Honestly, this was the best place in 20 miles to get groceries, for a long time. Almost 5 years. But the last year or two, the staff have become unapproachable, the options have become abysmal, and the cleanliness is atrocious. The bathrooms are a petri dish... They have the most disgusting men's room I have ever seen anywhere in the DC/MD/VA area. The absolute worst, most run down, disgusting, unsanitary, filthy pit, ever.Good luck finding fresh bagels, or bread. They don't have it. Everything is stale. Want a fresh Italian loaf? Doesn't exist.In 5 visits I've found more than 30 packages of expired meat.The displays at the front of the store for salsa, cheese dip etc... unmarked. No prices listed. And those doors are locked, for some reason? No sign, just locked. So you walk up like a moron, after parking near the doors, expecting to bring a large load of groceries with SOME manner of convenience, but nope. Locked doors, forcing you to practically triple the distance you have to walk/roll to get what you need. It also makes the handicap spaces in the parking lot entirely pointless / useless.It's working hours! Open the doors!The floors are always disgusting. The leafy produce is always ragged.The staff are rarely courteous or approachable.Even the guy working the Starbucks counter was completely unprofessional.I understand now why so many businesses are trying to deploy self checkout... when cashiers have the attitudes these employees have, it's hard to keep the rep of your location up.But I still, will never promote the voluntary obsolescence that self checkout forces on customers. We don't get a discount for being our own cashier. Why aren't we?Man.... Safeway has lost me. What a tragic turn.This is the second location I have ran into these issues with. The other location in Waldorf is no better.

Shop here often. Just wanted to say that I do not like having to check myself out or dragging bags from home. Easy to forget when you are used to having service provided. Looks like the grocery stores have all raised prices and are trying hard to make the customer become their own service provider. I am 75 years old now and never would have guessed what the shopping experience would become. Sorry not a fan .

This Safeway is a disgrace. It’s almost insulting the type of produce put out. You don’t see this level of a poorly managed store in other neighborhoods. I had higher expectations when I first moved here to the Brandywine community. When I first got here I hoped that it was just a one time thing with the rotten produce but it’s an ongoing issue. I hope that at the corporate level these bad reviews are seen and not overlooked. I’d rather drive to other stores further up north where things are much better. I wish I could give this store 0 stars. I really do.

When I first moved to Brandywine in 2018 this store was great. It continues to decline. Last night I was here and noticed mold spores on the bottom plastic in the entire refrigerator where the dairy products are. There is also filth under the eggs and the juices and milk refrigerator. I reported it to the front desk and the staff told me “we will take pictures and let the manager know”.I know the person working to restock the refrigerators has to see it. The fact that they continue to add new food to a molded/filthy refrigerator is gross.

The hours posted online and when they actually open and close do not match up. They never have salad greens and the produce is often well past its prime. The deli meat goes grey quickly. There are never hand baskets available near the doors and the shopping carts are rarely brought back inside. I will say that there is pretty good variety of dry and frozen products. Overall, it’s way too expensive for the quality you get but it’s one of the only grocery stores in Brandywine. Your money will go farther at Aldi.

The hand carry baskets are hard to find. Either you want people to shop and buy a lot or just what they can carry in their hands if they don't want a full cart? That is my biggest complaint next to always finding expired food like salad dressings in the produce dept and expired food throughout the store. There seems to be no quality control?

Shopping carts we use for groceries are being used for trash transport. No, this wasn’t a special cart. A cart pulled from the customer uses. I can only imagine how many of the carts are used for trash transport and not cleaned.

Delivery Service...You pay for this service! and your delivery comes and you get OUT DATED perishable items and smashed rolls( because when you put rolls in with fruits and vegetables).TWICE IN THE SAME MONTH.Customer service answer is sorry it will not happen again.

This is one of the worst Safeway stores ever. The employees are very uneducated and rude especially the employees that work the front desk. The customer service desk is the most worst, they have these young unprofessional guys that work there. There are two of them that are really rude and bad , the young white guy with long hair in his mid twenties and and short black guy with an Afro. They both should be fired for how they treat customers, shame on them all I will be calling corporate about this matter.

This location has went downhill like the SW DC store. Horrendous. The produce and seafood areas are always lacking with empty displays or expired food. The store often has one cashier - Ms. Kay or another young lady with everyone being forced to use self check out. The deli counter is always understaffed .... I've lived here 20 years and watched the decline. Yesterday was my last time patronizing.... went for healthy food choices and left without because the veggies were rotting in the bags on the shelves..... onions rotting, bag salads etc... rotting yet the older guy was walking around like he was working. DO BETTER.

This Safeway has to be one of the worst managed stores in the area. Resdy made sandwiches are never there yet there is a section for it. The very few sandwiches they leave there look old and the bacon on some is a color I've NEVER seen. The worst and most disgusting thing is their restrooms. Floors ALWAYS sticky and smells of strong urine. Employee use these restrooms as well which is scary to think about. I guess they don't have anyone clean around the store or restrooms. I would expect more in an area where the average home is $400K and up.

The store is so beautiful and in a great location. The shelves were all very neatly and appropriately stocked. The staff was friendly and efficient. They have shopping carts with little cars attached that seat 2 small children. However, the bathroom was so dirty and stinky that my toddlers refused to use it. I really wanted to give this location 5 stars but my boys talked about how horrible the bathroom was all the way home.

I love the employees in this store. They're friendly and helpful. I visited this store various times and they keep it pretty clean even though they don't appear to have enough employees for this large store. The cashiers are polite and try to get customers taken care of in a timely manner. I certainly can't fault the cashiers if the store only opens 2 lines. They simply do the best they can and I appreciate that! The reason for the 4 stars is that the stock runs out too soon and isn't re stocked quick enough. Thanks!

It appears to be clean, and well stocked most of the time. There has always been a delay in getting help at the Seafood counter when I've been in the store. Not sure if there is a better time to come, when a staff member is actually already working behind the Seafood counter at the time that I'm in the store, because I always have to wait for one or ask if anyone is available to help me.

The store was ok. Strong fish odor towards the front of the store but didn't look dirty. I was in the store about 10:15pm. Ran in to get a fruit bowl for tomorrow. Lots of others were shopping but only two registers were open. There were self serve registers but they were being shut down. Our cashier was very pleasant but had they been open, we would have gotten out a lot quicker. Other than that, it was fine.

the store hours on recording and listed online for this location are 5am-midnight, but I went to the store at 11pm last night and the store was closed, the hours posted on the door are 6am - 11pm, I called and spoke with a customer service rep and she confirmed the hours are actually 6am-11pm daily

I had my groceries delivered today and this is my 5th or 6th time receiving rotten fruit. If your store associates are shopping for the groceries why would they send this. This is poor customer service and I am tired of it. You all owe your customers better service than this. I will be reporting this to your cooperate head quarters. Very Very unacceptable!

Visited this store for first time today. Store appeared clean but — like most stores these days —stock of some items was limited. No carts stacked were inside for customers to grab. All lanes of frozen section were closed! What is up with that?? From reading previous reviews I see this is an ongoing problem over the years —why has it not been corrected??

I was very unhappy with the customer service at this location. The credit card machine was not working correctly and one of the branch Supervisors eluded to the fact that the problem is not with the machine but with my card. She advised that I use a different card. I suggested I try another machine. When I proceeded to go to another register I saw that the next customer was having difficulty with the same machine. My card worked at the other register. I felt the customer service could have been handled a lot better. Instead of assuming that the issue was with my card she should have looked more into the error messages that were popping up on the machine. She would have realized that the system was probably off line. Good customer service goes a long way. It makes a big difference in frustrating situations like that.

Visited On A Sunday Evening. Needed Items From The Produce Department. All The Produce Was Picked Over and The Shelves Were Bare. Very Long Lines, Only 2 Cashiers Working. So I Opted For Self Checkout. For The Area, I Would Think It Would Have Been A Better Shopping Experience But It Wasn't!

It's a clean store that's relatively well organized. The baked goods and cooked items are especially good. The pricess are massively over expectations if your not a safway member. I would recommend price checking constantly if anything seems higher than your used to.

I had a negative experience for the first time in the bakery this morning. I go weekly and have not had any bad experiences. When I called the manager, he listened to my concern, made no excuses, and absolutely took care of my concern.

There is a digital coupon necessary to purchase cherries @$1.99 per lb. Wi-fi was very poor inside the store & I was unable to capture the digital coupon, customer service could only offer an apology. I spoke to the manager who stated the cashier could assist with price adjustment, which was done by the customer service rep who initially only offered an apology. Very good resolution from management. I was delighted.

Visited store at 9pm; clean quiet, no lines great cashiers. The ONLY issue I had is when I passed the deli section and noticed the salad bar still had food out and was covered with napkins. So they didnt remove items and refrigerate them they just nicely covered them. And yes the pasta was slightly covered and that's what caught my eye. Pray no one got/gets sick.
