This was an absolutely delightful stay in a charming, grand, stately location. Very clean and quiet. The rooms are typical of what you would find in a historical property - ornate walls, high ceilings, large doors and wood floors. Everything worked. This was a business trip and everything I needed was available - a refrigerator with freezer along with a microwave an Keurig where in the dining area or parlor. This isn't a typical Hotel - it's better. Treat yourself to a unique, memorable, and relaxing stay in a place with historical beauty.

My son and I stayed here the night before a bike trip. As others have said, there is not attendant on-site. Our room was nice and clean and comfortable beds. Our bathroom was down the hall and the toilet did not flush well. If booking, I suggest you choose a room that does not front on the main street. The traffic noise is constant until about mid-night. It was nice have the rear garage to store bikes. The location is not as convenient to the C&O as other places.

The place worked out really well for a last minute stay. I was expecting Jack and Jill type bathrooms but it was in fact down the hall from the room. Overall it was a great night stay though our roomies below up were quite loud so we could hear them for one night. They only thing I would suggest is that tissues be added to the bedrooms and possible bathrooms.Walkability: Walking to restaurants wasn’t too bad on warmer days without the cold wind. Everything is pretty close to each other within 10 minute walk from the hotel.

The location was great. The room was just okay. This is an old house redone as an inn. The site says a private bathroom but be aware that it is down a hall and not in your room. The room itself was clean but no closet or rod to hang up clothes, some outlets didn't work, and no sink in room. I had to ask for a waste paper basket.Nearby activities: Very historic area. George Washington's headquarters during the French-Indian war is a tourist attraction in a nice garden setting. The downtown area has nice restaurants. Stop at Charis Winery in the canal area. Very nice.

Worst experience ever. We arrived with our bikes at 7.40pm. We rang the doorbell, but no one opened. Next to it was a sign saying that you can call the following number. We did this 7 times without success. We then left two voice and one text message. No one answered. We were lucky that another guest eventually found us stranded and let us in the house. We looked where a room was free and stayed there. It was very noisy. It felt like cars were driving through the room.

Upon arrival, we discovered that we were short a bed. The assumption was made that my daughter and I would simply share a bed without consulting us, but we were charged for the 2nd floor. Additionally, in a review from a year ago, it was noted that the one bathroom toilet on the 2nd floor didn't flush properly. It still doesn't flush correctly. In fact, it looked as if it were going to overflow. It would be nice if there was toilet paper in the vanities as well as towels as there were not enough to go around. I would suggest a no smoking policy because being forced to endure the oder of pot throughout the house. It's nice that pets were welcomed, but it requires that the pet hair is vacuumed. Left over dog hair was on the front staircase. My daughter's bag was covered with ants after she sat it on the chair in the room. She was swishing and smashing ants to keep them out of her clothing, then put it out of the room. The spa is NOT open and won't be open anytime soon. I have never been to an Inn nor Bed and Breakfast where the management/owners were so noticeably absent. It was not quiet for sleeping as it's right next to 68, and the immediate street was busy all night. We will not be returning.

As other people have noted, my stay was entirely without human interaction. While inappreciated having a shed for the bikes, we were supposed to be prov8ded a key, and were not. My text about the key went unanswered. When i made the reservation, it took several phone calls and an email before I got a return call, but by then I had figured out that I could boom on expedia.I liked my room, but the carpet on the stairway should have been replaced a decade ago, it was gross.

An okay place to stay. Toilet in the bathroom did not flush well, and the bathroom was not in our room, but off of the hallway, making it unclear if we were sharing the bathroom with other rooms and whether those rooms were occupied. Room had some temperature issues; AC seemed to only work in the hallway. The check in/out process was done entirely via text/email, which felt a little weird, as if we were in an Airbnb, but sharing it with other people and no host present. Website advertised that coffee was included, but it's just a Keurig and there were only tea and decaf pods left.

The rooms were clean, large and up to date, but there was never anyone onsite when we were there to greet us or answer questions. No breakfast was provided. They did provide a locked garage out back for bike storage, but this was not a B&B, nor did I see any signs of it being a spa, other than the soap said spa. Very impersonal service, and not what I expected.Location was reasonably convenient to the C&O trail.

The scent of cigarettes hits as you enter and stays with you as you ascend up the inn stairs. Carpets stained with, something. The walls of our room had pockets from what likely is water leakage. Toilet didn’t flush well and the provided plunger was needed. Shower water had a sewage scent to it that either went away or I got used to so decided to shower anyway. The outer door to the inn did not latch/lock properly which made me thankful we had a chain and bolt on our door. The ceiling light did not work so we used the lamp in the room. I was grateful we only booked one night and weighed the pros and cons of leaving and asking for money back or enduring, never returning, and leaving our experience. It’s budget for sure. So… not for me next time.

Enjoyed my stay in Cumberland Inn and Spa. Good location, short walk to downtown or one block to coffee or package store. Building has a lot of charm, good bicycle parking in rear garage. Very good communication with host, will stay here again!

I stayed 2 nights here at the end of my bike trip on the GAP trail. My room was the attic room at the top of 4 flights (room 8), so if you don't want to walk up all those stairs, ask for a different room. The room is kind of small and dark, but Dave brought up a brighter lamp for me. The service was great, and it was close enough to the downtown area to walk and bike around and see the sights. There is a garage to lock your bike in. Very clean and nice looking inn.

Super comfortable and the contactless check-in was flawless. Our room was very nicely appropriated and close to the downtown area. Just know that if you come into Cumberland after 6:00pm on a Sunday all of the restaurants are closed. Fast food is the only thing open. However, our host was able to direct us to Puccini's which is up the road a bit, and very good. Monday morning after a great nights sleep we were able to go downtown and found "Cafe' Mark" and we would HIGHLY recommend it for coffees and breakfast. It was amazing. 😊

Disappointed. We expected a pleasant stay in a historic B&B. What we got was no hospitality (no live person at all), an old room lacking in warmth (just felt cold), a toilet that backed up and an unpleasant odor that permeated the room. The buildings were put together put unfortunately lack architectural and historical accuracy with a hodgepodge of rooms, staircases with stained carpet and poor decorating. It’s a large undertaking to run a B&B this size. I hope they improve and can be successful.

Very cute and cozy, was exactly what I needed to relax. In a great spot in this town, walking distance to a lot of places. When I was there it was super quiet and I’m not sure if there were other guests or not honestly. The room we had, we had our own bathroom, community kitchen and lounge areas

Quaint Inn. Lot of character and in a great area of Cumberland to get to downtown in minutes. However if you’re looking for the conveniences of a normal hotel this is not the place. There is no breakfast, there is no person on site 24/7 there is no clear directives when you arrive on the layout of the inn. There is no business center and our room had no cable working. The room was nice. But the inn needs serious updates and repairs. Also.. there are ALOT of steps if you are on an upper floor. No elevators and dark lit stairways in one side. Few rooms have a in suite bath but majority are shared baths. It was clean .. but needs more attention. If you get a ground level room with in room bath then it may be nicer. If you are accustom to typical hotel accommodations and amenities.. this is NOT the place for you.Joe the innkeeper was very nice but is not on site. This inn could be a showplace but it needs a lot more love and updating. Would i stay there again???? Maybe..

Clean and quiet. We did have a shared bathroom but there was no one in the next room so it was basically ours for the night. The beds were super comfortable and the hotel has a real charming layout. Makes you feel at home. There is a common area with coffee, couches, a tv, puzzles and more. Contactless checkin makes it convenient. Definitely recommend 😊

This facility should not be considered a hotel or motel. It is run like a boarding house. You have to leave your bedroom to through a common area to a bathroom whom we are not sure how many users used the place.Guess work to comply with their no touch checkin policy. Very unsecure. My wife walked into the room and immediately left the key on the bed and drove back home. It was a 3 hour ride that we did not want to have to take.I would only recommend this place to the homeless. Please don't make the mistake like we did and not ask specific questions before making your reservations?

This was an interesting stay. The rooms are quaint and minimal. They included a flat screen TV and few other pieces of furniture. I had a private bathroom, for the price I can't imagine anything else unless you rent a whole floor for a family etc. As soon as I arrived the staff left for the day, there was no phone number to call if needed, I wanted to request a later check out but there was no one to ask. When we left we just locked our room keys in our room and pulled the back door shut. This may be a perfect scenario for some-very private. One other set of guests downstairs. Our room on the street was noisy and bright, neither of us slept well. Also there was hair in the rug and and towels-I have short hair so I know it wasn't mine.Overall it was fine for a first and Cumberland was just a halfway point for us. I would not return.

WOW!! Terrific place to stay. The hostess was very accommodating. She provided a place to store my bike and allowed me to leave my car in her parking lot until I finished my days ride. The Inn is only 2 blocks from the intersection of the GAP and C&O trails so it is easy to find. The accommodations were very pleasant and the hospitality was welcoming.

Perfect place to spend a night while riding the GAP/C&O Trail. Secure bike storage, clean room and bathroom. Beautiful historic building close to the trail. Easily within walking distance of downtown restaurants and bars.

We were surprisingly disappointed by our stay here. We had high expectations based on the reviews. However, the main problem with this place is it is extremely loud. There’s is no sound insulation whatsoever. You can hear every car drive by and if a single person is talking in the inn, it carries. Also, our room did not have the bathroom attached. We had to walk down the hall to use our bathroom. This place weirdly felt like we were staying in a hostel.. but not at a hostel price. The positives were that the bed was very comfortable, it was clean and it is in walking distance to downtown.

On arrival, we pulled up to a cheery looking tan colored brick building. It presented well, a small sign near the front indicated check-in was at the back entrance. In the back was ample parking. Our host was welcoming; even upgrading our room. However, a few things were noticeable pretty quickly that showed some updating and attention need to be paid to this hotel. Hallway carpets and walls were smudgy and not so clean, some areas though nice could use a bit of perking up. The reception check-in area was not tidy. An annoying buzz from the microwave or coffee machine in the commons room continued on from our 3:00 pm arrival until checkout the next morning. As a result we decided to not use the area and stay in our room.We were given a large room with king sized bed. Very nice presentation but a little dark. In our room, toiletries were placed a bit helter-skelter, The fan in the room squeaked, rooms were warm and not cool. Although we were a bit warm, we eventually turned it off the low setting so we could rest. However, the room was too stuffy so we turned the fan back on to high and slept with windows open. A roomy place, once this was done, we were more of less set to relax. Although there were no personnel on site for assistance, someone was available by text or call. Breakfast was limited to tea or coffee. In summary, this place/service could be improved by a few touches here and there, and vigilant maintenance. It will do well for a quick one-nighter.

The Cumberland Inn is a great cycle friendly stay on the GAP. The rooms are really nice and the inn is very close to the trail. Super comfy bed (Joseph Footer Suite)!! Real close to downtown. Secure bicycle storage!! This was a great place for us to start our GAP voyage.

All in all, I find the Cumberland Inn and Spa a convenient and quaint place to stay at a reasonable price. Some reviewers have mentioned the traffic noise, the amount of noise depends on the room. The staff provided a fan for no charge, which I used to block the traffic noise.I have only stayed in one room. Some rooms have connected showers and some have private showers down the hall, and some shared showers with other rooms down the hall. There is one room on the top floor which may be more quiet, but I have not stayed in it overnight. If I recall correctly, there is only one stairway to this top-floor room. The fire-escape to that room looks a little incomplete. I am not a fire inspector, your opinion may vary.

I was Biking the GAP and wanted to stay in the Historic District. I could have picked one of the major chains but after reading about all the history of the area, it was a cool idea to stay in the area. Joe met me at the door and was super helpful... He and Gary even gelled me carry my bags to my room. They have a garage to store my bike... A great idea to ride the train to Frostburg and ride your bike downhill all the way back to town... The room was clean and the bed comfee...The lodging was AWESOME.. THANKS JOE & GARY!!!

I visited the inn after a 50 mile bike ride along the C&O canal. The staff had a cold water for me when I arrived and was able to provide early check-in (so I could clean up). The room was nice and spacious with a B&B feel and the spa service were great after a long bike ride which other riders used. For planning, try to schedule the spa services ahead of time and it is not a B&B so your on your own for breakfast but the Inn is right downtown so it's close to lot's of businesses. I'll be back on my next ride.

Cool inn. Wife and I liked it. Contact less check in was executed to perfection; made our arrival really easy. Private Bathroom is down the hall, it's old school and we had a lot of fun with it.
