I have too many pets (2 cats, 3 dogs) and am so grateful to have found this practice. Dr. Silver and his staff are excellent. I appreciate his expertise and experience. Another huge plus is how responsive the practice is when one of my pets needs attention soon but not necessarily so quickly as to require a trip to the animal hospital for immediate care. Everyone at the practice is competent and a pleasure to interact with.

Dr. Silver is a true expert. We have our dog for 7 years now and he gets bad seasonal allergies and other complications that come with it. Since we moved to MD/ DC area and discovered Dr. Silver 2,5 years ago and followed his recommendations our dog is doing much butter. We also had a little surgery done on his year and everything went great. We love this office and the whole team is nice professional and caring.

I moved to DC 13 months ago and have tried 2 other vets for my 13 yo overweight kitty before going here. I took my cat to Dr. Silver 2 weeks ago and I can confidently say he is the best of the best! He does not try to sell you on things you do not need and really puts all the animals first. Amy at the front desk also is more than happy to answer any questions and give her honest input. Definitely will continue bringing my cat here!!

We brought our greyhound here as a new patient and to get tested for hookworms. As any greyhound owner should know, this breed has many distinctive traits and issues that other dogs don't share. We're not ones to "man-splain" a doctor's job to him but we did not get the impression that Dr. Silver was familiar with greyhounds and did not seem interested in filling that gap in knowledge. Besides that, the doctor and the office staff were friendly and nice enough and I'm sure they are fine for other dogs but I would not recommend this vet for greyhounds in particular.

He is never pushy to sell you something you don't need, he takes all the time you need as he explains the situation, and just has a ton of experience. Amy, his wife and office manager, is also very easy to talk to, and she also takes her time helping sort out meds, answering questions, and spending time to help. I really feel very fortunate to have found them and completely trust them.

I feel blessed that my beloved 9-year-old lab finally received the medical treatment he needed so badly. We had been to another vet previously, and my dog was not getting better. In fact, his health was deteriorating, not getting better. I had to do something fast. Some folks on the Chevy Chase Community Listserv recommended Dr. Silver at the Chevy Chase Veterinary Clinic, and I immediately called them to make an appointment.It was the best move I ever could have made. Dr. Silver is a seasoned veterinarian and immediately recognized the medical problems of my dog. He proceeded to explain every single detail to me. I benefited greatly from this office visit. As an example, nobody ever showed me how to insert the ear drop medicine in my dog's ears, how to do it effectively and correctly so that the medicine will work. This bit of information right here was worth its weight in gold to me and my dog.His staff and technicians were amiable, kind, and informative as well. They used a microscope to find out what kind of infection my dog was suffering from. I highly recommend Dr. Ira Silver and the Chevy Chase Veterinary Clinic. We still have other medical issues to address in my aged lab, but for the first time in a long time, I have hope and confidence that we are in safe hands with this august veterinarian, Dr. Ira Silver, and the Chevy Chase Veterinary Clinic.

Dr. Silver and his team are amazing! They accommodated a last-minute Saturday appointment though we were not patients. Our dog was having acute diarrhea and lethargy. We were very concerned. His symptoms had been progressing for nearly 7-days. Our regular vet in Cleveland Park didn’t have an opening for nearly two weeks. We visited Friendship Animal Hospital on Monday when he began vomiting, and we were told to return if his symptoms didn’t improve. When we called to go back, Friendship couldn’t see us—they did say we could pay an emergency exam fee and be worked into the schedule. I found Dr. Silver’s office online, and we were so thankful he was able to work us in. We immediately noticed a different kind of care. Everyone took the time to evaluate Buster (our dog). They didn’t suggest excessive treatment. They took time to explain and make suggestions—on a busy Saturday during COVID-19. This office feels like the sort of family practice I experienced growing up in West Virginia. We immediately felt we could trust Dr. Silver, Amy, Kevin, and Jennifer, and we could sense a high level of experience. In fact, we decided to switch veterinarians and become clients of the office. We made an appointment for a well-visit for our cat in two weeks. We are so incredibly thankful to have stumbled upon this very caring practice and highly recommended you do the same!

Dr. Silver is a to-the-point, no-nonsense kind of guy. I can see where some might mistake this for a lack of caring but nothing could be further from the truth! He is knowledgeable, thorough, and cares deeply about the animals. His office staff has always been kind and gone above and beyond to fit us in when either of our dogs have needed to be seen ASAP. Even getting a routine appts scheduled for shots and checkups is smooth as can be. Their prices are extremely reasonable and they never seem to over-treat for things. (Again, Dr Silver’s practical, no nonsense approach) Their office is out of Dr Silvers home and so it has an old fashioned, neighborhood feel to the practice. It’s not one of those new, shiny, fancy vet offices but the animals don’t care. It’s clean and convenient and the pets are perfectly taken care of! Love Dr. Silver!!!!!

Dr. Silver can be a little abrupt at times--although he is always willing to answer all of my questions and makes what I consider excellent decisions. He also offers options when they are needed. He remembers my cat's history. Bottom line, Dr. Silver gives good care to my cats, and that is what I care about. Plus his wife, Amy, the office manager, and his receptionist, Shannon, make the place feel like home and they know me every time I call. Amy was particularly helpful when I was deciding when to put down my beloved cat, Babe. Not yet, she said--and she was right.

Amy responded personally to me when I posted on a neighborhood listserv asking for recommendations; she answered all my questions and I knew this would be the group for us. When we lived in the neighborhood, our furry friend would lead me straight to the front door of the clinic almost every morning. We no longer live so close, but continue to use CC Veterinary Clinic. They are warm, friendly, take appointments, are on time and are great about not pushing unnecessary procedures or vaccines. Dr. Silver, Amy, Kevin and Chloe make a fabulous team.

I have trusted several of our pets over the years to Dr. Silver and his team which is the highest compliment I can pay any veterinary service. He recently diagnosed our dog with diabetes and has been very careful to educate us about how to treat the condition. If you come in with specific concern or for a routine check-up, Dr. Silver demonstrates a consistent and earnest commitment to give information to allow pet parents to make informed decisions about their pets care. If a specialist is needed, Dr. Silver will give referrals (such as MRI providers or surgeons with other specialties besides his own general surgical skills). I highly recommend Chevy Chase Veterinary Clinic.

They were quick to get me in for an evaluation for a limp my dog developed, however, could not give me a diagnosis or even explain possibly why he is limping… did not take the time to watch my dog walk or evaluate him properly, and could not give me any advice other than “watch it”. We've been going to Dr. Silver for more than 5 years, following a recommendation on our listserv after we adopted a dog. Each and every visit - even the emergency ones - have been professional, with little or no waiting time, and with Bella's care the primary focus. Even pre-COVID, Dr. Silver's office would answer a full range of questions over the phone. Also, the staff has always been kind to us and gentle with Bella. I like, too, that there is usually a groomer in the office, making it convenient to have both check-up and grooming done in one place. Highly recommend.

The Silvers are very interested in YOUR pet. They give personalized advice and care to each pet. They offer suggestions and are very honest about what shots and meds, etc that are appropriate and necessary for your cat or dog. Their office hours are excellent for those of us with regular jobs who need to bring pets in after work or on the weekends.
