were also on point as my prior experiences confirmed appropriate level of service and interaction. The store is clean and well stacked with goods. I previously experimented with the Pork chopped from there which the entire family enjoyed from my cooking. The town itself has great growth potential for both business and people, and this store sits right in the middle of three entry and exit points.

This store is much more pricey than others in area. Seafood is hit or miss. Know what you're looking for. Often doesn't have enough cashiers and self check out long lines. Worth it for the deli fried chicken, however the $5.99 8 piece "cheap chicken" Monday deal you will most likely have to wait as they struggle to keep up. Not here but Mt. Airy location is actually rude to you about it.

James was extremely helpful when I came in searching for a specific gift card. After I asked him if they had any of the ones I was looking for left, not only did he come back and check on us to see if we found it, but he searched other places in the store to see if they had any in stock. Usually people wouldn't take the time to follow up or check in the first place, so I really appreciated the effort that James put in during my visit.

If I wanted to bag my own groceries I’d do self check out. Why is it that if I bring my own bags I have to bag myself vs if I pay for bags they’ll be bagged for me?

I know it may seem silly to review a place for seasonal things... And this is my neighborhood Safeway. But there are two great reasons to shop there.1. They always have some great fresh flowers for all of the seasonal things like Valentine's, and Easter, Mother's day etc. And the prices a re pretty reasonable, especially compared to delivery and flower shop prices.2. My wife has received so many great compliments on the fresh produce she buys at our neighborhood Safeway. I don't know if this area just has really good produce, or if the buyer at this store really knows their stuff. But they really do a good job in that department too.I'm not the person doing the main shopping function for our home, but to these two things I can attest.You will be hard pressed to do better.

There prices seem good although we definitely have to pay better attention to expiration dates because we've bought expired salad and baby food and didn't realize until we got home. Also, there "fresh" snow crab legs smell and taste a lttile off. There prepared and seasoned shrimp smell good, but taste off and gave us an upset stomach multiple times. Overall, the rest of their food is good and the location is convenient so we keep going back. Hopefully they make a few quality improvements.

The pharmacy is excellent the way they treat customers always. Polite always have a smile! It's a clean store well stocked and the cashier's are friendly and helpful. I love my safe way even the mgt is helpful and happy.

Good store newer Safeway and the store is clean, neat and well stocked. I just wish they would have more cashiers at certain times of the day, only 1 or 2 registers are open. Yes they have self checkout but at times the wait is better in the register aisle with the cashier.

I love this store and although there are other grocery stores closer to home I still prefer to go to this one. It's got a great bakery and deli counter & a nice selection of plants and flowers too.

Just received my flu shot & first of 2 shots for shingles vaccine. Pharmacist was very knowledgeable, professional & gentle. I feel am helping my community by keeping myself healthy. Thanks Safeway pharmacy for making it so easy. I had filled out flu shot paperwork online before I went to the store.

Sometimes the specials prices or rebates do not come in the Safeway App whe scanning the QR code. But try asking an employee and usually they will tell you, 'sorry there is a glitch with the App.' I ometimes just take a picture and go to the cashier and get the price, sometimes the cashier won't accept the picture. It is a hit or miss at this location.

Good selection. Ok on the prices compared to weis. Clean and quick checkout. Employees were very helpful and went above and beyond to endure every client was taken care of. Open until midnight. Clean and offers some great deals with the club card if you search for it. Sometimes it has trouble syncing the deals and you don't get your discount.

This is my neighborhood grocery. They generally have an excellent selection of produce, and I especially appreciate the large cheese selection. The pharmacists are carrying and friendly. And I love the cents off gas rewards at the local Safeway gas station!
