I've done grocery shopping here for years, but I guess this morning was the last time. I was with my 2 year old, and apparently we just took too long at check out for the man behind the counter to stay respectful.... My daughter asked to be taken out of the cart, so I did that while he was checking out the last items (also to avoid her starting to scream and bother other people that way). It really wasn't a long wait for him, 10 seconds or something, but I didn't make it back right when he had checked the last item. I was already heading over to the card reader when he, while exchanging looks with the one person behind me waiting to check groceries, said "All you need to do is press confirm here". As if I was just scrolling on my phone or something, instead of caring for a 2 year old for a few extra seconds in a nearly empty store. Then he rang the cashier bell and said to the people behind me with a wink "just checking if it works". Got it, you're too busy man, only nice fast childfree people for you. I'll spare you our business going forward.

Apple fritters. Yes. Apple fritters. The apple fritters here are amazing and taste just as awesome. I love apple fritters. I had one this morning. I popped it into the microwave, and it came out nice, gooey, warm and tender. It was sugary and sweet. I love apple fritters. It's cool. Apple fritters. Apple fritters. Apple fritters. Yummy, tasty apple fritters.

I rarely shop at this store and when I do it’s for a croissant. That the only thing that appears to be fresh. I went to buy one today and noticed the price had gone up. When i asked if that was the case, the cashier was so unbelievably confrontational and rude that I thought I am being dragged into a verbal argument or even worse a physical fight over a croissant! . I walked out to avoid just that and left everything there.

I love having it near because I can pick up things as needed. Their pricing is high and I can't imagine doing a big shop there. Clean with workers who do try to help.

Love shopping at this small market! They have a lot of high quality products that are organic and natural! If you're into healthier for you products, I would highly recommend you shop here! Specifically, I love buying Susosu Water! It's super high quality premium hydrogen mineral water that tastes amazing and has a lot of health benefits! Check it out!

The co-op has been here since my family moved into Cabin John in the early 90s, and probably before then. It’s the OG Whole Foods and I love going here. To be honest I typically go to Whole Foods if I can because it’s cheaper (something nobody ever says about Whole Foods) but the co-op is more convenient and maintains its small-town charm. You can even try some local products that the big boys lack. If you’re close to the co-op you won’t be disappointed.

I feel so lucky to live near this co-op. I can find just about everything I need, including fresh, local produce, organic baguettes, sourdough and boule from excellent local bakers, a great selection of wine and beer (including a lot of local beer options), and even cute gifts and wrap. The staff is always helpful and friendly. I'm there several times a week.

It's convenient for me. The staff is friendly and helpful. I've noticed that they rotate sales on items in the store (when I opt for items on sale, I can get out at a very reasonable price). The quality of the produce is exceptional. I don't mind paying more for it. All in all, it's not my regular place. But it's great to be able to walk over to grab some odd items.Their co-op membership, however, makes no sense to me. It's one 10% off coupon for each quarter, at a $50/year membership fee. Which really isn't a fantastic deal. It's not appealing to join on those lines. The guy at the register gave me a knowing smirk as I did the math in my head and told him I think I'd pass (so even the staff sees it). I think a manager was behind him though, so he continued to sell it by saying that people will come in and use it to stock up on wine. ...That's a lot of wine... We're talking over $150 in alcohol each quarter to see a benefit in the membership. So I guess if you regularly host large groups of people, or more likely just a DC lush, this would be appealing.

Great little gem in the neighborhood. Nice and helpful staff. Good food at good price. This store has been in Cabin John since the 80s, but before it was on Bethesda Ave since 1971. My dad joined in 1979 and just retired in June. Robert Ashton. I worked there as a kid and before I went to college and when I came back on vacation breaks. The environment is so positive and upbeat. They are changing but will never forget their roots!P.S. being walking distance to the Potomac River. There's a toepath. You can have lunch at the Coop after a nice run by the river.

I had an horrible experience with Chris at the store in the evening of December 4th. I had bought expensive wines and the three bottles were put into a single bag along with my eggs and other items. The paper bag handles broke and my bottles had broken outside of the slinging doors on the floor. Chris told me it was my fault because I didn’t put my hands under the bag and that I should have known and that I shouldn’t expect anything from the store. After years of supporting this local business, I will make sure never to go back and have to deal with this type of horrible business attitude.

I too had a VERY BAD experience with Chris. I have spent many years supporting this neighborhood health food store. He followed me around the store making a big deal about straightening afew boxes of lettuces that I had put back incorrectly, having a hissy fit right there in the fresh fruit & veggie cases. I was agassed. I purchased $300 worth of groceries & he would not allow me to return a bottle of pineapple juice that had cracked open because he packed the bag too heavy. I picked up a dark box cranberries instead of raisins because the bins are too hard to read, he wouldn’t let me exchange them for raisins either. Mind boggling for sure his answer to me : “Nope that’s on you.” I was shocked.

There was a new cashier and the receipt paper malfunctioned. Chris came to help fix it and just shoved a skewed printout of my receipt on my hand. I asked the cashier for a new one. I mean, Chris has always been a quiet person, but lately he’s been rude a lot.

Probably the last of the old school healthfood co-ops. Well stocked diverse selection of food and products with a friendly helpful staff. They even sell a wide variety of quality wine and beer. The location is a tucked away a bit. They have wine and beer tastings from time to time. They also sell non-thc cannabis products as well. I don't live close but stop by when I need things that a WholeFoods doesn't sell.

I worked at the co-op fulltime back in the 90's for about 5 or 6 years. It was the best group of people I have ever worked with. Great vibe and great food that you just can't get anywhere. Enjoy your retirement Robert!!

I've been going to the Co-Op for more than 25 years. Man, this place could have been Whole Foods as it was ahead of the curve on hippie-dom, organic locally grown food. If you can't drive out to the supermarket or go to Whole Foods this place has it albeit at a marked up price. Great place to go to get reasonably priced wine. The premade foods (e.g., dolmas) in the aisle all the way to the right facing the store are pretty good.

The manager KNOWINGLY charges more at the register than what is posted on the labels. I brought it to his attention and rather than apologizing he said “prices go up, I dont fix the labels, it’s whatever the register charges”

You could go to any other grocery store and add 20 to 25 percent to every price and it would still be cheaper than this place. I'll never understand how places like this stay open.
